For an increased sense of tension you can imagine waching this in real time not knowing if or when a failed roll of the die leads to the team or in this case Percy`s sister dying, it was quite exhilerating.
And this is why he's nicknamed "No Mercy Percy".
NEVER shoot someone holding a knife to someones throat. 9 times out of 10 you just killed that person, clean aim or not
Short of a T box hit yes. You better be a damn good marksman to pull it off though. Best to wait for a clean shot.

Percy was more immediately concerned with his sister bleeding to death, than shooting Anders.
Especially her being the sister he believed to be dead for years and only just learned an hour ago was still alive, only to witness her getting her throat slit in front of him. He's justifiably focused on her at the moment.
not to mention all the PTSD and horror of reliving ALL the shit the Briarwood's and cronies did to him for so long. MY guy was battling demons, if ya'know what i mean bahaaha
for the record, the everlight choice, the idea is that pike was conflicted between her identity as a holy person and as a member of VM thinking that they are incompatible, the Everlight was telling her that that isnt the case and for Pike to realise that who she is doesn't contradict her worship of the Everlight
So basically she praise the Lord then breaks the law?
@@philiptombe5708 She thought she was a Cleric of Life, but by talking to the Everlight she discovers that she's really a Cleric of War. Different, but valid, cleric paths in D&D lore.

The worse thing they changed in the show, it's really dumb and honestly could've done without it.
Actually they just took a story point from an earlier point in the game and put it in the show. Pike had executed a prisoner they had captured. In the game her holy symbol broke when she did this and for a while she was doing things to atone for her misdeed.
I think the reason Percy hesitated to shoot is because, while he may be a nasty shot, he knows he's not a perfect shot. If he missed or the gun misfired then that would be it for his sister and he cares so much about not to take that risk.
His gun is a smoothbore, he's as likely to hit his target as he is to hit the neighbor's dog and be forced to resort to the cannon at the top of the stairs loaded with grapeshot.

I just realized that the flash when Percy executed Anders is that the otherworldly eye flash for a second when he fired. Either a very cool effect or an interesting hint towards what the pepper box makes him. The phrase “when murder entered my heart” is a dope phrase but also can be the hint that this crusade is needed for him to kind of exercise these demons.
I think it was just a really COLD line from the ancient Taliesin Jaffe
@@Reblwitoutacause true, the coldest! It’s a direct quote from Tal during the live game. I always took it to mean Percy considered his betrayal the most personal, and that he decided to pursue vengeance instead of justice based on his feelings towards Anders. Obvious this is just my personal interpretation
When he's normal he misses a fair amount and often misfires his gun, and at most he fires 3 times in a row (level 11 fighters have 2 extra attacks per attack action).
In no mercy Percy mode he never misses even the most bullshit shots, never misfires and can fire 6 times in a row (attack x3, action surge, attack x3).
Also, that's a whole lot of spoilers.
You don't want to exercise demons. The last thing we need is a load of healthy demons running around.

best thing about most of Percy's one liners when he puts on the mask is that they're actually lifted straight from the DnD games. Taliesin just comes up with these on the spot

Just realized that when Keyleth cast Skywrite, it was one of the only times she didn’t second guess her abilities because it was an Air Ashari spell. For those who don’t know, Keyleth is learning how to manipulate the other elements (similar to Avatar) but grew up with the Air Ashari, so this is a nice subtle nod to that.
With Anders controlling Grog, that was something that happened in the game, and was a pain for a couple of reasons. Namely, Grog's Barbarian subclass has an ability called Mindless Rage, where if he's raging he's immune to charm and fear - essentially, he's so wild with battle-rage, those effects can't gain purchase. Unfortunately, because Anders went ahead of him in the initiative order, he got the Dominate Person spell off before Grog could Rage, which was the only way he could undercut him.
Also, Dominate Person in D&D is a concentration spell, meaning you can only have one person controlled at a time. This is to balance it against this sort of bullshit that Anders pulls, which would be massively imbalanced in-game.
And the half elves have advantage on saves against charm, so makes it even less likely than already impossible (though that feature didn't help Vax on several occasions)

Just for the people who don't know the real life things that happened.
1) Pikes voice actor / real life player had a job in NY at the time the rest were playing these games, so the "problems" Pike has with the everlight were the explanation of why her character wasn't there (in the game Pike decided to help restore a temple)
2) The symbol in the sky Keyleth made with controlling the weather was the De Rolo family crest
3) The line Percy said when he killed the professor, that was the line he made up in game
Grog is literally too dumb to be literate. One time, he was turned into a giant eagle... and became *smarter.*

Something people never get about the ending of last episode is why Percy didn’t shoot the guy immediately after that
That’s because the sister he thought had been dead for so many years was still alive and he was so happy that she was and he was so grief stricken because she was taken away from him again and that’s why he didn’t shoot him immediately after that
Seriously, I just don’t understand reactions like that. I did expect him to immediately fire out of rage, but then saw his face and thought “Oh thank god! He’s still a normal person!”

One of the things that caused Pike problems early in the tabletop game was doing some really unnecessarily cruel and violent things during combat (like literally torturing an enemy), which went against the tenets of her deity, so the DM reflected this in her holy symbol cracking (basically a warning that she was heading down a dark path).
I think they skipped this in the show for time constraints, and also because it was more about Pike's player sort of riffing off the other players' over the top violence during combat, rather than an intentional character decision.
They skipped it like they skipped all of the first arc and the pre-stream.
They skipped that part because it was in an arc of the campaign they couldn't really do for reasons, but still wanted to pay homage to it while they can.
That's a shame, i felt like Percy lacked and that would've helped.

She knew how dangerous it was for Sylas if it had been daytime when Keyleth cleared the sky.
... the reason he probably didn't is probably that in DnD terms he rolled an intimidation check and didn't get a high number also if he shot his precision roll might have been low meaning he could have hit his sister if he shot OR he would have rolled and his gun would have jammed
The fun part, in their actual game, it was Vax who found Anders first while they were searching the house. He opened the door and Anders immediately slit her throat in response. A fact Percy held against Vax for some time, even after she was revived.

Percy just saw his sister for the first time in years after thinking she was dead. He might not of been in his right mind when he saw her. Granted he was able to pull off that ricochet stunt later, but there was still a risk of hitting his sister if he fired then.

"Smartest Batman Thug/Goon" usually finds it.
Keep in mind in situations like that cassandra stuff there was simply a % chance that she would just die so that pause is characteristic of the players waiting to see if she is dead or not.

One thing I noticed is that Percy wields his Pepperbox with his left hand, but when No Mercy Percy activates and he throws on the mask, he uses the Pepperbox in his right hand
Pretty sure others have explained this already but the show is based on DnD. Meaning characters have to take turns, dice rolls can make players either fail horribly or be broken AF.
Y’all keep calling Percy trash for not headshotting him but you keep forgetting this is based on a game of DnD.
Headshotting a big enemy and killing them in 1 shot would ruin it. You can only attack them and bring their HP down till they get to 0 and die

Although i disagree with them bashing on percy for not shooting him, d&d mechanics are a poor reason for excusing plot devices. A storied narrative trancends the game, and although you will see semblances of the mechanics at work things will ultimately happen in a way that would have been nigh improssible to do in the game, like dropping a character with a single attack (when hp is normally multiple times greater than the damage of any weapon).
In this case, i'm fairly certain percy didn't shoot anders not because of any mechanics, but because he was concerned with the very real possibility of hitting his beloved sister.
@@dtox5559 The narrative of the show conforms to the path the game took with some exceptions. So the choices the players had available as players in the game playing these roles will inform the narrative of the game and, thus, the show.
@@zotaninoron3548 oh I know, the guy above explained it as if percy couldn't just drop anders because he had too much HP, when in reality percy held his fire because that's the rational thing to do in a hostage situation, as to not accidentally shoot the hostage. course, his mistake was assuming anders wanted to use cass to keep himself safe, not throw his only bargaining chip/human shield away by slitting her throat.
of course the story will play out based on the events that occurred in the campaign, but the individual game mechanics hold no baring on the exact way the story will be told. if a bullet enters a character's head, they will be dead, no matter how much health they might have had in the game itself.

It’s pretty ridiculous when you know that pikes struggle in this episode was kind of lackluster in the game where her morality like shift was because she killed some people with her friends and crapped on a bed😂
She was a Life Cleric, and she switched to War Cleric as she kept killing people and it was against her primary purpose dedicated to a God that heals.

Been subscribed for a while now. I'm generally a watch, like, and go kinda guy. Just wanted to say you guys are hilarious and I appreciate how you all keep things short and to the point.
So because of copyright they changed the goddess that Pike worships to 'The Everlight', otherwise I believe Paizo would want some royalties for using Sarenrae and the other various gods from their settings

So fun fact: Pike was considered to be a Neutral/Good cleric of Sarenrae (The Everlight is the copyright free version of her), which meant that acts of unnecessary violence and depravity weren't allowed for her alignment, which meant she couldn't access her spells. This entire segment was Pike going through an alignment change from Neutral/Good to True Neutral.
I see it more as her changing her cleric path from Life to War (which happened pre-stream in CR).

@@blackfox4138 It's also about adapting a stretch of the game where Pike's player couldn't be on hand regularly, so they had to have a mechanism for explaining why she wasn't involved in key events consistently.
He pulls up he trigger, then the guy moves his sister in front of the bullet… oh that’s a great decision. We literally seen a guy do that a couple episodes back on the rescue mission. I’m glad sheera Atleast has sense.

"Whole Squad is free against Grog". Not exactly, but out of all of them, Grog is the hardest to kill. Even with Keyleth hax, Grog's HP is 277 and he takes half damage while raging, giving him an effective HP pool of 554. Combined with his damage output (Percy has the highest spike damage, Grog has the highest average damage), he is essentially never the first to fall and he is guaranteed going to take at least 1 or 2 of the party with him in a free for all (and they have done so). The general plan whenever they did a free for all once they established what to do was to either avoid Grog, get rid of him temporarily or focus him down in some way. And because Travis is a conniving ass mofo (despite playing an idiot), he never makes it easy for them either.
One on one, it is actually not a lie to say that the entire party is within range of being one rounded if he gets a single lucky crit. On average, a regular attack from Grog is going to do 16-32 (23) damage which gets increased to 22-86 (50) on crit.
Not gonna lie, I love yalls channel mostly for Lupasan's amazing voice, lol. Makes for some amazing reactions when it gets turnt up. Lol

That reminds me of in World of Warcraft where a boss would have a mind control mechanic, target the raids' DPS warrior and wipe half the gnome mages in the backline before anyone even realised what was happening.
A good team has a contingency against this. Like Batman. He's ready for the TANK / DPS on his team to go crazy / get mind controlled.
FYI, Everlight, Dawn Father, and Whispered One are nicknames because they cannot use the god names from D&D due to copyright issues. For the same reason, they aren't using proper spell names.
