✨Brought to tears✨ Floated off to the coast and even smelt the sea air 🙏🏼 Am beyond grateful to be introduced by yourself to such immense stunning talent✨ truly am in Awe.. wow✨
Tom. I have no serious physical problems and find your style absolutely fascinating, the hours (years of hours) of work that you must have put in to work all that stuff out is staggering. I don't damp behind the strings either because I prefer that sound, that lovely full sustain and those ringing harmonies. I'm never going to be up to anywhere near your standard, but watching and listening to you has given me so many ideas and they are starting to change my playing already.
well, thank you dear chap. i've not looked at this for years, but for sure it would be an improvised thing. yes...get into slide, proper slide on your lap, not bottleneck. it will open your ears to a new perspective of guitar a new and different instrument. if you need any tips e mail me, ...altho there's masses of good and bad and indifferent on youtube.
Well Tom then I guess floating above the clouds could be described as 'sent to sleep'! Apparently music is oozing out of your every pore:-) Terrific tones and inspirational inflections indeed Tom! Thanks Al
Nce Tom. Also thanks for the awesome tip on choosing a chair with handles and a rubber mat on the legs to keep the weissenborn from slipping. This may help me take the tension out of my playing. Sweet instrumental.
@jlyonia its the balance between the right and left hand that helps. i do make some string noise but sometimes; that's what i like. i don't think you can download those skills; ! wow, if only; i'd learn to fly! my main web site is where to search for stuff cheers tom
@jlyonia i don't damp at all because i have no finger movement in my left hand. my technique elies on arms, shoulder, wrist and a flaccid forefinger. cheers
You improvised that? I was about to go look for a recording to download. Beautiful!! I am taking out my gold tone now to learn this! Sounds like open C tuning...? Such talent!
ah...that old thing... Have a look for the recording of 'Maggies Pies' , it'll be on the web somewhere, youtube, soundcloud, spottibollocks etc. That tuning is (from the thin end) DAGDGC
Wow, I've never had much luck with Goldtone instruments, but this one sounds amazing. Then again I've only played the lower end ones, and they really seem lacking on quality control. what tuning are you in?
@slideytunes that'd account for that then :) doesn't seem to be making any difference to your tone man - nice one! if you've got a URL where I could download some of those skills, i'd love to see it ;) have fun!
You can hear the guitar's lament. Beautiful.
Thank you. I did that so many years ago and it is also basic, but the guitar genuinely cuts through the terrible recording !

Have just bought a Gold Tone GT-WB GT-Series so am looking forwards to the challenge. Thanks for your review and performance - lovely sound.

That Gold Tone sounds impressive. I'm on the fence about getting one, but your demo is pushing me toward it. Well played.
IT SOUNDS EXCELLENT
I second gutbucket’s comment
Jaw dropping beautiful - I play guitar and was looking to get into slide. Your video could not come in a better time. Thank you for the music.

thanks so much Al...that was a few years ago - I'm older and wiser now, but playing much better, so your comments are greatly appreciated.
You're welcome Tom..
Keep on keepin' on Tom!
You have a wonderful touch and a wonderful ear for harmony. Such a peaceful and calming piece you played, thank you. Cheers, Pete.
Tom,, very, very tasteful and full of life. I get confused concerning the prices. I see the gold tone at $499 to 699
Nce Tom. Also thanks for the awesome tip on choosing a chair with handles and a rubber mat on the legs to keep the weissenborn from slipping. This may help me take the tension out of my playing. Sweet instrumental.
ABsolutley fantastic sound! Excellent playing - keep it up. Thanks for making the video - very inspirational.
Sounds great. What tuning? Sounds low as baritone.
Wonderful intonation and phrasing 👌😊
thanks...I really enjoyed melodies and the instrument...
I love this Tom. God bless you!
That was some lovely playing! Really enjoyed that!
thanks Mister Terry
I agree you play so well!

There is no problem.
Great! Great! Great!

CGD G AD
dear tom, wonderful playing brother... what tuning are you in? is it just open g with a low c

Tom Doughty thank you for the reply tom
just wondering why you aren't dampening the strings behind the slide?
Wow, I've never had much luck with Goldtone instruments, but this one sounds amazing. Then again I've only played the lower end ones, and they really seem lacking on quality control.

Two things I use my lap for: playing LAP steel guitar and playing with woman on LAP The guitar sounds better, but the woman sure feels good
What kind of strings do you use please?
i use elixir - coated strings help to reduce slide noise. mediums but I add a thicker 1st string 0.15
Sounds great but there not words to describe chers
it's about the sound of the guitar, rather than my voice.
…but it's not so much the guitar as the musician that is making it work!
