    Just wanted to announce on this particular video that I’m finally in line for this canopy. Thank you for posting this video. A daily reminder to get what you want.

    Thank you for the video ! The canopy looks perfect! I have had my eyes on this to purchase next. I live in the PNW and the rack that came with my truck (LeitnerDesign) is pretty open to the enviroment. Doing runs up and down the mountain things tend to get dusty/wet/etc. I dont mind since I hose it down but I do want an enclosed canopy to potentially sleep in there during trips. Hoping someone buys my rack soon.

      Could you perhaps measure the the height inside from the truck bed floor to the ceiling of the canopy? I’m considering just selling my RTT and making a bed inside the canopy.

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrMakasteven it's about 38" tall. Maybe 39". The entrance into the canopy is not that tall though, so in my case, putting my 34" spare tire into the bed you need to angle it to get it in. Hope this helps.

    • @Crushimwtf
      @Crushimwtf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@turk_labs Do you have your 34" spare mounted? If so, is it mounted up against the front of the bed to the front bed wall? My contour cab is on order, and I'm getting ready to throw my lift on. I've yet to decide on tire size, but leaning towards 34's.

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Crushimwtf yes it's on the bed rail nearest the cab. Running a Bash Fab bed rail tire mount. Also running a 2" ratchet strap over the top of the tire secured to the two front most bed tie downs. This prevents the bed rail from getting beat up. Can't put too much torque on the ratchet strap though, you will pull the tie downs out of the bed. I have 34's, they are 285-75-17. They require a little bit of work, depending on offset, probably close to the same amount of work as 35's, but without some of the downsides.

      @@turk_labs Thanks for the info man. While there is a little info on these new canopies, few talk about some of those practical aspects. This is factoring into my future tire size. I like the 285/75/17 (34”), but the 33’s does have some benefits.

    I have been dying to see a video of this new canopy on the Tacoma, thank you! Could you possibly make another video going into depth. Are the windows glass? Does the top have rails? Price? Weight of the shell? Can you register your taco as a non comercial vehicle through Dmv?

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Eventually I will get around to doing a full truck walk around. DMV specifics are largely governed differently state to state, most states will let you register anything as a commercial vehicle however. All the other questions can be answered by going to the Alu Cab website, OK4WD, or any of the large vendors that sell Alu Cab products - they all have pages on the Contour Canopy.

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      The windows make it look less contractor-ish and more modern cap/shell-ish. Windows let some light in, which makes it a little easier to drive and live with.

    I have a contour canopy for my Tacoma I’m waiting to be delivered and I can’t wait. Is the canopy level with the cab or is it slightly taller? And if so about how much taller would you say it is?

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s marginally taller in the center, but on the corners the factory cab slopes down towards the doors. The alu cab is flat so there’s several inches of height difference on the corners.

    Hey I’m planning on getting this canopy as well
    Question - since it doesn’t sit flush has a gap between the truck and the canopy do you find that not being aerodynamic having wind drag on highway driving? Thanks

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember really losing any mileage. Even though there is a gap, it sits at almost flush with the roof line in the middle, a little more gap on the corners, but not much extra drag.

      This shell just came out. No data for you. It's cool where I live currently. No idea if the windows allow air back there, would be tough to drive and figure that out.

      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is not 100% water tight, too much work. The Tacoma bed is made up of many pieces, it's a large undertaking to get it 100% sealed and not useful in my application.

    • @turk_labs
      @turk_labs  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uncletom8747 as far as the front of the bed is concerned, you mainly will want to seal up where the two bed sides connect to the front part of the bed. There's a gap there by default. I have some foam tape in there from when I had a tonneau cover, but I can tell you I definitely get a little water in after driving in the rain or when power washing the truck. It just dribbles down the side of the bed, under the OEM bed mat, and exits at the tailgate. I don't carry anything special in mine that I need to be concerned.

      @@turk_labs That is just a fact that you can't open the doors from the inside on the Alu-Cab. Not a criticism toward you. A lot of people have toppers so they can sleep in them. I'm 6' and can sleep diagonal in a 5' bed, no problem, unless I'm locked in. If I would have known, I wouldn't have bought the Alu-Cab. So, consider this just a message to prospective buyers. Thank you for the nice video.

      @@lhetrick1 I get it, sorta. But you can also close the rear door on the Alu Cab shell, and run a bungee from one of the rear gas struts to one of the gas struts on the side windows/doors. That will keep it sealed up, not locked though.
