  • 🚀 Get ready as Larry and I journey through the world of compilation albums. These are the records that defined our musical tastes and shaped our lives!
Remember when KTEL, Ronco, Warner Special Products, and Time-Life were the ultimate music curators? Whether it was "Believe in Music", "Heavy Metal" or "Music Power" these collections made up the original playlists that opened our ears to new genres and artists.
    Watch as we:
🎸 Relive the history of compilation albums and their cultural impact.
📀 Share our favorite (and most cringe-worthy) tracks that changed our musical direction.
💿 We make our OWN KTEL(ish) commercial, "What are they thinking?"
And don’t miss our wrap-up segment, "What We Are Listening to This Week," 🎧
Tune in, laugh along, and maybe even dust off your old KTEL, Ronco, or Time Life record collections!
Please hit the like button and subscribe for more musical adventures, and let us know in the comments which compilation album set YOUR life's musical direction...

Time-Life's series "Sounds of the Seventies" was my favorite compilation series. I played 1971, 1976 and 1979 over and over.

I have it - the sound quality of those Time-Life comps were really good!! Sounds like you like that same music we do!! So much great music so little time 😳. Thank you for sharing and commenting- stay tuned for more good stuff!! 🤘🎧

Yes, so agree. The Time Life excelled in doing 2 things. 1) Improving the quality of the music from the Ktel offerings, and 2) Improving the selection of the cuts!!!

Hey, don't knock Rick Springfield!! He was a heartthrob of mine and saw him in concert in Milwaukee at Summerfest!! Thank you for bringing back that memory for me!! 💗

So cool - I only know one other person who has purposely seen Rick Springfield- she is pretty cool so I guess I can’t knock it until I tried it 😉- thanks for watching and stay tuned for more fun and would love to have you along😊 ❤

I actually grew up on the K-Tel albums! I only have one currently, 22 Explosive Hits, Volume 2, and it has (as if the original ATCO single wasn’t edited enough) Derek And The Dominos “Layla” on there, and an early fade of “If Not For You” by Olivia Newton-John.

Sounds like you learned a lot about music like we did - I am so glad for compilations- too bad the quality sucked - I did find each of the albums put together as playlists on TH-cam- a great idea and much better sounding tunes!! Thanks for sharing and watching- stay tuned for more fun!!🎉😊

Great video! My siblings had a few of these records, and while they were great collections, many of the tracks were sped up and heavily edited, as another commenter mentioned. As an aside, "D'yer Mak'er" is pronounced as if you were slurring the word "Jamaica."

True dat! I was going to mention that, but people might not know what song I was referring to! Also, down that same rabbit hole, In A Gadda Da Vidda was originally wrote as In The Garden Of Eaden. Some drunkenness got in the way, and they just left as is!

Yeah great songs - I am so glad the comp albums as a kid - it really set the stage for the music I love today! Quite frankly the music today is just sad - just love that earthy 70s sound - timeless 🤘😊

Love the bands you mention, especially Focus, Sweet! I would always have thought Focus was a one trick pony with Hocus Pocus, but they were anything but!
