I never Red-a-Kai I didn't hate.
A quickie to help fill the time, this is the hardcover investor pitch bible for the Marathon/Spin Master show "Redakai".
The show was...not very good, and some of the rot is clear to see in this book.
The little French-Canadian anime that couldn't.
It just occurred to me after all these years that "Redakai" sounds like "red" and the Japanese word "akai" (red, as an adjective) thrown together... Redred.
There's a hill that, if you translate its name through the different languages it's amalgamated from, is named "Hill Hill Hill Hill."
And the game's main color scheme is gold and black. Hm.

Edit: okay! According to Wikipedia this is true! It's called Torpenhow Hill, in Cumbria, England.

"If you give a character flaws then they might act unheroically" well ky didn't get any flaws and he's unheroic as frick
It's doubly annoying about Ky because 'too talented,' if handled correctly, can lead to some really good character or interactions, like trying to coast by on all talent and little practice and having that not work, or needing a few ego prickings to ground him in reality, or having him meet a younger character with even more raw talent than him and being required to come to terms with that. There's things you can do with a character being too talented, but it's gotta have other stuff to back it up and make it interesting!

Just a tip for any up and coming authors/entertainment creators: NEVER create flawless characters. They make for a very boring viewing experience since they don't grow and instead remain static. RWBY is a prime example of this, and how after Season 3 most of the main cast has yet to grow into something more; aside from Weiss who's thrown away her racist mindset. In fact, they've devolved into being morons at times when they shouldn't be. I'm not saying they have to be a jerk all the way through, but give them something that'll allow them to grow during the story.

On the other hand, there is effective ways to have a character not grow and still be interesting. You are right that if they are not going to grow they need flaws that are interesting.
Or be Uncle Iroh from Avatar.
That shit's usually pushed by focus groups and clueless execs who just want the next Mickey Mouse and don't give a damn about whatever you wanted your story to be.
Not that there aren't bad writers who do write such boring characters, but still.
Static characters are fine, it's just flawless ones that are not, Goku is a good static character.
I just realized how Redakai is just a crappy shonen card game version of the Persona games.
You know a persona trading card game sounds kinda awesome with all the arcana theme going on hell we already have a card back

Well, i'll give the pitch bible one thing: it "sold" the show to me, a person who has never seen it. If i start getting deja vu and doubting my own claim that i have never seen the show, then it has put an implied vision of said show in my head, and i can say that i am not disappointed that i never saw it with your commentary to help color the perspective.
Historian here, your assesment of Indiana Jones is mistaken, he isn't interested in preserving the sites he plunders at all, and as you mentioned in his words "it belongs in a museum" shows how little regard Indy actually had for the archeological work and was solely focused on the artifacts.
A proper archeologist would have been much more interested in preserving the intricate boulder trap mechanism than in taking the golden artifact that it was protecting.
In a Museum as opposed to destroyed, put in a private collection, or winding up in the hands of a foul regime.
I'm just wondering how and where did you come into possession of this? By where, I mean the type of store you picked this up at.
Hey random Redakai question. I just got back from watching a Redakai clip that was in the recommended videos, and one thing that stood out to me was that when the characters talk about the attacks they use, they say things like "star smash attack" and "freeze ray attack" instead of simply "star smash" and "freeze ray." Do you know if there's any reason they end their attack names with "attack?" Was it some weird legal issue because the attack names were so generic? Because Chaotic has attack names that are about as generic as these but few if any end with "attack."
They used attack cards in the game, right? Probably using that term so the kids recall that when they look at target shelves

Immediately made me chuckle as the implication is that the big, bad corporate investors are too lazy/inept to read and need the pages to be 80% drawings or photos, like a goddam 4 year old.
I think it's a lot less about intelligence and a lot more about how much easier it is to write good text than it is to make striking and impactful visuals. If you were an investor for television you'd probably rather give money to a project that looks like a comic book instead of one that looks like a novel. That's the nature of the beast with animated show development.

Just recently changed this channel's name bc I felt like doing so but it's awesome to hear you talk about Redakai once again! I was quite young when it came out but I loved it so much.
I'm excited to hear you talk about the Kairu Cube. If I remember correctly it was because of me that the commercial for it was saved because I made a review on it lol. Also this video was an absolute treat since I always love seeing behind the scenes stuff.

Redakai was short lived, not perfect but I miss it 😞
It certainly did some visually and mechanically interesting stuff. Unfortunately putting it in to practice showed the glaring flaws with what it was going for.

That is a really cool item, as a kid i liked this show but as of now i don't remember much just a couple scenes and stuff here and there.
Didn't princess diara acted like a snob in the show? Looking at this bible i find team imperiaz has such an amazing designs and now I'm interested in finding more about (i know it'll probably be disappointing but I'll judt make stuff up in my head to like them)
Didn't the main characters meditate you would think they would do like yin yang kind of approach to the characters.
This show the designs stuck with me i found them unique that's why i even remember it and the setting/backgrounds of the show i enjoyed but it's sad to hear this show fails at being good the heros aren't great and i believe it from what i remember.
I only have 2 cards princess diara and energy whip lash but i never bought any of the stuff as a kid, got these 2 cards like 2017 kind of free online
I don't agree with many of the things you said about the pitch bible from a production stand point. Imho you always need more partners and people to invest money or people to actually implement your ideas/to whom you give the money from investors, so even if you have something in production already you might need then to cover everything else (i.e., you have the cartoon, you need now the toys/card games, etc.)
