  • Hello again! In todays video I will be attempting to get this 1948 Gmc with a siezed engine and transmission to run and drive. This truck sat partially buried in a field for over 50 years. It is quite badly deteriorated, but I need to get it mobile before winter so I can use it for some last minute landscaping in my yard. Stay tuned for an extensive rust repair series on this truck
If you are interested in the back story and recovery process of this truck, please check out these videos on the ‪@coldwarmotors‬ channel

I personally would stand longer in line to watch you do rust repair than I would stand in line to see any Olympic curling finals.

Kyle deserves more credit than that. Curling is almost a non-sport, like watching the grass grow. Kyle transforms old clunkers.

Thanks for the chuckles (and outright guffaws) I got out of this video. Your concise description of how to adjust valves was one of the best I've ever seen! And, from where I sit, your work on the 235 Chevy engine was unusually successful, probably, as you noted, because you did the work when the front clip was off the truck. The old front-clip-off-the-truck ploy ALWAYS works! well done! Greetings from CA, the land of $7.00/gal gasoline!

Great video. Here at Lazy Hound Racing I have decided to allow the entire staff to watch your videos on the clock. We are really looking forward to this series. The 235 will live forever. When I bought my 53 3100 in SoCal in 1980 the 235 used 1 quart of oil for every tank of gas. It was my daily driver construction work truck for another 9 years. In that time I drove it stock from LA to northern Indiana and back 5 times. I was a much younger man then. I don't think it has enough compression to blow up. It still runs today. You and I have about the same safety standards and I've been doing this for 50 years and I'm fine, pretty much. We also have similar equipment moving skills. It's great to see you young'uns save these trucks. Joseph and Mary send their love to Allen and Poe. Mary is an excellent fly hunter. Thank you for your time.

@@CarterAutoRestyling She would be more than happy to do that. When she gets in the mode nothing is out of limits. Be it the coffee table or my crotch if it's in the line of attack it's traction. She has an advantage of her giant aerodynamic ears that help control her in flight maneuvering. Also that giant sexy nose contains a huge mouth and lips with Basset Hound drool all over it that can rival any spider web for stickiness. She occasionally catches one and makes a funky face like "that taste like fly". Joseph just looks at her like "what did you expect it's a fly?" It's similar to the look he gives me when I fall down like "what did you expect walking around on two legs?". I hope you picked up some tips you can pass on to the boys. I can send you several gallons of drool if you want some. They seen to have an unlimited supply.

I love old pickups, especially from the late 1940's because my dad drove Chevys home from his job during my youth in the 1950's. I wish I could afford one of yours since you do such an amazing job of restoring them. No doubt that you show them more love and affection than I could myself. But then I am only a wishful thinker and you are a veritable wizard of metal working. Big fun watching the truck in granny gear remembering it was, in fact, a truck doing truck things. That oil filter clamped to the manifold with muffler clamps was an option. My '61 Biscayne/235 came without one but it did have a passenger-side sun visor, also an option.

Cool truck, obviously super rough. But I'm intrigued and this will be cool to follow along. Good luck brother.

When you pulled off the cover on the valve train, I howled with laughter. And clearly, the choke cable debacle renders this truck forever unusable.

Can imagine the neighbours face realizing the GMC is actually moving the next day. Then takes a look inside seeing your setup. Such a lovely crocery runner aint it? So safe and elegant, almost luxorious.😂

I am shocked that the 4 speed is even yard drive usable. You have a talent for saving unsavable sheet metal, this truck definitely fits that bill.

Hell yeah... Nothing like the ole Chevy straight 6, tough lil engines. And relatively easy to work on. Thank you for a good gut laugh and a great video as always Kyle. Totally love the channel man. Definitely a lifetime subscriber. So glad I came across your channel Kyle. Keep up the great work! Keep On Motoring Brother!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
