    I got a pair of DH Rock Hihats and a DH 18"Rock Crash, and they sound truly amazing! My friends who were also amazed can't believe the sound they hear. Listening outside gave them thought that I was finally able to seriously purchased some expensive cymbals... Then they told me to get the Sensa or DH Medium Ride after we watched this video. But for me the DH Rock Rides will maintain the sound expectation of the DH Series. I'll soon purchase that. This video really helpful! Awesome drummer James Chapman!

      Hey, what's your experience with Stagg cymbals? Are they break easily? I've heard that they made some fantastic china cymbals, but they break after just couple of months😕 There are several very affordable Stagg rides available in a local music store here in Belgrade (Serbia), but without any description... Available models are: STAGG DH RH20E, STAGG DH RR20B and STAGG DH-RM20B. The only thing I get is that all of these are 20". How would you compare them with Paiste Alpha series?

      @@Fucklesticks Now that you mention... I don't have particularly good technique either, but I've never broken a cymbal since I've been playing drums, and it's about to be 22 years since I sat down behind a drum kit for the first time.😀And I've played some reaaaaly cr.appy cymbals, much more often than some quality b20 stuff.

      Furia are great bright sounding, fast reacting cymbals, perfect for pop rock like red hot chillis and that kind of thing imo, they are cutting, quite explosive, short decay. I love the 10 inch splash and often use it where normally I would hit a regular 16 inch crash!

      +James Chapman Cool, I was waiting for it. All of these were very musical, as Stagg tends to be, but they didn't cut through the guitar much. Maybe do another vid with 22"s and we can see how Stagg competes with Paiste Rude, etc.

    • @James-Chapman-Drums
      @James-Chapman-Drums  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +William Robinson No Problem. To be fair, some of these rides do cut through very well, especially the 20" DH exo extra dry, 21" Myra bell ride, and the 21" SH Rock ride. But because most of my work is in the studio i tend to have a very "studio" playing style - I hit the drums very hard and stay softer on the cymbals to help in the mix. Thats why in most videos i'll have a mic on the ride as well, but for this is wanted it to be very natural and just show tonal differences with a pair of overheads. I'll think up some ways that might show a more live sound of these for future videos.

    • @mandomandorukot
      @mandomandorukot 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      do you encounter rumbling noise on the low end? I am planing to upgrade my tom mics because I have cheap samson r21 mic and i use it on my toms but i encounter rumbling low end on toms. they're mounted using drum mic clip

    • @James-Chapman-Drums
      @James-Chapman-Drums  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really use them much anymore, but no, I always had great results with them. They're very good sounding mics. The main thing I will say is that microphones are allot more direct than our ears since they're hearing the drum from only a couple of inches away. So its very very important to make sure your bearing edges on your drums are fine, and that the drums are tuned well with good heads.

    • @mandomandorukot
      @mandomandorukot 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks! probably its because I still use the stock heads for about 7 months maybe lol

    • @James-Chapman-Drums
      @James-Chapman-Drums  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      HAHA! yes! As a general rule, drum heads have about 20 hours of life in them. So 20 hours of playing. roughly. you can get way longer out of them, but chances are the stock heads aren't as high quality as heads you'd replace with anyway!

      Unfortunately I can’t see any videos on your channel but I’m sure you’re much more of an expert at this than me. You just just have forgotten to post them. Please accept my most humble apologies for not making my demo the way that you want it. This shows the cymbals in a musical context so that you can hear how the cymbal cuts through or blends into the mix of a band. (Something lots of people never consider when choosing cymbals then wonder why they sound crap at rehearsal) The overhead mic sound tells you how the cymbal sounds in person with no studio processing so that you can clearly hear the tone as you would hear it when you are choosing a cymbal in person. But I can understand how doing this and comparing 16 different cymbals in the same controlled manner would tell you nothing. So tell me, how would you like me to make your demo for you instead? Perhaps I shouldn’t play to backing tracks so that people who cant get gigs can hear how it’ll sound in their bedroom? And maybe I should only use a close mic with eq on the ride rather than overhead mics so that it sounds unnatural and nothing like the cymbal actually sounds? Or maybe I just just stop recording the cymbal with mics altogether and just use an iPhone so that the built in limiter and compression totally destroys the tone?
