The Warren Ellis run is Amazing! The Man is so Talented!
As a Moon Knight fan since the 80's I do recommend the Warren Ellis run to start with for any NEW readers. The Ellis run is a great modern primer for the character if your just starting out, plus it's a quick read...THEN, I would start on your list to flush out more of Moon Knight's complex back story. Great list!
I love Moon Knight 2014 so much. Such a great series from a character analysis and visual storytelling perspective.
@@dolier2802 best run to start with is Bendis’ 2012 run. Great introduction to the character through the use of familiar characters and just a fun read overall. Plus Bendis’ writing is on another level

@@aabdxl-7651 not really. You need prior knowledge to really understand what’s happening. I suggest either Warren Ellis’ 6 issue run from 2014 or start at the very beginning and read Moon Knight 1980 issue 1- whatever issue you want to end on.

Thank you so much for this video! Comic books are always so daunting for me simply because there are SO MANY directions that can be taken with one character. But Moon Knight has to be the first superhero character that has genuinely interested me, so I'm ready to risk it lol. So thank you for giving new readers like me a good first few stepping stones to start!

Coming back to this video after being halfway through the Moench run. Thanks for the help man. I have only read a bit of spider-man and Venom stuff becouse that is what I grew up with through movies, TV shows and videogames. So I am in no way a comic book expert. I have known about moon knight for a long ass time. Thought he looked really cool, but I never really knew what he was about until recently, and it sounded super interesting to me. I will never be super into comics, but this is something I really want to read. I'll definitely be following this further, with some additions. The little I have seen from the Ellis run looks way too much like my kind of thing for me to skip. Ellis does seem like a sleezy guy from what I have read, but I am not going to boycot his work over it personally. I have also read some of moon knights earlier appearances in werewolf by night and Spiderman becouse I thought that was interesting. Really enjoying myself with this.
After hearing Oscar Isaac is playing moon knight and got me hyped so here I am starting to read the comics . How about the moon knight epic collection? would it be nice to read it after the moon knight 1980? Btw nice video man
the epic collection takes a bunch of the earlier issue of the character. A great grab if you're looking to start reading Moon Knight

I’m about to finish the Moon Knight Omnibus which goes up to issue 20 of Doug Moech run...& for the life of me I can’t find anything that has issues 21 to 38 lol also I can’t find any of Huston work to buy... I refuse to read them on digital lol

He is a great character so I don;t know why a content creator said he thinks he is about to be killed off. i think he has a nitch (not being crazy but being attached to a god) and I don't think his best stories have been told because latley he has had a whole bunch of new ideas in his stories and so i think he's actually do for his best run one of these days, that could be a legendary run. Matter fact some of the last runs have been dang near legendary it seams form reviews I hear. With Marvel Underworld around the corner with the introduction of Blade Moon-Knight should just be getting started. I hear you say read them all in order but the last one u mensions just sounds like it may be good to read after the first initial run.
so i'm little new to comic's in General but what does him battling with multiple personality disorder really add to the character?.
To me it seems to dilutes the original intent to make a lighter character that had found redemption and purpose and was generally happy
Yeah I agree, I prefer old Moon Knight, he still had a bit of edge and grit, I enjoy new Moony, but what they're doing right now with him abandoning his friends is really not my thing, his side cast was great, it's a shame for him to ditch them because he's gone all crazy and stuff
How can I get the entire 1980 series collected? The collected editions I've seen online don't cover all issues 1-38. The best one I could find was the omnibus and it only collects 1-20. Any suggestions?
There hasn’t been any news about a second volume for the 1980 series and the epic collection is out of print. You’re left with just buying it digitally unless you’re patient enough for the second omnibus to release if it does.
I’m very happy I found this video. I’m thinking of writing and making a Moon Knight fan film. Should I do a show with episodes, movie, short movie, or something else? What would work best with the character? Please get back at me, great video.
Hey man. That’s awesome you want to make a fan film. In my opinion start off small. I don’t know what your budget is but I always thought a cool stand alone film could be the origin of Marc becoming moon knight. His ‘death’ in Egypt, Marlene placing him under the statue of Khonshu. Then him attacking the men that put him there.
But that’s a lot of time and money lol. A series of short episodes dedicated to the Mr. Knight persona would be cool. Like a dark noir thing with a man in a white tux.
@@TsunamiStudios56 Thanks! I wanted to go for a Taxi Driver movie esc thing of Moon Knight’s life as Marc, Jacob and his other identity. I wanted the suit to be his white suit and mask as it shows him growing and becoming more violent. That’s my first idea but still thinking
Taxi driver is a smart choice! But If you wanted a different kinda crazy feel I’d say go more of a Mr. Robit Route. Potentially have a person walking next to Marc the entire time that only he can see. Like the Christian Slater does with Rami Malek n the series (spoilers). The person next to Marc could be jake, or Steven or even khonshu. It’s just a different kind of feeling that adds to his slipping insanity. Just an idea. Keep me updated on your progress I’d love to see the final product.

Is the West Coast Avengers and Secret Avengers crucial to the character, or just good? I tend to prefer solo protagonists over team books, but I still want the broad picture of the character.
They are not crucial. But show Moon Knight’s role in a broader universe. I’d say secret avengers is a little more important than west coast. Just because it shows how a modern team reacts to working with moon knight.

lots of these books are easy to find and in collected editions. Also, each one is available digitally!
Moench runs are collected in 3 beefy softcovers under Marvel’s Epic Collection brand
Lemire run is collected in a single softcover titled The Complete Collection

While I appreciate your passion and knowledge, I'm afraid I am going to have to pass on your video for not recommending Warren Ellis' stuff. I understand this is a personal decision and I won't get into my take on Ellis' actions , but this is one I disagree with. The reason being is that I have all the information at my fingertips so as I can make the most informed choice possible. Your guide with regards to providing information is incomplete and in turn is denying viewers information. And I value those individuals who can put aside their own personal biases towards someone and be able to judge/ recommend work of others.
To use a similiar example, I find Mark Waid as an individual to be an utter prick. Especially his temper and what he did with a CG youtuber. HOWEVER, if I were to construct a Fantastic Four reading guide, I'd recommend his run. Why? Because, it is well-written. I can separate my views of the artist and his or her art. The reason being is that I want to provide the MOST comprehensive guide I can muster going forward. And I'd trust my audience to be smart enough to make the choice of whether or not they'd want to check out the work.
Overall, while I am being very barbed in my criticism; I do not wish to demean your passion. It is clear that you love the character. and are knowledgeable And that's great! But I in good faith; cannot recommend this video to any my friends or even share it with your choice. I wish you the very best in your endeavors and I hope you will find success on this platform. :)
Understandable. I’ll rephrase some thing here. I would rather not promote the work of a problematic creator if there are other books of equal or greater quality to talk about. The Ellis run is good, a different approach to the character that I enjoyed. Thanks for voicing your thoughts, I love to hear it.
