As a European, where wine is so common, that is very interesting. I'm so used to everyone having at least tasted it. I mean this in the most positive way, not being Eurocentric, it's just something that made me think, which doesn't happen often in the YT comments.

Natural cork can’t be harvested sustainably for the amount of wine we make these days. Gotta make them out of something else. I don’t agree with using anything non-biodegradable, though.

They use regular natural cork for thousands of years and the vine was good. So the reason for using this …is BS!
Cork plus glass bottles are less than 300 years old.
Cork is getting expensive. It's a natural product and not an infinite supply, as it the bark from a specific tree. Synthetic corks are much cheaper, although extremely bad for the environment.

They use the synthetic cork over real cork because it is better than real cork. If you want a wine with a plastic cap then just go buy the crappy MD 20/20 wines. Shalom

Gross and unnecessary
It's necessary because corks actually hard to produce because it came from a rare species of tree bark.

Are we forgetting that natural corks are prone to becoming contaminated and turning the wine rancid?
Also there was another master winemaker in interview saying that they use this specific type of cork because it provides sustainable and exact repeatable results so they can flavor their wines accordingly, Because it is a business and they need Exact results.
they can also order them in specific sizes if need to.
And remember the economies of scale this is most effective when applied to cheap mass produced wine that you're going to drink a single time of course any true collector is not going to use a foam or bottle cap for their wine that they planned to keep for 60 years...
And don't get me started on how Box wine is lighter cheaper and can stay fresh longer and easier to ship, Making for more savings and ultimately a better wine.
