    The design was modified so it was different than the HST. The powercar is 50cm shorter, the Valenta engine was down rated from 2,250 bhp to 2,000 bhp, meaning that the top speed is 160 KM/H. The same as the v/line V/locity. Other differences are that the air filtering and cooling has been changed to suit dusty Australian conditions. There are other differences, too such as the nose in a slightly different shape the horn is different, and the headlights are under the pointed section. Other then this, they are quite similar.

    By the by, the "slug" you pointed out early in the video is a diesel brake tender. They were used to provide more braking force for loose-coupled non-fitted (no air or vacuum brakes on the cars) freights during the early days of diesel power, since often as not the diesels didn't have enough "oomph" to keep the train in check on their own. The brake tenders were basically just heavy weights with power brakes fitted, they'd be hooked into the diesel's brake system to provide the extra "oomph" to help stop the train.
    Like brake vans, brake tenders have fallen out of common usage since non-fitted freight haulage was abandoned in the late 70's and early 80's, all freight cars are now required to have continuous brakes just like passenger trains.

    The XPT (eXpress Pasenger Train) was first considered by the NSW state government in 1979 when Comeng, (Commonwealth Engineering) won the contract to supply country rolling stock. Originally, the NSW government wanted singular railcars like the sprinter DMU's but Comeng said that a train based on the British HST would be better for the task.

    Nice video, nice route, nice train! I just have to watch you do the other trains in that collection :).
    Also, 982/1000 isn't half bad. All we need now is to do this in Quick Drive and ignore all of the speed limits!

    Wow, that is a nice route! Love the idea of making a past route.
    But, I have to correct you... 1138 is not connected to Star Wars, but is a reference used in Star Wars :)

    Great Video Moleman978 If you would like to drive the Class 08 or 37 in the route why not do a workshop scenario?

  • @Shipwright1918
    @Shipwright1918 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beg pardon, but could you tell me how you got the station departure board listing the scenario, the train you're running and so on?

    • @Moleman978
      @Moleman978  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Shipwright1918 I made it myself in Photoshop.

    • @Shipwright1918
      @Shipwright1918 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, I really like it, really lends to the atmosphere in your video. It'd be neat to have an app that would let you set up the old rotary-style departure boards, like they used to have in the stations and at airports that had the sections that would flip over like those alarm clocks would.
      Admittedly, it wouldn't be all that practical an app except for train nuts like me, but it would still be fun!

    • @Moleman978
      @Moleman978  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would indeed, I did enjoy making the departure boards but in my recent videos I haven't had the time to make them.

      Owen Simmonds Ok then , why don't you try recording and trying to be entertaining and pay attention to driving :P
      If you want proper driving, the commentary would have to stop, and no one wants that.
