The 927 did a number on PV too. I switched to Super M after this video.

Just did this for the second time on my 15 XT. I just realized that those bearings are sealed and I soaked them in solvent cleaner. Probably not a good idea. Mine was much dirtier then yours, and stuck. I think that I am going to start trying to remove and clean it with the cylinder and head on more frequently in between top ends.

I thought about trying that but not sure my big fat hands can wiggle the power valve wings into place. Kind of a pain with the jug off. Let me know how it goes and good luck.

@@burstcasino Yea, I will be prepared to at least drain the coolant and pull the head but after having done it a few times, I think there might be a possibility to wiggle it in with the piston up so it doesn't fall in while inserting the rods as it gets into position. I will try to rememberer to report back. I have only seen others stating that they were going to try to do it that way but never heard confirmation that it was possible.

Super clean. What did you clean the cylinder with?
I’m in the process of first top end on my ‘17

The barrel itself really didn't need cleaning. I used some PJ1 contact cleaner and a clean blue shop towel, and then used some two stroke oil to coat it with before reassembly. As for the power valve, I soaked them in naptha and then used a wire brush and a scotchbrite pad and a lot of scrubbing, soaking, and repeat which I don't show here. I kept the bearings out of the naptha mostly.

As far as the cylinder exterior condition, I always use a spray bottle with about 20% purple power and 80% water and pre soak the bike engine before power washing. I usually get the bike washed in a 24 hour time window. I found that letting a bike set with some dirts make it almost impossible to come clean.

Thanks for the vid. Is it necessary to remove the cylinder, or it can be done just with the head removed?

You might be able to do it without taking off the cylinder. You would have to take the head off if you want to clean the power valve wings. I would worry about dropping the power valve wings down into my lower end. Also getting the two wings in correctly might be a challenge. I would just wait till your doing the top end.

I have a power valve spacer on my 2023 300rr. Will I get more top end if I remove this spacer? Is there any fluids behind or can I just fake the spacer off? Thanks heaps 👍

I haven't personally taken the spacer off of my '22 300rr so I cant really say one way or the other. But, Morgan Spradling of Highland Cycle has taken the spacer off a '24 300rr re and claims to get more low end. Do a search for Highland cycle here on you tube. He has a whole series of videos in the Beta 300rr along with a ton of other dirt bike stuff. One of his videos talks specifics of taking the spacer off. Good luck.

This looks like a royal pain in the butt. for now I will just spray mine with brake clean until she needs a top end done.

Really not that hard. I had to clean it up as my power valves were stuck and caked with carbon. If you power valve wings are moving freely than there is no need for this extra labor. My power valves absolutely needed to come out for a good cleaning. I had a bad gas mpg problem on my 300 till I switched to the Suzuki needle and probably the root of my power valve issues. I was doing the top end work after 110 hours, so no reason not to go the extra mile in my book.

Hey, I wanna know if it's ok to have a little bit of movement in power valve mechanism?

You might check the bearings on both sides. They might be worn. I really not sure what to tell you. Also a check of the power valve adjuster near the water pump. Check to see if the spring mechanism is installed correctly. Good luck.

Look around the site I also found the spring weight chart, wiring diagram, power valve install, and others. I downloaded all of it to my tablet and phone to access the info anywhere 24-7.
