Overall a good theory, but I have a few nit picks:
1. I don’t think Neville would necessarily get the phoenix feather wand because he hasn’t actually been officially marked yet the way harry was
2. Neville would surely know some stuff about hogwarts from his parents
3. There is NO WAY Sirius would let Harry show up with a toad. He’d almost definitely still have an owl
Indeed. I'm a bit iffy on the wand. Maybe yes, maybe no. Wand lore is pretty esoteric stuff, they can 'know' things even without direct interaction (like the whole Dumbledore-Draco-Voldemort-Harry business). But on the other two parts, definitely. I get they were going for parallels with the pet switching, but it really wouldn't fit. Not unless Harry chose the toad from a young age (which isn't impossible; Neville got Trevor when he was 8 or something, right? If Harry got his toad pretty young, like 5 or something, that might make sense, I could see a little boy finding toads more fun than owls). Neville knowing nothing about Hogwarts is pretty absurd. Like another commenter mentioned, it's not like his family would lack the time to get around to talking about it, what with them being essentially under house arrest.
In the original timeline Harry's wand either chose him because of Voldemort's curse, or because of the person Harry is.
Neville in this timeline hasn't been cursed by Voldemort yet, nor is he Harry. So either way, the phoenix wand will not choose Neville.

Honestly, with how cool these are, I'd love to see some Star Wars What Ifs, like what if Qui-Gon trained Anakin, or what if Obi-Wan turned to the dark side after Mustafar

I’m sure you have your plates full but i think it’d be fascinating to see what would happen if Draco were sorted into Gryffindor.
I know it’s said that Draco would’ve transferred but what if Lucius saw this as an opportunity to influence Harry and mold him into this new dark wizard for the Death Eaters to rally behind.

1)If someone had the toad in the 1st story, it does not mean that the 2nd one should also feature it. 2)Neville parents surely told him a lot more. Again, the 2nd story should not repeat the 1st one just for sake of repeating. It should make sense. Otherwise, great job as always, this type of series is one of the best.
The parents would actually train and teach Neville much more to prepare him for the future

Wait why would the phoenix feather wand choose Neville? He hasn’t been marked by Voldemort as his equal. So no piece of soul is in him. So no reason for the wand to choose him?
So in this version Harry is basically James? Nice.
Based on the birds Siruis used to deliver letters when he was in hiding i think harry would have a tropical bird as a pet. There is no way he would have a toad.
Also as being part of the Order of the Phoenix it is very likely that Sirius knew about the Longbottoms and the fidaleus charm and we all know how much Sirius likes to give kids all the information and let them make informed decisions. I think Harry would know about Neville's situation and i bet Dumbledore would have asked Harry to look out for Neville.
I also find it hard to believe that the longbottoms wouldnt have drilled information into Neville so he was as prepared as possible. To be honest i bet he would be a fair duelist before getting to Hogwarts for his first year. He would also know about the houses and Hogwarts and Voldemort.
Also there is no way Harry and Ron arent already bffs as they are both children of Order members and would have been around each other relatively often.

Not necessarily. Neville's parents are very capable aurors, so im sure they are capable enough to use Disillusionment on theirselves and go out for small "shopping trips". Also, Neville's Grandmother would most likely have been told the location by Dumbledore and have access to the place (which is safe since the spell would prevent her from spilling the beans even under torture). Last and least, supplies could still be teleported directly to them.

Question: why wouldn't Neville's parents have told him everything about Hogwarts? I would expect him to know about it. Plus it's not like they had a lot else to talk about for 11 years.

@Ke D What kind of enchantments? That is nonsense! No enchantments ever prevented Malfoys to share info about the school, and about education phenomenon in general!
Moreover, the protection family has in this alternative reality also protects Nevile from the Trace charm. He could literally have advantage of being trained magically before hogwards. Trace triggering would be completely ignored and regarded as false activation due to parents proximity. And if not, Trace trigger cannot reveal location, Trace is not secret keeper, even voldemorts spy in ministry get zero info.
Perhaps they weren’t entirely sure if Neville would ever be allowed to engage with it, so they wouldn’t get his hopes up

@@ked49 it's actually hagrid who doesn't like cats, Serious doesn't seem to have any issues with them as far as I can remember and in fact him and crookshanks seem to get along very well in the actualseries
Plus there's the whole crookshanks used to belong to the Potter Theory so theoretically speaking here we could have had crookshanks since he was a child growing up with him or they could have bought him when they went shopping for a pet because he reminded Sirius of his friends cat

Seems like Snape would work tirelessly trying to cure Lily's insanity, perhaps fruitlessly, perhaps with some success. Either way, this would heavily impact his character and the Snape/Harry interactions.
Knowing snape theres a good chance he would succeed too. At least partially. Hes brilliant at potions. Maybe a temporary return of sanity from a potion, like polyjuice?

Well with a completely different protagonist it is harder to just say "nothing really changes from x to y" since we have a new perspective and the old protagonist is highly altered by the early change of events
Perhaps it won't take the full 7 years. Voldemort doesn't need to bring himself back from spirit from this time round, which takes him a very long time in the original story.

I really feel like Neville's parents would've told him a ton of things about Hogwarts to prepare him for his entrance into the wizarding world. He wouldn't have gone into the school not even knowing about the houses. With Harry in the actual story it was understandable - he was raised like a muggle and didn't even know about magic. But with Neville's parents still alive, they'd absolutely prepare him and with way more care than his grandmother did in the actual story
I agree. But it might still be the case that they'd avoid telling him about the *reputation* of each house, and would be careful not to tell him which house they'd prefer him to go to (even if they did have a preference). Perhaps he might still catch that their tone of voice changes when discussing a specific house, but in their case, he would probably end up with a prejudice against Slytherin, rather than Hufflepuff.

I cannot imagine that Neville’s parents wouldn’t have told him about the wizarding world. He would know the houses at least. Plus there is no way Sirius would buy Harry a toad. He would know they were out of style. Im good with most else but those two things.

100% agree. And I actually think it would go in the opposite direction. I think Neville would be Hermione’s rival (if not just outright show her up) as the most book-smart person in their year. You can’t tell be that Neville, stuck at home for ELEVEN YEARS with no major distractions from his studies and with TWO talented wizard parent-teachers who have nowhere else to go and little else to do besides homeschool their beloved son, wouldn’t come in there knowing pretty much all of the first year material by heart (and quite possibly well into year two or three).

Also why does Harry have a toad? I doubt Sirius would ever recommend a toad. He would for sure have an owl still or even potentially crookshanks. I think they'd go to the shop and crookshanks would jump on Sirius, recognizing him (either because of the theory where he could have been Harry's cat) or that he senses Sirius as an animagus and therefore has a sense of trust.

Parapet should definitely either be an owl for utility or Cruikshank four-story reasons and Neville should absolutely know about Hogwarts of a school houses from his parents.
There's no reason Neville should be as clueless as Harry was when he first entered the story and it will take kind of puts franken Dallas into a weirdly negative light.

Why on earth would Neville not know about the wizarding world? He still would have been raised by his wizard parents, so they still would have told him everything. I also don't see why hagrid would take Neville to diagon alley, he has plenty of other family members (like his gran) that could safely take him.
And like I said before , if Voldemort picked Neville as the chosen one, there's no reason Janes and lily would be attacked. In the books, the only reason Neville's parents were attacked was because Bellatrix and the others thought they would know where the dark lord was hiding.( Which happened after his fall at the potter's). So none of that would have occured if Neville was the chosen one.

Yes both his parents was Aurors, and very popular ones at that. Being magical law enforcement, they would have known how dangerous Voldemort and the death eaters are. They would not have allowed their son to grow up helpless and ignorant.

Why wouldn’t Neville know anything about wands and houses? His parents were alive and aurors, they probably taught him everything he needed to know to protect himself and he probably would have already known everything in advance by the time he goes to school

I agree too. If they knew there was a chance that Neville would have to battle to the death, or at the very least simply have to defend himself against Voldemort, why wouldn’t they be trying to prepare him? At least with knowledge if not wand work.

I can't help but think that Harry and Ron would already know eachother and be friends since Sirius and the Weasleys know eachother from good old Order of the Phoenix days
I wonder that to. Although I don’t know if Sirius and the Weasleys really moved in similar circles outside of the Order, I do feel like Sirius would have socialized Harry with SOME wizarding families with children, quite possibly including Ron.
While members, I'm not sure Arthur & Molly would've been all that active with the original Order, even in canon. They probably had their hands full. Consider: two school-age boys (Bill & Charlie), one preschooler (Percy), an infant (Ron), and not just two toddlers, but THE TWINS AS TODDLERS...

They would have known each other/socialized together because the Blacks and Weasleys are related. Arthur’s mother was Cedrella Black, who was also blasted from the tree like Sirius when she married her muggle-loving husband. Phineas Nigellus Black is Sirius’ great-great-grandfather and Arthur’s great-grandfather, making the two men second cousins once removed. (Sirius correctly notes the relationship in Order of the Phoenix.)
Plus… you know Sirius would have needed the help of an experienced mother with a 1 year old Harry, and Molly would have stepped right up.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Harry and Hermoine will become a couple in this AU. A match made in studying.
Also because the Carlin brothers will always ship Harry and Hermione literally any chance they get 😂

Edit to add: Harry also writes his notes in a black notebook so I think the idea with the remembrall is to help Neville realize who actually opened it once Harry gets framed for it so as to push him to the right solution and clear Harry’s name
(Because why would Harry have Riddle’s diary when it was given to Lucius for safe keeping?)

It's so fun to try and rewire my brain after so many years of Harry Potter, to put well known caracters in different roles in the story. This storyline is amazing to explore and J is doing a fantastic job as always. I never really gave Nevilles potentials much thought and I can't wait for the next episode!
Yes! While I agree with others saying the toad doesn't make sense, it's just a fun plot switch that my brain couldn't fully accept. I kept picturing the owl in my mind whenever he said Hedwig.
I think Dumbledore would suggest for Neville to go to school under a different name. Then he could probably buy him some time in his first year maybe first 2 years before Voldemort finds out who he is.

That actually would make sense, and there would be a cool way Voldemort would try to figure it out! Compare the names in the book of acceptance to the records of those who are attending as first-year students and see which one doesn't add up

I have a hard time believing that the Longbottoms wouldn’t just live their life similar to the lives of people in the shell cottage; friends and family could come and go, if they were approved by Dumbledore - the secret keeper. And therefore i don’t believe Neville’s childhood would have been as isolated as you suggest though 🤨

Few things:
- Why does Neville get Harry's original holly wand? He hasn't been marked by Voldemort as his equal in this story, and therefore doesn't have a piece of his soul inside of him, so why wouldn't he just get his own original wand?
- Considering that if Voldemort happens to still be around, he'll be looking for the Longbottoms' son, couldn't they just have given Neville another name to go by? Voldemort would have no way of knowing that it is him he is looking for.
- Why wouldn't Neville know about the specifics of Hogwarts? His parents are both important wizards who attended Hogwarts, I mean, what else are they gonna talk about for 11 years?
Either way this is awesome, I'm so hyped for the next episode

In this version the wand is Elder. So it is not Harry’s wand, but a different Phoenix core wand, presumably in this timeline Ollivander put Fawkes’ feather in a different wand

@@presspause1993 I just rewatched that moment and no, the wand made of elder is the one right before the one Neville actually gets. There's literally no reason the second wand with Fawkes's feather wouldn't just be the holly wand Harry original gets, so it's this one Neville gets here, which again doesn't really make sense I don't think.
I'm already excited to see how complicated the ownership of the Elder Wand will be in this timeline.

Low key here for Harry being a lil James Jr. Honestly with how much Sirius loved his bestie, Harry would grow up with tales of his father being charming, charismatic, and outright heroic. James having died that night would seal his legacy as a hero in his son's eyes and honestly that feels VERY James Potter to me.
I love Harry perpetually eyerolling at Snape and just being pettier and pettier. Bet he calls Sirius 'Dad' or something. I mean he's basically Sirius' son at this point.
Just a couple notes: In the books (It's different in the movie) Hagrid *was* in Ollivanders when Harry got his wand, and He and Hagrid picked out Hedwig together before leaving Diagon Alley. I know it's fun to reverse-role Harry and Neville, but Neville got his toad as a gift from his great uncle Algie, who I imagine would still buy one for him upon hearing his grandnephew got accepted to Hogwarts. I always got the feeling Neville's family was old fashioned like that.
Yeah... this is really feeling more like "Harry Potter But if Neville was Harry and Harry was Neville" and honestly that's just kind of incredibly disappointing. There's just so much more potential than is being taken on here.

A Harry with Siriuses level of self confidence was one thing I didn’t think I needed before now.
I really like the idea of not necessarily keeping these parts lined up 1:1 with books. The scriptwriting and theorycrafting is all very detailed and fun so I appreciate you not rushing through too much! * I love rewatching things like this because you can immediately pick up on certain clues - the tiny mention of Draco holding a black book when he meets Neville, Harry entering the compartment, then a little later a seemingly-nothing reference to Harry scribbling notes in a black book - then ending it all off with the chamber opening and Harry being absent.

The whole reason Harry is as demure and humble as he is usually is his upbringing at the Dursley house. He would likely be exactly like his dad if Sirius raised him, or his own parents.

That is absolutely fantastic! When you realize how much of a better life Harry could have if Dumbledore was the secret keeper. Now of course as we see even in this case, being only at home for so many years is not a very positive thing but it's a lot better than being raised by 3 evil muggles.

I recently finished listening to Half Blood Prince and I had a thought. What if Ron and Hermione had actually taken Harry's worries about Draco seriously. I never noticed what a big part of the book it was, and I wonder how different the school year would have been if they'd actually believed him.
You said the Chamber of secrets, and I did a double take because that's the second year. Then I realized that Voldemort probably wouldn't care about the philosophers stone under normal circumstances. This is panning out to be a long series, and I'm looking forward to it. I like how cool Harry is, like his father.
I always assumed the brother wand picked Harry because he had Voldemorts soul in him. If it’s brother picked Tom, then in the eyes of the wand Harry would be like another Tom. That was my assumption

Just a thought about the twist for the next video. Somebody might have already said this, but at 13:50, it is stated that Draco is holding a black book. A couple of seconds later, Neville feels a sinking sensation. Where from? The book. Let’s skip ahead to 22:02, when it is revealed that Harry takes “copious notes” in a black notebook. Interesting. Then, at 25:48, Harry spent hours reviewing his notes. This all makes sense at 27:00. The chamber of secrets has been opened. Tom Riddle is back. The Malfoys had a black book. Harry ended has a black journal that he constantly writes in and studies. The dots are connecting.
Harry grew up in the care of Muggles completely ignorant to the magical world. He also did not grow up in hiding. Neville on the other hand was in hiding for all his life but grew up with two wizard parents and possibly an uncle and grandmother who were all wizards/witches. There is no reason his parents would keep him oblivious to the Hogwarts houses or anything else about the magical world, save perhaps Voldemort himself. If Neville were to be sent to Hogwarts I can't imagine that Frank and Alice would want him using the name Longbottom among any that would recognize the name.
Also, I cannot buy that Harry would get a toad or name it Hedwig, especially growing up around Sirius. Maybe a cat, but more likely an owl. Growing up among wizards he'd be less likely to pour through his books how he did to come up with the name Hedwig, not to mention it's a name that does not fit a toad nearly as well as an Owl. And Treva is a weird choice as well, Trevor is a not uncommon English name, Treva is not. I see what you were trying to do, but I don't think it quite works.
Maybe Dumbledore ordered them to keep Neville in the dark about the outside world and concoct a cover story so he doesn't try to escape. In the original timeline, he ordered Mrs. Figg to not tell Harry anything even though she could have. It is believed that Hogwarts is the safest place in the world so Neville using his real name there shouldn't be a problem. And when he's not there, he'll be at home under the fidelius charm.
I thought the reason harry got the phoenix wand was because he was already marked by voldemort making him his equal ‘brother’ and getting the twin wand. What would be the justification for that wand favoring the unmarked neville?
Why couldn't Nevills parents and Dumbledore allow Neville to interact with other people? Only the secret keeper can tell anyone else where they are hiding, so it would be pretty safe, right?

Usually in the trace can tell where and when an underage wizard/witch used magic, but the fideleous charm keeps a person’s location secret. So if a fideleous charm is placed can you do underage magic without being caught? Could you please make a video about this?

Well, in the og timeline, Neville was also very isolated under the wing of his strong tempered grandma, so not much would have changed except he would have even less social skills in this new timeline but being raised by his parents would make him a bit less pressured, but he would still be inept but in a lesser degree, especially now that he would have his own wand.
I partially agree and partially disagree. I agree that Neville would be heavily lacking in social skills, for example. However I think Neville would actually be EXTREMELY competent, least in a book-smart way. His two talented wizard parents would have eleven years to teach him with virtually no distractions for any of them, and they know he’s the target of Voldemort so I expect they’d give him every scrap of knowledge they can that might one day help him. Also his parents would be much more loving and encouraging than his grandma was, so I think that would help his competency a lot. But yes still socially awkward for sure. Real “my parents are my best friends” kid vibe.
We’re never told that Neville is isolated growing up. That’s fine for your head canon but it’s not canon.
