I feel like I understand manhood best when my mind is attuned to Scripture. The Bible is the manual to all of life, and it gives God's answer to the teleological question, "What is a man?"
It's not surprising therefore that genuine Christian men do manhood best. How can a man do better than making Jesus, the God-man, your role model?
Everything innate to men as men is good. We're not over-testosteroned. God made us just right. Actually, many modern men are deficient in normal levels of testosterone. We need that strength and capacity for extreme aggression in order to attack the men who try to murder our women and children. During that defense, taking life can be necessary. Meek and powerful is the best combination for a man.

    Romans chapter 1
26] For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27] And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Wow, I'm FINALLY back online, after 10 DAYS of being locked in a low-tech world due to a truly odd sequence of personal circumstances. (I was even without texting and phone call capabilities. And no, I wasn't in jail.)
But it was good to just be with the Lord and the Bible for a while. He was reminding me that all is shaky and uncertain except Him. (Ps 46:1-2; 1 Tim 6:17)
But you were all in my prayers, as always! I try not to ever let anyone escape my prayers of blessing. I remember that I have the ear of an infinite God, so why not cast all the sincere prayers of faith I can think of far and wide?
May blessings "overtake" all those who please God! (Deut 28:2)

Grew up in a Christian home with both parents who claimed to believe. Both went to church and openly read their Bibles, we even had family devotionals, however my father was physically abusive and emotionally not there. I have witness numerous time his aggression towards my mother, siblings and myself. He does all the Christian things but his behavior as not changed.
He would smash the furniture one day due to rage and the next day be reading the Bible at the kitchen table. We never had nice furniture for long he broke everything sooner or later. If that doesn’t mess with your mind

"Claimed" being the operative word. No Christian does such things. Nor would any Christian wife put up with it. Why was he not brought before the church for church discipline and removal if there was not repentance? People need to obey the Bible in these matters! (Not saying it's easy. Not at all. But that is what needed to be done!)

I agree, NOT a Christian. So many judge Christianity by fake Christians. (Sadly far too many of those, but that doesnt make Christianity false, it just means those people are hypocrites.)

@@Yesica1993 Maybe the wife was scared? Maybe she tried to talk to him but without success? A lot of married people, especially women put up with A LOT because they have no choice, or because they are told that's what a good Christian wife has to do. And then people act all surprised when after years of desperation they finally ask for a divorce. Such bad wives, right? (sarcasm)

@@LykaLo Again, people should obey God's Word. You bring such a man before the church elders who must confront him, call him to repentance, and if he refuses, discipline him out of the church. And then help the wife/children.
Why do women marry violent/abusive men like this in the first place?! Unless they got married a few weeks/months after meeting the person, don't tell me they had no clue. No one is a stable, normal, decent person one day and a monster like that the next, with no hint of it.

Love Thy Body has been exactly the kind of resource for me that Nancy is hoping her newest book will be. I reviewed it on my blog and frequently quote it, especially the historical survey of how the best index of when an ancient culture a
had been thoroughly Christianized, was when it outlawed sex slavery.

@50:22 C.S. Lewis explains why nominal Christian men are worse than secular men when he wrote in God in the Dock "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

Some are...just as some Christian women are. But as nancy points out, the committed Christian men are actually doing well. Nancy is doing alot of interviews. A really good one is with Leslie Vernick who is a licensed counselor and author of several books. She said 1/4 Christian women are in a destructive marriage. She and nancy discuss this topic and what women can do.

Allie, how about interviewing Sheila Wray Gregoire of Bare Marriage? She has some very telling research. I'd never go to FOTF for marriage advice. I followed some of their teachings for 39 years and it's harmed not helped. Their "obligation sex" message is being dialed back as women are reading Sheila's findings and contacting FOTF and telling them that Sheila's research and advice is actually biblical and healthy. FOTF deletes any comments referencing Sheila.
