I actually realize this even before Watts and Rosalene started altering his memories. It's actually really sad if you think about it. I wish there were some time machine or something to alter their life, not his memories.
(SPOILER ALERT) The most moving part for me was realizing River was making those paper bunnies to make him a "constellation" when she was dying, she with her condition of aspergers syndrome remembered clearly the night when they meet at the carnival as little kids and talked about bunny shapes in the sky, but John couldn't remember it because his repressed memories surrounding the loss of his brother as a kid so he just thought she was going insane. The writers of this story are genius, the wit, humor, and deep psychology employed, the scientific intelligence of it and pop culture side references, it's just brilliant! So entertaining and moving.
God yes, especially when you think that she made all of those yellow ones and in desperation to get him to remember she made the last one with a blue head and feet. Plus the platypus that meant so much to her that he couldn't remember giving her. And it only just occurred to me that the big thing he had to tell her about their first meeting was that he couldn't remember it, she was making the paper rabbits to get him to remember the first time they met.
the last beep with the strings holding out the same note. That is just genius. This game is the perfect example of how a game/movie/scene works with music. Bravo. And I love these honest reactions. I was crying for 20 minutes.
dogpupe No, DiCaprio wouldn't fit the character of John at all. And Robin Williams is dead, so he won't work, either. (What a shame.) What about that guy who plays as Spiderman (in the newer movies)? He would be fitting. Or maybe that younger guy from The Sorcerer's Apprentice. (Why can't I remember their names?...)
Totally. The reuniting with River was rather predictable, but the revelations in that moongazing scene? That hurt. Just knowing River had been trying all that time to get him to remember, in her own broken way...
i'm so glad .... SO GLAD! i wasnt the only one sobbing in the end ... for a 24 year old someone like me who has a lot a difficulties in life right now. and too much strong feelings build up in his heart. this really brought up years of tears.
José A. Muñoz A Bird Story isn't a sequel to this, at all... but its ending promises another Sigmund Corp game with the same main character as A Bird Story.
*le mum comes in room* Mum: "Hey Kay, want som-" Me: *sob* Mum: *looks at screen* Why are you crying over pixel characters?" Me: MUM U DONT UNDERSTAND LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE NOW
This game emotionally wrecks people, the plot/emotional investment and humanization of the characters is spot on. You need to have played the game to understand
Yes! I think if you haven't played this game, you just don't understand that games can be as powerful an artistic and emotional expression as any other medium! Perhaps there are other games that have pulled off something similar, I don't know. I'm just playing "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" now, amd it defintely has the same elements of really pulling you into the world of psychosis, so, yeah, perhaps there are more games like this, but, for now, "To the Moon" definitely towers above all the rest.
Oh men. I played that game like 10 years ago. In the first minute into that video i am sitting here crying. It is just brilliant how they brought so much emotion without fancy graphics. I will always keep this game in my heart.
Lolerzz It's worth trying but they'll twist everything up like the movies based off books. This game is just too beautiful to be made into a movie. It's perfect as it is.
xxRyanxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I know. It's such a beautiful and brilliant game with such a GREAT story line. I don't say it too often but I have cried because of this game.
Oh man wtf I cried everytime the ending came up. This video had no chill for me lmao the moment I recovered the next youtuber's ending scene would come up and I'd start crying again. I don't usually cry all that much but this game is really something else
This game is so beautiful, no video or even movies really have made me cry. This game had me crying like a baby at the end, definitely one of the best video game stpries ever made.
The green mile got me lol that was it till this. I have a brother who's alive and well but we aren't close at all for no real reason and this just was like a kick in the stomach :/
This game begs the question "Is it truly right to change the past?" and it flys with bright colors at succeeding to show what would truly happen if we've change our lives. This game can teach people to love the future and the present and that the past should never be changed because the past created the happy memories that we know today. This game is one of the best games and most memorable I have ever seen. The story is so original, realistic, and emotional and it truly touches you and succeeds in provoking a true emotional response from it's audience. It is a shining example that violence, graphics, or game engine does not matter in a game and only that the story and lesson truly matters, and I can say without a doubt the story is perfect in every way. Undoubtedly one of the best video games I've ever had the joy of watching unfold.
Just finished the game a day ago. Absolutely brilliant. I already knew it was short, story-driven and maybe a little touching but i was not prepared for this at all. Like one of the youtubers above, i play games for this. To experience amazing pieces of art like this. I droped tears not only at the end but also in the middle of if for no aparent reason mostly because the music is simply brilliant. I ran to the author's page 3 minutes after i finished it to buy this soundtrack. I could ve dowloaded it of course but this people deserve to be praised (and paid ofc) cause this is the most incredible OST i listened in all my life in a videogame. Regarding the ending, i just want to say it is probably the saddest happy ending of all times. He died happy because he fullfiled his dream but at the same time he died deceived given that was not is life. I guess his life was not totally bad. He tragically lost a brother ofc but he lived all his life with river by his side. The love of his life. Oh my God, i dont know what to say...This is something everyone who played it is going to remember for years. A beatiful work of love...
I sobbed like a baby the first time I watched a LP, but didn't really feel as much the second time. Watching these people react was like the first time all over again. I just started crying and couldn't stop...
Just finished the game then came here and watched this to shed more tears along with countless others. What an amazing experience this game was. Hats off to the creators.
I just finished recording a playthrough of this game and was simply blown away. I think I'm watching all these reaction videos now because I don't want to let it go. T_T
Nick Unpaused Blind? Check Facecam? Check Decent Mic quality? Check Someone who doesn't do an annoying squeaky voice the entire time in a futile attempt to be funny? Check Gonna check it out
I know Markiplier hasn't posted the end yet, but you should consider making an updated version of this after he's done, his reaction to " Everything's Alright" was pretty telling, he shut up, let it happen and you could tell he at least had a lump in his throat
I had to really think about that: "He'll find another river, but he'll never have another brother." Is it justified? It's so heart-wrenching of an opinion to make. I think it is. It's tough, but He really only has one brother, and he would never have another, whereas he can go on marrying another person. It's gut-wrenching. What do you guys think?
My personal opinion. The brother for instance (had he lived) may have grown up to be a terrorist or some other extreme and in doing so actually have made his (main character's) life worse, it isn't like the real brother (and thus the bond) is back. Rather we are putting an ideal image of a brother to manipulate him to the desired end which could be done by anyone. Giving him back a theorized brother at the expense of the love story he actually lived with River doesn't outweigh it, but that is admittedly purely subjective. My optimal ending would have been to show him those repressed memories and let him understand it all, rather than just warping it. Not to go the Mass Effect 3 route and say the should change it, it's supposed to make you think and it does.
I just finished the game, and I even knew what was going to happen because I saw a play through of it....and I still sobbed uncontrollably.....such a great, wonderful, beautiful, game
First time I saw this game it was Pewdiepie’s play-through and I was probably like 14-15. I have Asperger’s syndrome and that aspect alone really amplified the experience for me. I remember I was emotional for a while after the game ended.
Everytime i replay this play through, it always gets me. Om glad johnny got to spend his final moments with river, but he never got to go to the moon. I was so excited to see the moon. And he dies right before he reached. Damn it johnny, just a few mor minutes and he would have been hopping on the moon with river.
Marck Juarez But he does reach the moon. They fly to the moon when he is middle-aged, and before that comes a scene where he and River build the same house and retire there as old people, which must have happened after their moon flight. It may just be confusing because the scenes are not shown in chronology - the idea is that in his last moment, he thinks "back" to when they reached the moon.
Hmm. See, i thought it was playing a flashback of all the memories that are gone now and replaced with the final mpments of the moon. But it does give me a much happier ending for a very awesome game. That being said, i think it would have been more impactful if he didnt get to the moon. In johns death wish, he desires to go to the moon so much that he might have been even willing to forget about river, but throughout the course of the game, perhaps he subconsciously was not able to forget her because of how much he loved her and even when his wish was about to come true, he spent the last 3 seconds of his life holding river before he ever set foot on the moon.
Marck Juarez Actually, we're just seeing that memory in particular. He already "knows" he went to the moon with River and eventually spent the rest of his fake life with a happy River who wasn't dying from disease and a brother to grow old with.
Marck Juarez Actually no, he desired to go to the moon all because of River. Remember when Johnny and River were children, when they first met? Before Johnny left, River asked him what they should do if Johnny can't meet her the next year and Johnny replies with "We can always regroup on the moon, silly!" After his brother died, his mother gave him beta blockers which erased his memories, so he forgot about his and River's first meeting. That's why on his deathbed he desired to go to the moon, Johnny couldn't remember why but somewhere inside he remembered his promise to "regroup on the moon" with River. That's why I think the ending was perfect the way it was, Eva removed River from his life after their first meeting, so he would desire to see River again thus giving him the motivation to become an astronaut. He only wanted to go to the moon to be with River. He wouldn't have even considered it if it wasn't for River.
If I have to be honest with you, I expected a train wreck in this game. And I did see the train wreck of feelings. But the part that confuses me was the part when people said that they cried so hard but when I played it myself, I found out myself and I cried too. The game itself is truly a masterpiece. Sure, I cried a lot when River was talking with Johnny about the stars in the festival, that made me cry too. The way Dr. Rosalene was going to delete River but just removed her, that was a train wreck too. And the ending. Hey, if someone releases movie about this, I'll risk my money to buy it. It is truly a magnificent, incredible game.
I think part of the reason why the ending really hits hard is a rather simple truth: death. The death of an individual, especially someone you have spent much time with (such as a loved one), is almost always a hard-hitting real-life event, and in this case it is that of someone you've had the opportunity to watch his entire life story and empathize with for the past several hours.
Heh. Magnificent. I'd like to see a collection of the reactions to the lost first meeting memory, actually. That was the moment in the story that really blew me away.
Took me a while to really get all of it. After playing the game again. . . I finally got it. . . Then tears started falling down. . . I missed the last part the 1st time around
Personaly this is my favorite RPG game ever, i know most people love Ib the most but this was a fantastic game with fantastic writting and amazing music.
The worst moment for me at the game, was when Johnny smelled the dead squirrel, because he remembered the death of his brother and I think for him the worst thing, he remembered that night with River and the moonbunnie and he knew he was gonna die but he finally understood, why River made those bunnies and threw the hackiesack back then away.. This was so fcking emotional omg. 😭
Millions of lighthouses stuck at the the far end of the sky......and one day I am gonna befriend one of them. ~R.I.P. Johnny and River may you meet on the rabbits tummy
Just played a bird story, to the moon makes me cry loads, a bird story a wee bit. Of course the plot has much more thought behind it in to the moon, and suppose a bird story is very mini, and is like a part of a greater whole more so than to the moon.
SEEING this wonderful game with the BEST music ever i was searching up and down WHY THIS GAME IS SO SAD AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME??? (spoilers) AND I FOUND OUT THAT the ones who made the game are genius because instead of that cliche from start to finish it starts from finish to start and from finish you see how his life was and you start asking questions like who is river? whos anya? whats rivers disease? and you know SOOO MUCH ABOUT THE CHARACTERS THAT YOU JUST LOVE THEM ALL but you discover that john had a brother called joey and died because of his mother and (from human instincs) you cry because there can be a girl in his life but you will not have another brother and that makes you sad so they change his memories, saved joey and john met river in NASA and from all the things you have learned from this sweet old man it makes you sad because they were funny, adorable, cute and sad moments
It's even sadder when you realize, River didn't actually experience ANY of this...
I actually realize this even before Watts and Rosalene started altering his memories. It's actually really sad if you think about it. I wish there were some time machine or something to alter their life, not his memories.
RandomStranger_3 It would certainly make me feel tons better. T_T Poor River.
wat, now you're talking like that... .__. , River is just Johny part of memories .___.
Yuuuup
this game just ruined me...like so hard
(SPOILER ALERT) The most moving part for me was realizing River was making those paper bunnies to make him a "constellation" when she was dying, she with her condition of aspergers syndrome remembered clearly the night when they meet at the carnival as little kids and talked about bunny shapes in the sky, but John couldn't remember it because his repressed memories surrounding the loss of his brother as a kid so he just thought she was going insane. Yes, and the rabbit she gave to him was blue with a yellow belly, because the belly was actually the moon.
Yes me too. When I saw markiplier play it, I couldn't contain myself
You are goddamn right!
hifive dude
No matter how many days, weeks, months, even years pass, I still cry to this game. It's so sad but yet so freaking beautiful.
Mavu-in Kirugoa you and me both man
I still cry to this day
Marvin Kilgore
Amen to that.
2022 guys!
the last beep with the strings holding out the same note. That is just genius. This game is the perfect example of how a game/movie/scene works with music. Bravo. And I love these honest reactions. I was crying for 20 minutes.
i still cry - 8 months later lol
+Justin Foley Two years later...😭
shit it's already been 2 years
Justin Foley Theres going to be a second game, you know that?
speeder swift Yes
Ken Gao probably drinks goblets full of our tears.
I'd cry my eyes out till they strivel up and die for him.
He deserves every last drop of tear for the emotional masterpiece he created
THIS _SHOULD_ BE A MOVIE!!!!!
Yeah, DiCaprio should act as John, and the movie would be nominated for the academy awards, but wouldnt win
dogpupe No, DiCaprio wouldn't fit the character of John at all. And Robin Williams is dead, so he won't work, either. (What a shame.) What about that guy who plays as Spiderman (in the newer movies)? He would be fitting. Or maybe that younger guy from The Sorcerer's Apprentice. (Why can't I remember their names?...)
(I was just kidding, bro)
dogpupe I kinda figured, but I was like, "hey, maybe if I pretend we were both serious, he'd seem like he has no idea what he's talking about." XD
dogpupe ué, aqui também
I'm not crying. It's just been raining. On my face.
Hello fellow outdoors gamer!
I've just been cutting onions...
It's a terrible day for rain...
I NEED A PLUMBER!... for my eyes... *cries a river*
I’m not crying, my face is raining.
no reaction shots from the moon-bunny scene? that's the heart-breaker man!
Oh god man! That got me in tears! haha!!
Totally. The reuniting with River was rather predictable, but the revelations in that moongazing scene? That hurt. Just knowing River had been trying all that time to get him to remember, in her own broken way...
That was the saddest part for me as well!
If you still want a reaction for that scene, check out TJ Smith Gaming (Part 13)
AlessaParker Iv already watch his whole to the moon series ! haha
i'm so glad .... SO GLAD! i wasnt the only one sobbing in the end ... for a 24 year old someone like me who has a lot a difficulties in life right now. and too much strong feelings build up in his heart. this really brought up years of tears.
I'm 25 and this game had me bawling like an idiot ;_;
You are not the only one. Im 27 :). BTW sequels comes out tomorrow.
José Antonio Muñoz León Yeah I can't wait. My wallet is ready.
José Antonio Muñoz León FOR REALLL !!!!! My wallet is ready, but not my emotions!
José A. Muñoz A Bird Story isn't a sequel to this, at all... but its ending promises another Sigmund Corp game with the same main character as A Bird Story.
I think I tear up a little everytime I hear the last beep... No matter what I'm doing
ME TOOO
One of the best endings to a video game, ever.
*le mum comes in room*
Mum: "Hey Kay, want som-"
Me: *sob*
Mum: *looks at screen* Why are you crying over pixel characters?"
Me: MUM U DONT UNDERSTAND LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE NOW
Kayla Short it was all funny and cute until you swore at you mom lol
Kayla Short my girlfriend didn't understand either. These are MAN TEARS damnit!
the transition from the last beep to the credits and song is just amazing.
Its been 8 years..... And that flatline still gets me everytime.
This game will forever be in my heart and will always make me bawl my eyes out.
3:00 I wanted to see her reaction to River coming back.
Can you believe i cried with all the players?! :c
WHO DIDN'T cry during this game, I already knew what happened and it still hit me like a truck xD
Kathy Trujillo me too.
Me too
I never did at all 😐😐😐😐😐😐
" Hey it's Joey! I don't fucking care because I want River". Pretty much every persons reaction to 'To the Moon'
It's not the graphic to make the game, and To The Moon shows you how are true these words
No need for more words than those!
Ventodivino87 so che questo è un commento di 2 anni fa ma è un piacere trovare un fan di diddo qui :')
The last moment when Johnny and River was when they finally regrouped on the moon together after Johnny died.
Crying when watching every one of them crying ;(
Every now and then i come back to this video, just to see the reactions to this beautiful game. Thank you.
Laughing toghether is so fun , but crying together is sad , i cried with all people in this video .
Oh men. I played that game like 10 years ago. In the first minute into that video i am sitting here crying. It is just brilliant how they brought so much emotion without fancy graphics. I will always keep this game in my heart.
This video dehydrates me. ._.
My eyes were dehydrated for two days! And it is like that everytime I play or watch it.
they should make a movie of this game
no! They would mess it up.
xxRyanxxxxxxxxxxxxxx worth trying though.
Lolerzz It's worth trying but they'll twist everything up like the movies based off books. This game is just too beautiful to be made into a movie. It's perfect as it is.
ZaPTHD It needs to be played, by everyone.
xxRyanxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I know. It's such a beautiful and brilliant game with such a GREAT story line. I don't say it too often but I have cried because of this game.
It's not like I cried or anything, but that for sure thouched my heart.
I can't believe after all these years I still love this game and I still cry at the end

idkwhattonamemychannellol cute tails pic :)
My face litterally melted at the ending scene, i still remember it as clear as day! I sat crying for like 20 minutes! Best story ever.
I was on a plane while I finished the game, I was crying so hard, but I was forcing myself to refrain from bawling loudly.
Your comment made me laugh and feel emotional at the same time hahaha
We all know how that ending feel bro. It just... cant be holded back, it just overflow.
Dang Ngoc Duc True just True
This game is so beautiful, no video or even movies really have made me cry. This game had me crying like a baby at the end, definitely one of the best video game stpries ever made.

3:53 "you f****** bitch!" a very heartfelt comment! ^^
Alexelcapo :'3
just got done playing it and even the song gets me crying th9ose tears
12:58 Awww! I just realized the player was holding a plush platypus. :,)
Just finished the game then came here and watched this to shed more tears along with countless others. What an amazing experience this game was. Hats off to the creators.
Me too, 8 years apart i just finished the game. So beautiful
Ah, the emotion is beyond beautiful.
I drowned in my tears because of that song. Master piece.
I just finished recording a playthrough of this game and was simply blown away. I think I'm watching all these reaction videos now because I don't want to let it go. T_T

In my opinion, the most wonderful part of the game is 16:38
I just cry like a little girl, every fucking time.
So true... Wait, no! These are manly tears! Oh f*ck this it's such à beautiful part of the game.
Andrea Cuozzo what about th part where they play Everythings Alright
It's very beautiful too, but I think that the emotional climax of the game is in the 16:38 part.
If someone is holding back the tear during the gameplay, then the last beat of Johnny's heart will definitely let the tear come out.
I know Markiplier hasn't posted the end yet, but you should consider making an updated version of this after he's done, his reaction to " Everything's Alright" was pretty telling, he shut up, let it happen and you could tell he at least had a lump in his throat
he did....
Yeah but not when i had said this
miciso666 I posted this seven hours ago, he didn't post his finale video until four hours ago, so as you can see, math.
thanks for this compilation. every now and then i watch this if i need a good cry
This game is better than CoD.
all good games are better than cod :v
Every game is better than cod.
xD
every thing is better than cod!
this is no game this is a masterpiece of art ONLY finding paradise from khan ghao himself can top this
I had to really think about that: "He'll find another river, but he'll never have another brother."
Is it justified? It's so heart-wrenching of an opinion to make. I think it is. It's tough, but He really only has one brother, and he would never have another, whereas he can go on marrying another person. It's gut-wrenching.
What do you guys think?
As heart breaking and sad as it may seem, he needed a brother more but that doesn't mean it's not freaking depressing as crap.
Well said
Still, the saddest part is that in reality, River died without Johnny realizing their first meeting.
My personal opinion. The brother for instance (had he lived) may have grown up to be a terrorist or some other extreme and in doing so actually have made his (main character's) life worse, it isn't like the real brother (and thus the bond) is back. Interesting opinion. I didn't think about it that way
Thank god I didn't record my reaction. I was on the floor in a puddle of sadness ;-;
There are not enough tissues in the world for all the tears. I'm crying too much from watching the ending that many times!!!
PlaceboManifestation My testicles are so pissed of at me right now
"My testicles are so pissed off at me right now oh my God..." X'DDDDDDD
I read this as he said it lol.
You know, no matter how many times I watch the special scene in this game, I always feel like I want to cry
No one can't cry a masterpiece of this magnitude...it's so sad :')
I just finished the game, and I even knew what was going to happen because I saw a play through of it....and I still sobbed uncontrollably.....such a great, wonderful, beautiful, game
16:40
"Ow Eva you cow"
Those feels :'3
I cried just by watching the video and remembering the game. So beautiful
Never before has a happy ending made me feel so sad.
I can't handle these kind of things. I don't even have this and I am tearing up a bit watching this.
To the Moon... The game that reaches into your chest, pulls out your heart and crushes it in front you all the whilst caressing and comforting you
First time I saw this game it was Pewdiepie’s play-through and I was probably like 14-15. I have Asperger’s syndrome and that aspect alone really amplified the experience for me. I remember I was emotional for a while after the game ended.

Some one kickstart a movie for this NOW!... I want a part in it though.
Damn 20 seconds into the video and I've already got goosebumps. This game is just intense. And immensly beatiful
How many times I play or watch to the moon I cry I love the game
This game is really playing with your feelings man. Truly amazing.
It is truly a magnificent, incredible game.
this is no longer a game this is art
When his heart stopped, i just can't hold the tears.
I think part of the reason why the ending really hits hard is a rather simple truth: death. The death of an individual, especially someone you have spent much time with (such as a loved one), is almost always a hard-hitting real-life event, and in this case it is that of someone you've had the opportunity to watch his entire life story and empathize with for the past several hours.
that means...i was the only idiot that cried at the beggining, at the part of river´s funeral? fuck
You are not alone
Yay!! ¿)
8+.... that means i was rigth or other people cried in that part? (i fell confused)
Heh. Magnificent.
I'd like to see a collection of the reactions to the lost first meeting memory, actually. That was the moment in the story that really blew me away.
I cried for each scene of this video...everytime.
This game is perfect and amazing...there is no words and it couldn't be better. I love it
The last scene is brutal :'( OMG no matter how Many times I played or watched the game, I'm always going to cry
Took me a while to really get all of it. After playing the game again. . . I finally got it. . . Then tears started falling down. . . I missed the last part the 1st time around
is incredible just finish playing and I keep is strong mourn what happens to a man who suffered everything is amazing game I recommend it to all
I LITERALLY CRIED WITH THEM :(((( Such a beautiful game.
In order to appreciate beauty, you must know pain.
In order to feel true joy, you must be willing to feel pain again.
Near the end: (Jhonny playing "For River"): He decided to call the song "To the moon". At that part I couldnt help but cry :(
this game should be a movie, it is so sad
You're in luck. it's being made into an animated movie
2 years later/ Someone please make a new one :)
+Devan Cowan they are doing a new one xD, it's called "finding a paradise", but the it has not release date yet

I held it together the entire game until the part where Johnny gives his platypus to River at the fair. Cried like a baby
I can't even briefly start describing with this game is about when recommending it without tearing up
Everyone cry when the piano starts...
This was the First and only game I downloaded through torrent, finished, then payed for It on steam. Just amazing!
As a man, I am proud to say I proper cried when I finished my playthrough. If anyone hasn't played it, go get it and play.
Pewds was a baby back then my god
Also I cried like I never cried in front of anyone playing this game. What a great experience.
Just played a bird story, to the moon makes me cry loads, a bird story a wee bit. Of course the plot has much more thought behind it in to the moon, and suppose a bird story is very mini, and is like a part of a greater whole more so than to the moon.
If you do not cry when playing a full playthrough of this you are seriously heartless
SEEING this wonderful game with the BEST music ever i was searching up and down WHY THIS GAME IS SO SAD AND HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME??? (spoilers)
AND I FOUND OUT THAT the ones who made the game are genius because instead of that cliche from start to finish
it starts from finish to start
and from finish you see how his life was and you start asking questions like
who is river?
whos anya?
whats rivers disease?
and you know SOOO MUCH ABOUT THE CHARACTERS THAT YOU JUST LOVE THEM ALL
but you discover that john had a brother called joey and died because of his mother and (from human instincs) you cry because there can be a girl in his life but you will not have another brother and that makes you sad
so they change his memories, saved joey and john met river in NASA and from all the things you have learned from this sweet old man it makes you sad because they were funny, adorable, cute and sad moments
