Klaus basically kicked Stefan out when he found out that he is marked, he didn’t want to deal with more problems. But then he talked with Caroline on the phone and realized how concerned she was about Stefan so he assured her that Stefan will be safe. Sure, these two were friends and had a bond back in the day but it was Caroline who truly made Klaus change his mind.
Well that plus it came in handy eventually. Stefan was the reason they were able to bring Cruz to the Strix mansion and have her make their lives hell. In fact only one of the ancient vampires that went against her in the Sire breaking ceremony survived 😂 the one being Ire.

my guess is your sense is like your sight, your range is wide but your focus is narrow, you would surprise how much detail we ignored. Therefore, even being with super speed or sense like a vampire or the flash may be catch of guard because they are not focusing.
