- There's no denying the GuliKit KK3 Max is a great controller but there's 2 major issues I have with it.
The GuliKit KK3 Max controller is possibly one of the most spec'd out we've seen so far, it's got almost everything you could imagine or want from hall effect joysticks & triggers, digital & analogue trigger modes, 4x back paddles, 8 & 4 way D-Pad, mechanical face buttons, standard rumble, HD rumble, Maglev HD rumble, 10 minute macro recording, turbo, button assign to back paddles, NFC and even more.
So what are my issues with the GuliKit KK3 Max? Find out in this video...

29:09 My Thoughts On The KK3 Max - เกม
I think the issue with this HD rumble is that the rotors are way too big. In a joycon the rotors are smaller and are made to vibrate at those higher frequencies. So when big rotors spin that fast it feels violent.
This is a very detailed and helpful video. I’m going to purchase this controller. Your video was the most helpful on TH-cam.
Thank you so much for this review! Which pro controller alternative would you recommend?
Still sticking with my 8bitdo Ultimate Controller. Not that many features but still ticks all the right boxes for me. 😁😎
my only complaint is the rumble motors are anemic on my ultimate controller. Is that a defect or by design? I can barely feel the rumble at all and the left and right motors don't rumble the same way. I tried changing them with their software but it doesn't seem to help.
The rumble on that one sucks. Either too weak or too strong. Had to turn it off. Which is a shame because HD Rumble is one of the switch’s big new features and paved the way for PS5’s incredible haptics. Hoping that this controller’s HD Rumble is more similar to the pro controller’s quality
Idk about you guys but in the app change the rumble of the right one to 2 and the left one to 3, it's way better for me and not violent
The KK3 is the first controller I've heard of with a d-pad that can switch between 4-way mode and 8-way. Are there any other Switch controllers/pads that have this feature?
Hello my friend , instead of seeting a button shortcut to these back paddles , is it possible to enable these back paddles to new buttons ? Like extra buttons to use ?
Or, would it be possible to swap the motors from the pro controller with the KK3 Max Pro?
well mechanical doesn't necessary always be clicky, there is silent switches available. however looking at their website it seems they use proprietary switch housing design.
Yeah, you're totally right but I do have experience with silent switches and these definitely don't feel like those either!
They are mechanical on the King Kong pro 2 controller, as I teared it open and I can confirm they are mechanical, I wonder if they really changed them here, and if that is the case, why 🤔
@@128KB that's i think would be decent video idea, to teardown and check the swithes, me my self really curion whether the clicky switch on the m6 HD could be replaced with something more silence.
They're just rubber membrane enclosed in a housing
@128KB They just made a statement confirming its membrane. Said early releases had mechanical but it's membrane now. Sounds like excuses to me after getting caught
Mechanical face buttons is a lie!
I keep seeing mixed info when looking this up, that dongle that was in the case, is that a wireless dongle to hook it to pc?
Si fuiste muy duro con el control pero era justo y necesario, tu me ayudaste a diferenciar y entender realmente el HD Rumble, y es justo resaltar estas carencias, en español hay un dicho dice asi "dime de que presumes y te dire de que careces"
My elite 2 c port went out and I like to play wired and this checks all the boxes and then some for what I'm looking for in a replacement
Great controller review. I like how 128kb focuses on how the controllers are instead of saying a controller is good and you need to buy it. I have both the gullikt KK3 and the MobaPad chitu hd. To be honest the gullikit falls short in a lot of places. The hd rumble is really annoying to use, the joysticks are too loose, and the bottom backpaddles need to be adjusted to fit on the controller.
_“The two things I was looking forward to were the two things I was most disappointed by.”_
Oh, man. Sounds like a very classic case. Sure one doesn't imply the other? :p
I don't believe the issues are that huge but I can agree that they're there. Mostly rumble and trigger pre-travel, those would be the two main (and actually established) issues, especially the later (VK tested the former, adn while it wasn't prefect on that level, it was dedent).
how long did it take to upate, waited 5 mins and the controller still hasnt turned off
This is such a good review. The best I’ve seen… and I’ve seen a lot. 😅
Far too kind, thank you ♥️
I appreciate your honesty in the reviews. After watching this video I think that the Mobapad M9 HD is better for the Nintendo Switch.
How’s the D-pad i need a good one for f-zero 99 with no slding to left or right when you put down?
The back paddles are tied to the face button of your choice, so wouldnt you just apply the turbo to the appropriate face button?
what would your preferred controller be instead of this if you wanted the same features?
Is it possible taking the controller apart and insulating the motors that could fix it?
I dont think you need to do that i tried it with a pc and the rumble is surprisingly good like wayy better than on switch idk why but on switch its like a generator 😂 on pc its nice tho
I think Mario Wonder's second level just isn't a great way to test the rumble. Like, sure, it's pretty much the only _recordable_ way to show it to an audience through a TH-cam video… but at the same time, it feels like such a weird, niche and specific feature, almost like it's separate from “normal” HD Rumble (I mean, in the game's settings, there's literally an option to turn off sound alongside adjusting rumble strength--literally the same setting in the menu).
I don't know how it works internally, but it's probably a specific use of Nintendo's particular (and probably patented) API and motors. I don't know if it's a weird hardware feature that's rarely used, or if it's a software idea that the game specifically came up with and uses the hardware in just the right way to produce that result… but it just feels like it's too much to expect from a third-party company that perhaps wasn't even allowed to manufacture its controller this way (or couldn't access to blueprints; I don't know how much of a trade secret it is or if it's accessible to certain companies in China or maybe even publicly available).
I suppose it would be hard to convey a feeling of touch any other way, but I suppose I'm mostly interested in how the vibrations generally _feel_ across games that use HD Rumble for your usual experience enhancing moments, like Zelda explosions, Mario Kart engines, Smash Bros. attacks or whatever. As long as that feels better than those dumb vibratory motors in controllers… I guess I'm happy. Unless it's just horrendous, so I guess I'll just have to try that one out! Remember Amazon returns are always a thing in the worst case, people! (but this does feel like a really good all-round feature-packed controller for me to keep it :3)
Maybe another (even more famous) test case is the example of 1-2 Switch. That marble counting game was the typical showcase for HD Rumble. Not everybody has that game, I guess, it's not the best. But it's pretty standard and very early for most reviewers to have, I'd hope. It's so much of a demo that Nintendo seriously should've given it away for free or have it preinstalled on consoles, at least kinda like Nintendo Land as an attractive deal for most people to get it with their Wii U back then~
I had my black one for 2 weeks but I just returned it due to it being a fingerprint magnet. I want to get the gray one but I dislike the gray dpad lol I cant win.
Edit: You can also take off that box with the tweezers & dongle from the carrying case lol So you can keep the oval triggers on the back while in the case.
These face buttons feel great. If they are not mechanical does it matter if they work and feel great?
I noticed that in some occasions rumble dont work at all like when u do plunge attack on totk or splatoon 3 when using special attack. It needs a lower setting than low for the rumble. When u play pokemon scarlet riding koraidon and u jump or glide the rumble goes off too loud. Also it needs turbo funtion on back buttons and the tool to remove abxy scratches them even when ur careful.
Turbo for back buttons? Back buttons are just remapping other buttons. Turbo for that would literally be the same thing as Turbo for the button you mapped to ut
Is there anything as good or better in this price segment for a PC controller that I should consider?
Binbok ultra
VK's channel did a tare down, you are 100% correct, these are in fact NOT mechanical buttons.
does this controller have on the fly turbo? like can I assign one button to turn turbo on and off with ease?
Yes, looks similar to 8Bitdo Ult 18:00
KK3 Max vs Vader 3 Pro. Which one?
Maybe its a dum question but idk where to find the answer. Can i use the dongle on nintendo switch dock and then just connect with dongle?
From what I've read, the dongle is only for PC mode
@@the_pentah00k58 ah i see thanks, i really scared of bluetooth mode beeing so useless with high input lag. Still cant decide buying this or not, but i really want that auto pilot gaming tho and it seems i cant find anywhere else
The Switch Pro mode gyro randomly activates in Switch games like Mario Odyssey. Tested 3 of these controllers on the latest firmware. Test gyro in Mario Odyssey with the controller in Switch Pro mode
Have you tried doing a firmware update? My controller won't turn on after updating it... I only used it once.
same
same here, and my controller didnt shutoff automatically after either
I manage to fix it. It didnt work through mac but it did on windows
I just wanna know if the face buttons will get stuck after a while like KK 2 Pro?
They won't. The KK2 Pro uses springs for its mechanics, while the KK3 uses membranes.
Dualsense can make sounds too. I heard tires squeak sound when burning out on crew motorfest. I muted the controller speaker and still heard it it was nuts
There are Types of Mechanical Switches, the Clicky, the Tactile and the Linear, if you own a Mechanical Keyboard, it's very likely you can even swap them depending on what you wanna do... Usually Clicky are for Typing, But Noisy, mostly used at home, Tactile are similar to membrane feeling, good for Typing and Gaming, But Quieter than clicky ones, mostly used at the Offices, and the Linear are mostly used for Gaming, Not Clicky and Smooth Travel (probably like the ones in the controller)... There are also colors related to the type and pushing force, and Optical ones without electrical contacts and hot swappable, but expensive. Most people only know about the "Classical Clicky Blue Switches", but there's a whole Universe (Market) around Mechanical Swiches...
You're absolutely right in the types of switches there are! (I spent 2 years reviewing keyboards on another channel lol) but this controller does not have mechanical switches. Gulikit even removed the graphics that stated "mechanical switches" from their website and marketing after this video released. It has membrane switches.
I bought one of these and the R1 bumper started squeaking after one session of elden ring. And Im not the only one that has had this problem.
VK has done a tear down and they aren't mechanical, and they've taken the claim off their website
Ha, knew it! Oh damn, you're right though, just checked their website and they've changed the graphic! Annoying though as I was really excited for mechanical switches.
@128KB Same here man, was holding off on getting other controllers for this one, lol. The rumble sounds are also a turn off.
mechanical swtich ≠ clicky switch
How does it stack up to the Mobapad Chitu?
I’d take the kk3 the monopod chitu is overrated in my opinion
The Chitu it's the best as a switch controller comparing it to the KK3, however, for PC I'd prefer the contrary
off topic does anybody know what I can’t find the no dead zone mode for my 8bitdo ultimate controller because I noticed my error for my sticks are at 17 to 10 and I just got the controller not to long ago
It’s in settings on the software
Still, its checked almost everything that I want, including the digital and analog trigger switcher. But this is not yet my ideal controller. i want it to have PlayStation d-pad placement and also can be used for ps3/ps4/ps5
I really liked the KK2 Pro, and will definitely try this KK3. I am not sure why Gulikit get a lot of criticsm, since they supply the hall effect sticks for 8bitdo. I know there is controversy over the mechanical buttons, but to be honest, they are labeled as 2nd generation mechanical buttons. Time will tell, if the buttons will be reliable. But it is definitely a refreshing design going against the grain of most other copy xbox/ps controllers. Keep up the great work Gulikit. Also, if it were produced in USA, or Europe would probably cost £100+ at least
it's miss print, i know it from another review
@@inovadeyeah, but still can believe people still going on about the non mechanical buttons - aren't 8BitDo controllers the same mushy buttons. It's not as if mechanical buttons last forever. KK2 and KK3 have way more features than 8bitDo Ultimate or the Bluetooth versions and it's the same price. Keep up the innovation Gulikit, it's all about giving more choices to the consumer at the end of the day. Otherwise we would be all stuck paying double the price for elite series 2 or similar controllers which are also not without their own issues.
@@dakzer55 bring down overpriced 1st party controller, give use better 3rd party controller!!!
i can't help to feel the last few year we had so many innovation cropping up, which is great thing. the golden year maybe??
can you assign macros to the back paddle buttons?
I'd be interested in that too.
Any thoughts or videos on the ps portal??
He does Nintendo switch content
New challenge run for _something_ just dropped: record ten minutes on the kk3 (or kk2 pro) and use that to get to the credits glitchless
In more genuine: thanks for the video. I'd already seen another one which talked about the buttons such that my brain actually just blocked out the "mechanical" in the marketing material -w-' But they _didn't_ mention how awful the rumble was, the way they described it they _liked_ the hd rumble? (low setting) So maybe you got a blorpus, but either way isn't a dealbreaker for me as I'm gonna be using it primarily for PC. It was for me, between this and the 8bitdo, and gyro + onboard customization is a huuuge plus to me, and I am movin from an xbox one s controller so part of the idea is that I'm not gonna be outside my comfort zone haha
If u could have 1 would it be this, the first party switch pro controller, or that mobapad chitu or whatever it’s called.
This over binbok ultra ultimate pro controller?
Yes
The gyro doesn't work (well ) on PC. For some reason it will only emulate right joystick movement, and it's broken. It just freaks out, it's unusable. I'm not the only one with this issue either. The joysticks also are slightly offset, if you try to use it as a mouse cursor, you'll see it drifts slightly. It needs a deadzone to not drift. The D-Pad also has very imprecise inputs, you press on the bottom, and it will sometimes also press right. The d-pad is worse than an xbox controllers d-pad.
I had the KK2 pro and it was honestly pretty cool, I liked the build quality, the features
but the f*cking left trigger sh*t itself on day one and I haven't been able to fix it since.
I'm kinda scared to buy the KK3 now.
rubbery material normally will melt and become sticky after a years either use it or not..
it is membrane, i've seen another review and they only rectify it there
I really wish this had a headphone jack.
While I love Xbox controller form factor, I don't know why I really don't like any gullikit controller. I prefer the designs of 8bitdo, nxyi, or mobapad. I'm still waiting for your review of the THUNDEROBOT G45 PRO.
These or the 8bitdo ultimate?
definitely these. the 8bitdo angle of the handles feels awful after a while
But..... Turbo on B doesnt turbo the assigned B backbutton, so you can assign B (example) to back and use non turbo on back and turbo on face button :)
That's a good point! That could prove useful but shame nonetheless there's not an option to do both!
@@128KB maybe in a firmware update , im hopefull :)
I know it sounds silly to some, but being able to just turn off gyro is a HUGE pls for me. I don't like gyro, and the event that I play a game that forces it, like Astral Chain for example, it's a lifesaver to be able to just remove it at a hardware level.
My fear is that my KK2's A button got stuck, and I hear this also happens with this.
I can't say rumble motors aren't fun, but violent shaking has injured babies. Save the children, switch it to low. Great, inciteful video on a controller I can't afford, but thanks for being real!
Love it, but these triggers take sooo long to activate
the mechanical switch in the buttons probably are like linear/tactile keyboard mechanical instead of a clicky switch (i got this from the fact that the actual button attachment thing has the same shape of the keycaps of a keyboard).... sad this controller hasn't been reviewed by a custom keyboard enthusiast that could have better clarified the issue. if someone wants more information on this feel free to ask (i litterally build custom keyboards as a second hustle so i know my fair share lol). sorry for my bad english but as you probably guessed it is not my first language.
btw my heart litterally skipped a beat at 09:45 because that is just simply not true lol
If you bought the first batch of kk3 yeah it's literally not mechanical buttons and they explained they used the remainings kk2 membrane buttons for the first batch of kk3
KK2 actually uses mechanical buttons. I have one and I disassembled the buttons once to get rid of some stickiness
I hated the rumble on this I honestly thought it was broken. This controller is sooo close yet so far. Oh and the dongle does not work on the switch mode. Plus having to double tap the mode button to switch modes is annoying. Why have a dedicated button and make me double tap it
I am pretty sure that this guy watched the VK's channel review :)
No disrespect but I don't know who VK is! I make a point to not watch anyone's review because otherwise that could sway my own opinion even subconsciously. Plus I usually get sent samples pre-release before anyone's videos are up!
It has terrible input latency in wireless mode . It measuered at 33ms 😮 bluetooth measured at 32ms and wired is great at 3ms . Very dissapointing tbh
that's can actually be a deal breaker.
Anybody experiencing their controller shutting off after 60 seconds after they had updated the firmware
I think it is a great controller i you don't like it i think you should give one of us.
Ok hd rumble test was kinda a bad test.
Official Nintendo ip is going to work perfectly with a Nintendo controller.
It's to do with the motors inside, the game is irrelevant. It's the same with other games I tested, this was the easiest to show on camera.
Why would you need Turbo on back buttons when the back buttons are just remappings of the buttons you can do Turbo on already lol? 😂 it's all good my guy I still love you. But ya know, I think you realized your mistake at the end when you were like, "I guess you could just assign it to the other buttons"... exactly!
Mechanical does not equal mouse switches exclusively. My keyboard uses mechanical switches (I know because I built it) and it doesn't sound like a mouse click. They are probably using linear mechanical switches (like in my keyboard) that do not have a "click" sound when pressed.
Yeah I’m pretty familiar with keyboard mechanical switches and I can confirm that they don’t feel like mouse clicks at all and by the looks of it (when he took off the button) it seems to be similar to a keyboard switch and it’s YELLOW which makes more sense
Nice video, I thought you were quite funny
I'd rather have four paddles than rumble which I turn off anyway because it's not really useful in fps games, quite the contrary imo.
Being mechanical doesn’t mean it’s clicky there are silent ones and the look of the switch when u lake off the button looks to be similar to a silent keyboard switch
Yes
... I'm still waiting for a gamepad with ABXY BAYX interchangeable LEDs letters when in Switch or XBox mode... :(
Physically swapping the buttons is unpractical.
this or the mobapad
Do you mean the Mobapad Chitu HD pro style controller? Or the Mobpad M6 S/HD joycons? Both are for different use cases but I use the Chitu HD as my main pro style controller and the Mobapad M6 HD as my main joy-cons!
the back button seems useless because u cant use it for macro neither turbo, so i think its not the best controller with macro feature like flydigi vader 3 pro
so your biggest disappointments are rumbles and a membrane buttons damn yall reviewers really be queefin over small things 😂😂
"This is not the game to be showing you gyro," then why are you showing it? Maybe a 2.5D platformer isn't the best showcase of what it could do?
Is this gyro working as a mouse input or joystick movements? Comments on its accuracy?
I find this controller useless , i only play one game Asphalt 9 on android platform , and the sticks is not Abel to steer all the way to the left or right ,,, compared to my sony controllers it feels like there is missing 10-15 % ,,absolutely useless
can someone confirm this??
