The problem with this combat axe is not the moveset, far from it. It's that it fails in its presentation as a weapon that trades clearing potential for high single-target dps. Which is completely doesn't exist, because normal attacks deal almost the same amount of damage as other marks. The best example of a successful distinction between the marks is the two versions of the chain axe, compared to which the Achlys looks like a joke. He just needs to increase the effectiveness of his vertical attacks and then he will find his place
I remember my reaction when I was trying out the Achlys when I first started playing Darktide, I actually physically recoiled on seeing its swing patterns like ew gross lol.
They should probably give it a bit of cleave on Heavy 1 so there's a reason to use it. I wanted to try it with Brutal Momentum since Heavy 1 and Push Attack are completely horizontal so I thought I could get decent horde clear, for single targets I could just go Light 1 into Heavy chain. Unfortunately even with BM, it still gets caught often in the horde, so it does not feel nearly as nice as the Antax.
Achlys is actually my favourite zealot weapon. Once you get used to it you can get some big value out of Brutal Momentum with the heavy 1. Probably not the most efficient way to clear hordes but that little bit of extra effort makes it much more satisfying.
I used the antax for a while, liked it quite a bit when I was on a veteran/zealot kick. Tried the Achyls recently since I like that stats that are on it. But damn, that is one of the attack patterns of all time.
I recently got into axes for Vet/Zealot, Rashad is my personal favourite, Antax, havent good a comparable roll yet but same moveset is nice and Achlys moveset makes me vomit so i dropped it. On a slightly off topic note, can't wait to get that Special Activation>Overhead Heavy for Crucis Thammer in a couple days.
Love me rashad axe instead for the same moveset of the antax but it has finesse too, only thing i miss on rashad compared to antax is the accuracy of the poke special on antac
It's total garbage, for sure. I have a an almost perfect gray 380 sitting in my zealot's bag that I won't touch. I'm gonna wait and see if they mess with the move set and modifiers in the upcoming patch. Part of me wants it to become awesome, part of me wants to be able to finally toss it lmao
I could see getting value out of the moveset tbh, and on most builds and classes you can use other answers for armor (expecting any weapon to be great any everything is just unrealistic anyway and arguably shouldn't be a thing in tide games, jack of all trade weapons should be only good at everything not great). Is it more work to get value out of? Yeah. But at the end of the day there are players who work better with downstrikes like this so I could see some people not only using this weapon but actually enjoying it more than other attack patterns. People who enjoy it will most likely be the minority of players but I could see this weapon being more than fine in auric+. Its not like 90% of the players you see in auric+ aren't using fun or meme builds anyway so it isn't gonna turn any heads of players who should be there (even the numbers guys know that you can outskill almost any bad build in this game). Not arguing its not the worst axe or even arguing anything, just saying that I do actually think there is value in this weapon and it can easily be used in Auric+ if it was your favorite weapon for whatever reason. LIke you were pointing out the other axe allows for lazier play, but after nearly a decade of tide games its pretty fun to aim at each head in a swing, after so many years it becomes second nature to be able to find the heads you need to in a fight so it can be fun to use weapons that test that sort of reflex. Honestly tho its hard to actually find a bad weapon in darktide at this point, like you can find the worst weapons' but nothing that's actually so bad you can't use it in auric+, the only reason one would think you can't use some weapons there is because they are lacking the fundamental skills needed to cover the weaknesses of the weapon, in either build or actual moment to moment gameplay (which is fine because honestly these games can get pretty hard, and I'm not saying you were arguing this either, but there are players who think that you can't play higher difficulties with off meta or even "bad" builds). Its also important to note there are 100% players who would perform fine on this axe but really poorly on the "best" axe, because tide games teach you through struggle players learn some weird skills to work through their own weakpoints and sometimes that doesn't work with certain "meta" weapons. I do like these talks about weapon attack chains and just weapon handling in general as its a very important thing when playing and it can vary alot on what players value on it so I find it interesting. Secretly I'm of the opinion that we should encourage new players to try everything and to use their favorite because it makes better players than trying tell people to play meta. Meta players tend to perform worse on average because they are undervaluing how much their own skill means to the equation and what "best" really means in a tide game. This leads to them not working on their own fundamentals because when they lose they blame their team for not running meta builds and if its their teams fault then they have nothing to work on. (edit to add: as someone who played like 800 hours of just slayer in VT2 you complaining about having to look up to do a wide swing gave me a good chuckle, welcome to the slayer life)
the atrox II is my best combat axe of the game not V, my zealot has survived and carried so many auric damnation games just by spamming the light attack and refreshing the ability timer
Brutal momentum gives you a cleave that does a whopping 65 damage to targets past the first. Waste of a blessing. Antax is goated, idk what youre talking about. Light attacks one shot every enemy below elite
Brother you are the darktide TH-camr please keep up the build videos and content updates there’s not enough darktide TH-camrs 😢🙏

Even if it had cleave.. you would cleave into the floor, no way you can hit more than one enemy with a swing

nice intro bro👍
Feels perfectly fine to me. Love my Antax.
Achlys is the bad one

I'm hoping to use my Achlyses to upgrade other weapons when the patch releases. If I can't I'll just sell them.
Do you have all the blessings for combat axes?
@@Engeetide Yes!
No Psyker builds? 😢
Might wanna not use weapon mod skin when you showcase a weapon so it's easier for the newer players to immediately identify it
Thats a good idea, hopefully i said the name enough to advertise the antax
I use it because it has a clunkier moveset lol im tired of using and doing the same thing all the time
Do you mind posting the mods you use? thanks in advance
I have a video where i show all my mods and how to install them
what? the antax sucks. the 2 target cap from cleave targets is worthless, brutal momentum is mandatory. its a waste of a weapon
