- The folks over at Radioddity are really cranking some cool radios. This tiny entry still manages to pack in AM/FM as well as skip scan. Pretty cool!

What I like about you Eric is you are the Bob Vila of CB radio
I will take that as a compliment, Bob Vila is a pretty cool guy
If it had SSB it would be a real winner! For a regular 40 channel mobile CB though I’d rather have the much smaller and easier to install CB-27. Regardless it seems that Radioddity still believes in the future of CB radios!
Maybe they will read these comments and take note
I mocked up a cardboard bracket for my CB & linear to fit in my Silverado. Now I can make it out of wood to snug fit.
These are great little radios! if you open it up and cut the white wire, it will have a 3rd option in the AM/FM menu, it will then have the UK 40 FM mode. and it will also now have a High and Low power setting in the menu. Don't move the jumper on this though, doing so will make it a 10 meter radio without the CB band.
Thanks mowerJunkie- I am sure there are plenty who will do just that
You sure about that? I watched Fred in the Sheds videon this and he demonstrated moving the jumper gives you different bands and hi/low power options, he said cutting the jumper would be permanent 10m only. He demonstrated moving the jumper and it appeared to be as he stated.
Great little radio ! Thank you for reviewing !
Anytime
This is an awesome little radio that can absolutely hold its own as a 10m FM Ham radio as well. It supports CTCSS splits, repeater offsets, NRC, about 20w output power, wide and narrow FM deviation, etc etc .. I really like mine!
Glad to hear that- thanks for letting us know
Looks to be nice radio with some nice features!! CB radio has been around long time and is here to stay!!l Thanks for the great review!! Enjoyed
Thanks for tuning in- CB will be around for a while
Hello Eric, good video as always, that little radio is a keeper. I ordered 1 to use with 10 meter repeaters when the band opens up. Set up as a full time monitor rig. If your not listening, you will miss the band openings. It has a simple mod to conver to 10 meters. 73 Earnest K5EWM.
Thanks for the info! I am sure that it will come in handy for a bunch to know that
@@FarpointFarms your welcome Eric. FM mode operates @ 100% duty cycle and gets out far better than AM or SSB. That's why first responders are exclusively on FM mode. FM CB can turn out pretty good, if people use it
That a neat radio. it does have extra tricks . I have the QT 60 from Radioddity and it's great. same as anytone . very clean RF signal. good sound. I have HAM/GMRS/MURS/FRS radios from Radioddity and they all real good. 24V can be good. some off grid systems are 24V . some Thunder pole CB radios are 24V as well. in outher countries CB is real big like the UK and they have 2 bands of 40 Ch. when you switch bands the display will change from EU to like UK . for the country code. the new CB's are sold world wide now. nice to have FM now. Russia does use CB band for TAXI service. some times the skip brings that over to the US. found that out threw some UK friends I made on CB. skip been running NY to UK in the AM for me. same on 10/12 meter HAM.
Thanks for sharing that- Your skip from NY to the UK is impressive
It's actually an so-239! The pl259 is the cable end connection that connects to the so-239 witch ar both called a vhf connection!
To be fair, I can never remember that one either.
Thanks for sharing that- my brain tries some days
We always called them UHF connectors.
I just got the anytone 500M and it's a great radio
That is a great little radio
Thanks for sharing that
if we push AM/FM & SQL while turning on. we can access other channels. british, german, italian. :ect.
that is good to know
If you hold down the AM/FM then turn on the radio does it give you band selection and Freeband like the At500m radio has this function. ( BAND C channel 23 which is the FM Calling Channel 26.805 FM )
Good to know
They continue to impress 👍
They sure do, they are really upping their game.
Just like my Anytone AT-500M except with WX bands. Nice
it is a great little rasio
I have the same Anytone. It helps to get in the service menu and make adjustments. As long as you write down or take pics of defaults. The receive's not great, the stock audio/mod not great, mic's weak and wish it had built-in SWR meter.
My cheap ass Luiton 308 sounds better but doesn't have all the bells & whistles. Out of all the mobile cb radio's I've owned over 40+yrs the Luiton has some of the best receive audio. I have a thing for these cheap ass Chineze radio's but will always like my old Galaxy best.

Today we drove 40 miles west on I-70 here in Kansas. I was able to identify the reason for stopped traffic as an accident. Love the CB.
We had that coming down I95- was warned about a jam a few miles up and were able to detour
live 50 miles south of Los Angeles , so far have not heard any communication in FM mode yet. this radio has CTCSS, and DCS that is big plus, if want to communicate just in family , in same group only. I will use CB more if people start to use FM stead of AM. AG6JU
I wonder if not too many people have the FM radios and that is why
Thank you Eric. I have the next iteration of that Rat Shack ht behind you. Not bad for what they are. If they ask, we want sideband.
I will let them know-
Fred In The Shed has a video how to modify this radio and turn it into a free band/10/11/12 Meter radio the FM Skip channel is 26.805 lots of AM options to talk sometimes you will hear other channels with FM low and high channels...
Interesting! I'll check it out.
@@FarpointFarms Yes you will like the video... It's basically the same radio as the Anytone 500 just FFC Compliant...
Doesn’t matter what radio service you use if it can’t help you avoid the traffic back up. Once your stuck, well there ya are for the duration
Many times on the interstate there will be warning signs of major back ups, you can get an idea of what is really going on and when to exit
Anyone know who made the Sears Roadtalker 40 AM/SSB Cb radio? Now THAT was a radio!
i think they were made by Hitachi- Someone chime in if I am mistaken
Maybe so. Still a really good radio in my experience.
Can you explain the attraction to echo? I’ve always found it to be REALLY annoying talking to someone when they’re in echo….
I am not a fan of it- I find it distracting
Ok weird question. In my mobile I'm currently running cb, and am planning to ad gmrs, and eventually I might get my tech license and run some ham. Are there any antenna that visually look the same for gmrs and cb specificly. So I could run them roof mounted on my light bar like u used to run dual Francis on my Peterbuilt truck
I am assuming you are happy with your CB setup. I would put a NMO mounting base on something that has a steel ground plain under it. (Hard to find on a fiberglass truck body). A 1/4 wave GRMS antenna is only 6 to 9 inches tall. I am happy with mine. 70 Centimeter amateur and GMRS is not worth high gain antennas. Keep trying antennas on your NHO mounting base till you find something you like. Experimenting can become expensive but it gives you something to trade at swap meets.
@@2148aa thanks for the help I'm setting up my 1985 k5 front half cab is steel and has a light bar across the gutters. My daily driver is all set I don't care the antenna are all different lol the blazer is more of a passion project and being old school wanted to keep it looking period correct is all
No, Each antenna is it's own animal. You can't use a CB antenna for GMRS or HAM.
With a new and modern radio like that, I wonder if it has a service menu like most of the President radios does. 🤔
I am not sure, maybe someone can chime in
Hey Eric, can you please explain what heat sink is ?
It is a way to dissipate heat- Heat is the enemy of electronics.
I hope they make a high powered 10 meter version with SSB
Anytime at 500m is the 10mter version
@@scottgeckler4531
Thanks 👍
The QT 60 is the 10/11/12 meter version
Thanks to all the other responses
What does the "EU" indicate? Is it possible the CB-500 is a dual-use unit for use in both the European Union and North America, with the EU indicating it is using EU specifications?
It appears so.
Are there any locals that you talk to that use cb regularly?
It is hit or miss, some times I can catch some regulars and other times, it is just some random people
18 Wheelers are 12 volts.
Some are 12v and some are 24v
Does the president Digi Mike work on this radio??
I don't believe it would.
My wife bought me a Uniden 980 SSB
Sounds like you have a nice wife
@@FarpointFarms I do
I wish there was a way to block Mud Duck without blocking 19. Surely the FCC will nail that guy at some point.
if you can figure it out, there will be so many people happy with you
I here him everywhere i go. Sometimes you cannot even cut thru his skip signal to inform drivers of a traffic stop. This is why i want all the drivers to switch to FM.Cant believe the FCC has allowed him to prevent everyone else from using the CB.
2 watts
Would be great with a little kicker.
Agreed
No SSB?
No
Looks to be the same as the Anytone 500m. Not sure who the OEM is ... I don't think radioddity is . China ! ....
It is similar
It looks like the Anytone At 500m But I'm hearing it sounds better on FM than the Anytone At 500m Because this new one you can adjust the FM modulation in the menu
That is good to know
It's a totally new radio inside compared to the original AT-500M. It's an amazing performer with a heap of new features. Made by Qixiang (Anytone) who are making the best of the best right now. 73
No SSB no buy
that is fine, not everyone wants/needs ssb
Nice little radio, thanks for the review, 73s 29TM063 Ireland
Thanks for watching!
CB is not dead! If it was, these companies wouldn’t have spent the money for research and development for new radios if it was!!! Will it ever be like the 70’s and 80’s again? Probably not.
You make an excellent point, companies that were not making them and all of a sudden making them.
