I highly doubt that, if you don't wash them eggs, they'll be diseased. Them birds have been around and breeding longer than any of us and they've obviously gotten the hang of it.
just like they say the incubation is slightly improved when taking the eggs instead of letting the birds nest, it's probably a marginal improvement in productivity but still justifies the added expense of adding an extra step. business wouldn't do it if it wasn't helping the bottom line
