It is entirely within your discretion whether you wanna go or stay.
I went there thinking it was gonna blow my mind. I saw a walrus and a bunch of reptiles.
The difficulty of commute, the cost, the hardship of travel. You name it.
Given the fortune that I squandered, and unless you're an absolute fanatic about tortoises and reptiles and usually get orgasms posing next to a bald penguin, it's totally not worth it IMO.
The beaches are not what you think. It's a volcanic island and the beaches are shit (black volcanic rocks). The people you see in the video do this to get viewers and generate income on TH-cam.
The archipelago is considered to be one of the most volcanically active areas in the world.
the weather is not usually good for sunbathing and the water not warm enough for swimming without a wetsuit. You will miss many of the luxuries you’ll find on a Caribbean island. If you want beaches, great food and nightlife, you won't find it there. Know what you want and why you're going.
The island is QUITE expensive, hidden "ecology" taxes everywhere. Park fee was 100 USD as soon as the plane lands in their local airport (Your 20 dollar VISA fee won't cover that; you've been warned).

I’m Ecuadorian and Marine Biologist . For the Next time you shouldn’t be to close to our Endemic Wildlife ! Don’t disturb them. Use technology , the cameras 📷 have Zoom! You were very close to the sea lion and sea turtles ! In other words... You should follow the Galápagos National Park Regulations - 2 meters away from the animal.

Do not go that close to wild animals..leave them alone and stay away from them at least 4 meters

Chase the Story, I know this was two years ago, but, your total respect for the animals and the country that protects them, including the Darwin Station is pompous and arrogant at best. How dare you disturb the animals like that! Where you not aware of the rules? Everyone here are praising you for your ignorance and total lack of respect for wild life. Love animals, you were taunting the Iguanas. I would have put you in jail for that!
I'm posting a comment below from an expert, it seems you didn't read the rules or chose not to read it.

You can be sanctioned for touching, disturbing like you did or accidentally killing one of the Galapagos animal. If you were with a licensed Guide that Guide needs to be fired for allowing you to act that way with the Iguanas and the Sea Lions. Animal lover, I don't think so I would throw the book at you!

As regards the Galapagos I think you should have rules to protect the wildlife. The Galapagos is a unique place in the world and it's good that the human race realises it needs protecting. It's a shame in the rest of the world this is not the case. Good luck on your pacific crossing ...

When our family lived in South Africa in the 1950s we had a fishing cottage on Cape St Francis (Kromme River). There was a huge flock of flamingos -- which presented an amazingly beautiful sight when they took off. Pink in the sky at sunset was a sign to see. We also had penguins in Port Elizabeth. Your tour should ultimately take you across the Indian ocean -- to Capetown and the garden route around the Cape of Good Hope. I need to go back one of these days.

      @ChasetheStoryAroundTheWorld  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+tww1491 You do! You make it sound so heavenly!! Tasha and I were fortunate to travel partly down the Garden Route on our way to join a boat in Cape Town before sailing across the Southern Ocean to Australia. For about three weeks we were in the Roaring Forties, being battered by storms and wishing we were back in Cape Town drinking beer! :)

I just found your channel today and subscribed right away. My husband and I are traveling Europe for a year right now but my next plan is to do central and south america but the Galapagos is on the tip top of my list because sea turtles are my absolute favorite animal. When you pointed and that huge turtle on the sea floor I stoped it and restarted to watch over lol.
Looking forward to getting to know you and the world through your vlogs:) -Ash

+The Way Away Hi Ash! Thanks for subscribing to our channel and following our journey. If you're an animal lover, then the Galápagos Islands are a very special place. Flights from Ecuador aren't too expensive, and though it is more expensive than most South American travel, it's unique in so many ways that's it's worth the cost. Good luck with your European travels! You should check out the channel Monday Never - they're good friends of ours and are presently traveling around Europe in a motorbike/sidecar.

+S/V Happy Mondays Is your captain Shaun Ryder?? :)) We were in the Galápagos for about three weeks. Maybe 25 days? It was longer than we'd originally planned, which was partly as there was a lot more to do than we thought there would be. And we LOVED it. I heard (don't quote me on this) than it is possible to temporarily stop there for up to 48hours and not check in. Maybe if you have a boat issue needing fixing or to take on water. If you're going to check in, it's expensive, so you might as well stay a while and appreciate all the islands have to offer. There's a seriously good chance you'll never sail by that way again.

But our past experience with bikes on boats is the salt water gets to all the parts so fast that you spend more time repairing the bikes than riding them. So it's easier for us to just rent bikes in ports and hand them back without worrying about maintenance or storage :-)
