Tribute to John "Doc" Marcellus

On December 31st 2024 we sadly lost John “Doc” Marcellus. Dr. Marcellus was appointed Professor & Director of the Eastman Trombone Choir in 1978 after a worldwide search for an heir to carry on the legacy Eastman’s legendary Professor of Trombone. He was a respected brass pedagogue, and international recording artist who accomplished a stunning record of former students successfully winning major symphony orchestra auditions and appointments to some of the most prestigious music faculties in the world. John also played 17 years with the National Symphony and very impressively played for President Kennedy’s inauguration as well as for his funeral.
Not only was he an elite performer, professor, conductor, teacher, and mentor, but also an incredible father, stepfather, grandfather, husband, and friend who was admired and loved by so many.
