    I love my MT10. The mid-range pull is amazing, even in 4th gear. Third gear power wheelies all day long. I like how the exhaust almost sounds like an after-market system. It has an electronic steering damper, cruise control and a 12v accessory outlet. I like how Yamaha configured the traction control so that it allows wheelies in the first 2 settings. Smart. My favorite bike to date.

    The '05 GSX-R 1000 engine was widely lauded as one of the best sportbike engines ever (I'd not go that far, but I agree it was a great engine), and is loved almost universally. It's torquey nature and overall character is perfect for a naked/streetfighter, so Using it was a very smart move both in terms of R&D cost savings, as well as marketing...No doubt that specific engine swayed some buyers.

    I love my new MT-10. My main riding quartet is on KTM Super Duke R’s and a Multistrada. They all took turns on the Yamaha and declared it best handling of the group and the motor a “beast.” They loved it and I am so happy with my purchase. We all prefer the grunt off the bottom of the KTMs, but these are almost 1300cc twins so they are gonna perform better there. Once you spin the MT up a little, the motor is powerful, but very controllable. I’d call it, “refined insanity.” Highly recommended.

    • @marshalg6220
      @marshalg6220 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You gotta slowly fill up the last .5-.7 gallons above the splash guard. It takes some patience to hold it the gas barely flowing, waiting for it to go down, or trying not to overflow. It isn't too bad tho and takes an extra minute for more range considering it doesnt go far. Someone told me and I've been doing it since

    • @chrispotter2948
      @chrispotter2948 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marshalg6220 so how much can you actually squeeze in there? I'm spoiled with my vfr800 on range. It fits 4.5 gallons and gets me right about 200 miles if I try.
      But for a few reasons I think this MT/FZ10 will replace the vfr eventually for me.

    • @marshalg6220
      @marshalg6220 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never had the tank completely empty but I think its about the 4.5 or 4.6 you just gotta slow fill after the splash thing. It still averages like 32 if your a mix of city/highway but every gallon is worth it. By far best bike I've ever ridden and everyone who has one says the same things!

  • @rightwingsafetysquad9872

    Your science man got the cross- vs flat-plane crank backwards for which revs freer.
    The cross-plane has secondary balance, but not primary. The flat has primary balance but not secondary. Engines out of primary balance require counterweights. Engines out of secondary balance don't necessarily require balance shafts, but it would suck to ride one without. However, high revving engines end up needing counterweights regardless of primary balance to stop the crankshaft from bending and twisting. So the flat-plane crank needs both, but the cross-plane only needs counterweights this makes the flat-crank engine have more rotational mass, and thus rev slower. It's not really about how high an engine can rev, but how quickly it does.
    Historically European sports car manufacturers prefer flat-plane V8s for the exhaust sound, and American companies preferred cross-plane V8s for smoothness. It wasn't because of the crank orientation, but other design parameters that allowed the European engines to rev freer.

    • @djwordnyc
      @djwordnyc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnnygorena5318 you don't necessarily need a Power Commander, you can just have your ECU flashed that will improve the performance of your throttle response and smooth out how the engine behaves. It's not the exact same engine. The engine in the MT is tuned down from 200hp to only 160. The torque is the same but both hp and two come lower in the rev range compared to the R1.
    Add far as weight goes the R1 has titanium headers and the MT has stainless. The catalyst is also different between the two.
    I just bought a leftover 2019 raven two months ago and it's just silly. It's absolutely insane

    • @miker1670
      @miker1670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? Just mod yours and your mt09 will still be over 50 pounds lighter and just as fast as the mt10 in straight line and handle even better because of the lighter weight and smaller gas tank. One exhaust change and a flash on the computer and done.
      The ft09 does everything better up to 60 to 100mph. So unless you intend to spend most of your time over those speeds in a straight line you are actually downgrading your (city) daily experience.

    • @tylerfitzgerald266
      @tylerfitzgerald266 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miker1670 actually the small gas tank on this bike is something that really bothers me so I would rather have a bigger tank. Also the mt-10 looks better in my opinion. Plus I'm one of those weirdos that likes my stuff to have warranties lol

    • @miker1670
      @miker1670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heff520 but your only talking motor performance and shifting enhancements. There is SOOO much more to a motorcycle then driving a straight line.
      Of course mod for mod equal mt10 vs mt09 in a drag race the mt10 would win .
      But when you consider nobody actually drives a motorcycle in a straight line only, you have to factor in the weight savings, size of frame and circumference of the motorcycle for ergonomics and agility.
      My point is if you do all your driving under 100 mph the mt09 is the superior machine because the performance is beyond enough for city performance fun. If we put the same mods on a mt09 as your listed above the mt09 could wheelie all day and zoom from 0 to 30 mph faster then a mt10 with equal mods simply from the weight savings and once at those speeds safety is improved on the mt09 because it can corner better from the lighter weight and brake much better.
      Overall the mt09 for (city,real life driving fun) is superior in every way to the mt10)
      If all you want to do is head to a 1/4 mile track and drive straight down it then yes modify your mt10. But who wants to do that? There are other better choices for that .
      Picture this for moment. I ask you to travel around your city from one end to the other as fast as you can and we set a timer to record .
      I give you 2 exact motorcycles . I then put a 60 pound child on the back of one motorcycle and the other one I make it a little faster in a straight line.
      Now I want you think how many times you would need to stop quickly or turn quickly or sprint from 0 to 30mph. Not only would you return more quickly on the lighter motorcycle but your safety would be immensely improved from your ability to toss the bike around. Every inch counts and every second counts when a car is coming at you
      I'm sure if you imagine this you can see why the mt09 is the superior machine.
      So unless your job is a drag racer and you don't actually drive your motorcycle in the city then I really don't see how your argument has any substance

I got a MT09-SP which costed me, full mod less than € 10K and 2 months of work and waiting: Ecu remapped, homemade exhaust, BREMBO brakes upgraded and few other mods to get rid of some weight and better..I guess it's definitely an option before buying a Mt10 and in the end my Mt09 gets owned only on highways in pulling-runs which aren't actually my thing.
    And above all I see all my mates riding R1, Ninja or Mt10 in twisty roads not having the same amount of fun I have on my CP3. Even after covering the "1000 turns road" in racing style I get off the bike fresh, no pain, no resemblance of tiredness. I ride every day to work and Sport/Racing weekends so I needed a Naked bike.
    I've also tried the Triumph 765, MvAugusta tricilinders and enginewhise ain't bad at all but YAMAHA engines make the Mt series a master piece bike. Will I go for a Mt10???

    I have a 2017 FZ-10 and it IS an awesome bike! There’s more the the heavier weight and lower power than an R1 though. It has different mid range biased cams it has a heavier flywheel the con rods and other pieces are steel instead of titanium like in the R1. The subframe is heavier too as mentioned. What also lends its self to the wheelie happy nature is a 2” shorter wheelbase in conjunction with the 2 tooth larger rear sprocket. It’s a fantastic bike and I picked mine up brand new in January of 2020 as a leftover for only $10k! I love this bike and the only bike I love more that I’ve owned was my 2002 Honda Blackbird I had back in 2007.
    A quick note on the CP4 engine as well. The crosplane crank delivers a smoother power output because of how it fires. Instead of two big power pulses like a flat plane crank it delivers four sequential independent power pulses so its much smoother and predictable on its power delivery.

    i bought a 2021 MT10 last year and put about 6k on it so far, and its easily my favorite motorcycle ive ever owned. sure its not as fast as a r1 but for street its plenty for me anyway.
