I love the deep throated growl of that diesel loco, you can feel its strength thru the air vibrations, however I prefer the old steam loco, just cos I'm old fashioned I suppose 😮
You say old steam loco, but they’re actually quite similar in age! This 9f was built in 1957, and while I couldn’t find a specific year for this class 37, they were built from 1960 - 65, so even at the most, not even 10 years apart! :)
I believe the steam loco would be more useful than the diesel as steam has more energy and a steam loco is heavier so also has more traction but diesel has instant acceleration it’s the Tesla of the railways 😢😂
A steam locomotive has such a high torque (540000nm) and it is made that it uses 1/4 of the torque and when it pulls it uses more torque so because of that the the acceleration will not change when not pulling and pulling 500 ton

Which it was good at, some even got to work passenger trains which they also turned out to be quite good at if they were in good fettel. I genuinely love steam, I might not know it all about them, but I genuinely love steam engines in all capacities. But I do enjoy listening to a class 37 roaring down the mainline.
The best things are actually the carriages and having experienced carriages like those back in 2018, I can tell you all how amazing they really are inside. Btw, prefer the steam loco compared to Diesel loco.😊
Technically, the steam engine would win in a fair race, depending on the max temperature of the boiler. But I think diesel would when in the at the start of the race
Anything that steamies do diesel know what they can do, diesel steamy engines who try to do things better, they both have a different role We need oil! We need coal! All of us had just one goal try to do things better!

Love how the diesel sounds like a truck or tractor instead of an actually locomotive diesel
So... an internal combustion engine in a truck is the same as in a tractor but not when it's on rails?
