Michael, you could add brass sheets at the bottom of your door, which would cover the damage and keep moisture off the bottom so the damage wouldn't continue. It would also add a bit of class. Great find - to have the original door!

Opening with the French countryside soothes my heart, Michael. We live in semi-arid Southern California. Has its own beauty, in shades of brown & grey with giant reddish boulders of every shape & size. Had a few months of green, very little left.

I've always painted walls with a roller. You said it's better with a brush so I painted my office with a brush. Turned out beautiful and so much easier on hands and arms. Thank you.
