Recently I've been hearing multiple creators identifying patterns, particularly with the local branch on steamdb, that mimic those of axolot just before survival's release. I really mostly hope that scrap mechanic being put into 1.0 officially will stop axolot from excusing their lack of contact and updates, as well as minimizing their absolute butchering of mod support repeatedly
As someone who has played Scrap Mechanic since 2016, I feel that anyone who has any hope in Axolot just hasn’t been paying enough attention to know that they will disappoint again and again. The biggest issue I feel is the lack of communication, because in some cases that prevent a lot of issues with the player base. I’ll still hop on and play it every now and then, but I have no hope that the game will ever get another meaningful update… it’s crazy to think this game will be coming up on 10 years of development soon and practically no major features have been added besides Survival which itself was half baked. I really do enjoy what the game has today but I know it could be so much better.
I wish it was more like subnauticas release where they really communicated with the da base constantly and giving access to new beta testing and allowed the fan base to grow and become excited but right now I don’t get why they would release a major update (survival), provide another one then leave the game with no new content for two years, do they want their fan base do die? I’m just happy it hasn’t yet
Attack On Titan has around 90 episodes in 4 seasons...or 7 seasons depending on how you look at it. Season 1 Season 2 Season 3 Season 3 Part 2 Season 4 Season 4 Part 2 Season 4 Part 3 (which just has one episode named "the final chapters (part one)", so presumably there is a part 2, of the part 3, of season 4, of the anime)
I wish they would build the game in pieces. They keep showing us all these things they added, but yet we still don't have them in game? I understand not wanting to rush development, but if they released it at least we could aid in the development.
It's hard to believe that any developers will be so out of touch with the players that literally profit their game. Even if there were such devs, it seems impossible not to think about how this long waiting, broken promises and annoying teasers would affect anyone playing their game. From what I said, it seems like the most visible problem is the person writing devblogs and "contacts" the community on twitter. If they were more aware of the situation and context and didn't write in this "edgy" style, there would be a lot less people frustrated with the slow development and lack of communication. Not like there would be nobody still angry at the devs, but at least it would not amplify people's frustration by being so stubborn and clueless.
Although i think you took it a bit too rough i do agree with you on ur writing analysis 2 they’re giving teasers for a bunch of random things so you dont really know what to get hyped for instead of focussing on a single part creating much more satisfying hype and a much more clear view off what it will look like in the end As for now i barely know what to expect off the new chapter seen all these different mechanisms but not how they will affect eachother in what way for example the puzzle’s that got announced but not in detail or the scuffed boss in the underground mines and now this random schematic system I do think that ur review is correct and justified in the way the devs are handeling these updates
it feels like the update is mostly about destroying our work with these bots, but it does come with some sidegrades to try and make up for it? but if it's not going to be ready this year (they said they are going to try but i highly doubt it will happen)
Clarifying on red totebots, they are not that devastating as they may seem. I did test it with the truck that was shown in the gif and tell you what, they are very weak compared to a single small explosive that takes out half of truck's back.
My concerns are more around how many of them there are, their running speed, and how the mechanics of all this plays out when a player is playing survival....yknow for months, like it's supposed to be played. Even the devs couldn't properly test this just by comparing explosion sizes But I would say even if it was smaller, it wouldn't change much if several are running at your vehicle. A conversation like this in the comments section of a YT video is only portraying the idea that "the answers" can be received in a comments section. But properly explaining how to balance game mechanics is something that has to be done in tandem with the developers themselves. Just like learning with a private teacher is more beneficial than a teacher not dedicated to 1 student. It's impossible to know if the devs even understand the concepts of balancing gameplay; and based on what we've seen, they never learned it in dev school. I would never even try to say that what was shown in the gif is a valid test for gameplay. Way too short; and it was orchestrated. The vehicle was put there, there probably isn't a base with a craft bot or respawn bed. My point is that the devs have always been so shallow and never understood that players are people that (if the game design is GOOD), will LIVE the life of playing scrap mechanic. Meaning way more hours than a dev will ever, or could ever put in. That means gameplay mechanics for someone that's weeks into survival mode. If Axolot wants this to feel like a mobile game, than yea, don't put any thought into it. Personally I think that's such a low standard. Axolot tries SO HARD to make the game look visually pleasing so they obviously care....they just don't seem to know how to even properly care about their own game. Like with a lot of the stuff seen in devblogs... I have to wait until I see it firsthand, before I can say it was implemented good or not. Right now I can only state my concerns. Explosion size has no effect on why I'm concerned about it.
I feel the best thing for this game would be some bigger fish buying out Axolot and throwing as much resources as needed to get finished. It's not like they're not working on the game, it's that I feel we're not seeing as much progress as I feel we should have at this point. If they actually have other profitable ventures in the works that's fine, but other than them publishing Raft I don't see anything that would occupy their talent. If 00fant can implement a game changing addition to his mod every month what's their excuse? I know I know, they're working on more than adding a jetpack to the game, but throw us a bone man. Adding more challenges was great, how bout releasing that sticky wheel for creative? or any of the new blocks in creative. That wouldn't be hard and wouldn't detract anything from whatever story we'd supposedly be getting in survival.
Well, we'll see about that. 🤷♂️ I wonder about "how many layers" the shader will be okay with I think that was the invisible issue in the first place. Seems it is currently set to just 1 layer (for performance?). I also wonder just how complex this can get, or if it works with a normal map. And I don't think it will, but would it affect light going through it? (in code this would be like blocking out all the light with a shadow, then creating a special "spotlight" inside the shadow, to display the lensed light) like a magnifying lens shadow.. it looks different because the "shadow" of the glass is in another direction. Which would also play into the fire mechanics of the game pretty nicely too.... just saying
@@Durf I think it does work with a normal map, because you can see the effect of the indents of the tiled glass. I also doubt it'll affect light going through it.
@@purplepicklepizzapigproduction Idk, but I'm concerned that the other glass seems to lose it's detail when behind the glass (it seems to become a solid transparent color instead of having those ridges), but maybe that's just due to the gif being low quality
Something I noticed about the glass update is that you can see the glass in the back through the glass in the front. I dunno if that's 'cos it's a different colour or not...
They always where. I remember them promising survival mode for years saying "we will release it soon", they even hinted the official release in summer 2018!!! aaaand it was released early 2020....
(See this is the fault, Durf. They do not use the social-media, Twitter, to engage player about faults in the game. The only engagement was when Scrap-Man talked about wedges, the Wedge-Gange in which they created a whole new craft-bot for. I, you and other have spoken on the multi-player faults, and all the other faults in the game and they do not correspond. They post photo-albums and pat themselves on the back. You and other talented mod-creators are what's holding this game together and Axolot counts on it.)
I've resorted to only saying "get a discord" now There's nothing else worth attempting. That is the first step to any other step. It's a silly situation.. Axolot actively works against some mod makers they personally dislike (trust me I know all about it lol) And I would go as far as questioning the things Scrap Man says, simply because of how much coordination there is between him and the devs. He's an influencer after all. A valuable commodity for any dev looking to make their game seem popular, or any way they want it to seem. So just based on how Axolot is with the rest of their community and other TH-camrs; it's safe to assume there's an agreement between Scrap Man and Axolot To be clear, I think that is how some people make a living, and it's a fair thing to do for business (very biased advertising). It just doesn't seem to be working for Axolot at all 😅
You're enabling Axolot's attitude problem. They could grow up like any other game devs and stop being children about criticism. It's the internet, what exactly did they expect? Other devs, will somehow make their games, even putting up with WORSE than what axolot does, and still come out just fine. All you've done was convince me Axolot is weak. 100% Axolot isn't rising to the occasion, and 100% not anyone's fault. Players can tell the devs whatever they want, however they want, and if the devs CHOOSE to stop or do a worse job because of it, that makes them (and thus SM) a worse option for players looking to play games. Any other game doesn't have such issues, probably because the devs of that game aren't so tied to being judged by others, and instead doing a JOB. It is Axolot's job to develop the game. It is not our job to make them feel good about it, or to praise them, or to validate their feelings about any of it. Axolot does a terrible job? People will say that. Axolot choosing to do a worse job because of it? People will only point that out too. This "feedback loop" is called Axolot being insecure and scared. So what I have said "replace the game director", with someone that can do the job, has done the job, and will get the job done no matter what. They have the money to make it happen, and are choosing to play this out like you've described. Which to me indicates more manipulation than anything else. I don't believe any adult game dev is that pathetic that they can't work because of what someone said on the internet. What a terrible way to look at the devs. I don't want to think they are that pathetic. I believe they could easily rise to the occasion, but comments like these ENABLE such a childish attitude. They could grow up instead. And that's what I choose.
@@Durf (Wow, so they work AGAINST you guys! I thought there was something fishy about ScrapMan. Can you please elaborate more on this sabotage of you talented-moders who are keeping the game alive?)
I think that's for another video maybe; I prefer to focus on the things that matter, like making the game better. But, for the time I was in "multiplayer monday" videos with Scrap Man and his friends, I was treated very differently, and many of the ideas I suggested were outright refused. The reason? It required mods to play. One of the "limitations" was that the videos had to show vanilla gameplay And it took months of explaining that showing people "this is fun" doesn't mean vanilla or modded, it just means "fun". That's a better video than one that is fake. The frustrating part on top of this was, I was accused of making a suggestion for a video, solely for the purpose of trying to promote my mods. Which didn't matter, I could promote my mods anyway in separate videos. But when the devs are also pretending to be "mod makers" within their own community, it's not about mods, and it's not about "fun". The devs want to be in the position of getting praise from players. If I'm getting that, for my mods or videos, then get rid of me. It's a very very complicated story that spans years of time. For example, here are 2 mods that I created for the community: Day / night cycle mod (before survival mode was made, I created this in 0.3): th-cam.com/video/iJa465JsM6o/w-d-xo.html Tone generator in Modpack (0.3.5 - Feb 2019): th-cam.com/video/ZSkBpMaq5aU/w-d-xo.html Both of these mods were released the day the video was published. The day after, the mods were no longer working for anyone. A game update was pushed immediately after these mods were released (which anyone can verify on steamdb, all the times SM was updated) And the game updates broke those mods. Yes I tried to talk to Axolot about it, back then, and afterwards too. No, Axolot never acknowledged they did anything wrong, and never made any attempt to correct these issues. This is part of a larger story about how Axolot never liked me to begin with. Whatever I create for the game, I'm not allowed to be the one that made it. My ideas are shut down and stolen by others. Even more nonsense, the devs helped to facilitate Technologicnick with reuploading my Modpack, as the Modpack Continuation, without any permission to do so (violating the steam workshop agreements). These devs really just hate me specifically. I've done nothing but try to help this game and focus on its community (not its devs) Seriously when you try listing all the things I've done involving this game, and try to categorize them as "good" or "bad" it makes the devs' hate boner really clear. When a dev has a personal issue, well... for so many reasons that's just childish and unprofessional But I think this all stems from a mod maker doing something "amazing", which causes an inferiority complex in Axolot. They feel like their boob size is small next to the large chest I just presented the community. And so get angry at me like I did something wrong, even if I didn't do anything but to just be myself. This happens all the time. And it probably doesn't help that I have a social media following, which I then make criticisms of the game that Axolot made (so the person with bigger boobs is talking about how the boob size is smaller on Axolot... I can understand how this will only make them feel worse) But Axolot's insecurities are not my problem, and don't magically justify the actions that Axolot willingly chose to take against their own community. Doesn't matter which way you try to look at it; Axolot actually committed crimes. I can legally press criminal charges against Axolot Games in both Sweden and Canada. Whether intentional or not, Axolot simply isn't legally allowed to run their community in this way. But perhaps worse than legal issues... a child can never run a successful business. Too much ice cream and cookie and candy costs. My point is that all this is what Axolot is showing the business world. Then, we have even spicier things, like the time Axolot's game director tried to extort me over emails for the things I didn't even say on my videos and live streams. Actually trying to twist my arm, trying to manipulate what I show on my own YT channel, so that it can better benefit themselves. And even crazier is in those emails, Kacper (the game director), tries to portray an attitude that Axolot are the ones being professional, and that my emails were unprofessional Except, when a piece of shit talks to you... do you respond with "yes my king"?, no, you treat it like a piece of shit. Axolot, has no concept of respect for their own community, and is a mental case that makes me consider they aren't not real developers. Remember that one of the people from Axolot used to work at Mojang on Minecraft. I suspect this is something like a child of a game developer who worked at a very successful project; and that went to the child's ego. So when they start "axolot games", they think that because of the "proven success" of minecraft, there is literally 0% chance of failure with their own game's development and it will be just as successful if not more. This mental attitude makes sense, especially when you see the response to criticism: trying to hide it all, and pretending that the game's success depends 100% on the words used on social media. Except what happened to the confidence then? Just in general, the attitude from Axolot is that of an entitled child. They personally don't like a mod, so they destroy it by force with a game update. It's their game, they can do what they want. They personally don't like a person? Easy, just never promote anything they make on the workshop, and even hide it (shadow ban) They personally want to be worshipped by their players? And they see mod makers are getting support? Pretend to be mod makers themselves. What? Another mod maker is more popular? Start defaming and slandering change the format of mod support so it benefits the devs pretending to be mod makers, but not real mod makers. In the end, it IS Axolot's game, and they can do whatever they want. But the game TYPE is one surrounded around user generated content (UGC). Out of all the UGC games available for people to choose from... NONE of them are so limiting to creativity like Scrap Mechanic is. And it's only because of the devs attitude. The game is being made for them, not for us. They are the ones playing the game called "the SM community"...the game is there just to distract us. I don't care what connections Kacper has. Breaking international law is just a career-ending mistake for any game dev.
LOL my very long comment ☝️ Anyway, here's another demo video for the Tone Generator th-cam.com/video/syTUnNTOMCI/w-d-xo.html Tone generator was supposed to be improving upon the music of scrap mechanic, and giving music lovers and opportunity to get into the game (just like train builders are really into the game) The biggest problem was note range. The vanilla totebots have a very short range of notes, and so that means that some songs are impossible to play, or sound bad because you have to change instruments. The tone generator was a part that supported ALL the notes possible. There were 2 ways to use it: input a number for the note (musical), or input a number for the frequency of sound in Hertz (science, so 40 hz to 40,000 hz, just like human hearing) And in the beginning it was created with some very simple instruments: sine wave, square, triangle, sawtooth wave patterns So exactly the sounds that old cell phones and arcade machines and game boy used to use. This brings the format MIDI into scrap mechanic, and number logic (number logic + music) My future plans for this part was to add more instrument types besides just beeps and boops. It is possible to recreate the original totebot head sounds in the full range of frequencies It is possible to add sounds like instruments, guitar, trumpet, violin, etc It is possible to add custom sounds too, like fart noise, alarm noise, tornado siren And all of that would be controllable with logic! Choose the tone, volume, instrument, etc This is not only for great customizability (players can build more ideas, and add sounds to their idea! Fog horn sound? it's AVAILABLE!) But also players can program musical sequences like I showed in the video (using the memory panels and number logic...an entire orchestra can be programmed and saved as a blueprint) This is just 1 way, I tried to increase the size of the SM community, by appealing to music lovers. Not everyone likes to make music. Not everyone likes to listen to music. But same with trains. Not everyone likes to build trains or see so many trains on the workshop. So is SM just for train people? or for everyone? I thought more people is better than less people. There is more to life than trains...or music. There are over 3 dozen more "ways" I wanted to try to increase the community by creating interest in the game. But Axolot is very much a cry baby about introducing ideas that aren't their own. You see, this tone generator was TOO good. Meaning it would completely replace the vanilla totebot heads. Meaning all players would just move over to smart music and stop making vanilla music. The devs took offense to that / felt the need to keep the usefulness of their vanilla parts (and so destroyed the custom sound mods; impossible to replace vanilla now) The problem is always the same. Axolot doesn't understand that THEY could have made the better solution, and it could have been vanilla. The vanilla game could have been that great. Instead...Axolot's stubbornness to feel like they did something instead of a mod maker doing something They are forcing all players to use a worse version of the game Music lovers are not interested in picking up the game now, because there aren't options for them to express themselves Same with so many other types of players. Heck, even train lovers...there are better train games to play than one that limits what you're allowed to do.
This comment inspired something.. a new game mechanic?: a fake player (part or tool or something, creates a hologram or is a tracking part like the tracker/orient in the modpack) Something a player can craft and later deploy in a time of need to send bots away to the fake target However, I am apprehensive to mention any ideas I have for the game.. It's more worthwhile to see all the enemies in action before trying to say "this is a good addition to the gameplay mechanics." (I was thinking "feedback loop"...kinda makes sense for robots with a "bad firmware update"...and that's why they "target" a mechanic...so a gameplay mechanic that can exploit that software bug in the player's favor [what is the story of this game?!] - I wasn't at all thinking about robots being dizzy lol) Interesting perspective though! Thanks for sharing! I hadn't considered that when making this video 👍
20:57 I'm not sure if there's enough exceptions to break the general rule you're proposing but there are many and some really big ones. For example people buy Zachtronics' games purely because they are made by Zachtronics. And while people don't necessarily buy Satisfactory based on the developer, players really love and care about them. And now that I mentioned it, I realized Axolot could and should really write some notes on how Jace, Snooty and the rest of Coffee Stain Studios handle their community. I'm not sure if that can be directly copied mostly due to much slower update cycle of Scrap Mechanics, but there are some things that they should. Transparency being one of them. EDIT: Timestamp
Trying to extort TH-camrs over email doesn't help either. (they don't like how I criticize) Kacper, Axolot Games' "game director", really set the standard for what kind of devs these guys are. It's so far beyond what's normal. You cannot compare them to any other devs. Axolot is simply not doing what they should be doing. Other devs are. It's as simple as that. Doesn't even matter if the game is awesome, because this is starting to go into the negative effects. Where people will not support the game simply because of who made it. I was really going easy on Axolot with that part by not pointing out just how bad Axolot is. But drama and the awful things they do aside, just focusing on the task of developing a game...they still aren't doing it. Whatever you think of Axolot, they are not rising up to the occasion. Compare sasifactory devs: they have a discord, push updates, don't patronize their community.... Quite frankly I'm not in the satisfactory community too much but even I know it's a significantly better relationship between devs and players. Something called respect for one another. The difference between a sandwich shop you love to go to instead of the one with a jerk making your food. And just to really put things into perspective... satisfactory devs aren't going around starting drama, trying to manipulate and control their own player base, mod makers, and youtubers. Bad game development; bad public relations; bad game design; bad time management.....should I really go on? It's like they haven't done even one thing like a real game dev would do. 100% take notes from good devs... but will they even look at the notes? It's more than a skill issue. It's an attitude problem that led to this skill issue in the first place. Entitled.
@@Durf I forgot the timestamp for context, but you appear to have caught on regardless. Knowing your dispositions towards the devs, I was genuinely surprised how easy you went for them in this video. I'm not the type of people partaking in any kind of community groups. I'm just following some of them from the sidelines, but even then I know almost everything that happens within Satisfactory community, but quite literally nothing outside of their Steam posts on Axolot Games. That tells quite alot of their reach and transparency. And respect as you mentioned. Especially respect. I don't remember you giving this much context in your earliers rants on why you think of Axolot as you do, and I'm not modder either so I don't have that info channel either. But if I didn't agree with you before, I do agree after this comment of yours. And got to say.. Listening you to rant is somehow very soothing. I dunno why.
Thanks for being awesome :) It's weird having to deal with extra drama and well that's why I try to keep my criticisms focused on things that matter and can easily be changed. But there will always be that one person rushing in to say I'm somehow the one starting drama just by criticizing. And in relation to how I would have a lot of motive for hate (because yea the devs definitely have been jerks lol), people can easily buy this idea; that my criticisms are not based on anything real and it's somehow just a feud between me and the devs. I appreciate that you heard what I was saying in the midst of all the nonsense; others just rush to take sides. I really do just think this is all silly.
Aye man Im a sound designer looking for work I'm dedicated to my craft I like the take tho I agree with a lot of what u say. Better yet just do u and keep up witb great work man it looks like it's coming out dope
Wait how don't you notice the spudgun shooting at red topebot how the hell didn't notice of course it going to explode far away because is getting shot like how is so big in screen
at this rate theyd be better off just adding a hostile wongle to the game a wheel on a stick is still the greatest thing to come out of this game and the devs have spent years trying to add cool enemies
Indeed. It feels like they were kinda tossed in without regard for the gameplay I mean I feel like the tapebots are STILL overpowered... so what can we expect 😅 But maybe after they're all in the game, then we as players can figure out what to suggest for changes 😉 Maybe the difficulty setting in survival will improve and offer a range of options for everyone
You are absolutely right in what you are saying. These dev blogs have absolutely no added value for us players. Is and remains a stalling tactic. The mass of players have already jumped off and play other games. Because absolutely nothing comes from Axolot! And that for years! If there was a prize for the worst game developer, Axolot would definitely deserve it. This is no way to treat your customers! It's not even worth making any content for this game anymore, in the form of streams or videos, which would actually boost sales. You can also see on Twitch and co, that as good as no one streams or watches Scrap Mechanic. That already shows everything. Even modding is not really worth it anymore. I myself have also stopped, because I do not know what will come, and I also do not want to start again after another change of the complete folder structure, everything from scratch to start again with Chapter 2.^^ I do not play it anymore. Because without content from Axolot it becomes boring and monotonous. And this laggy multiplayer performance sucks the most. And quite honestly. I am of the opinion that Axolot is simply lazy. When you see the speed at which certain modders release items and mods, including LUA scripts, nobody can tell me that Axolot works on Scrap Mechanic every day. Even if a single person manages to change an entire game in a very short time.
I really wish the davs would be more clear with the community. I feel the game has lost so much potential due to a mix of a lack of communication and lack of content.
They could distract us all from a lack of content if they just communicsted... more. Like at all. Not even showing us progress, just... anything. The lack of communicstion is what makes me feel like this is abandonware in all but name only.
(Listen, Axolot could care LESS. Months between communications, photo-albums, and broken promises. It's been 12-years. They should stick to publishing, like they did with Raft.)
You just love to push my buttons 😜 ... you know I never counted how many times I told people to click the button the video outro... even or odd, now I have to know!
I would still be playing survival mode if it the devs didn't randomly change when and how resources respawned, or the "balance" of everything. The first survival release was more playable than the most recent survival update. But this was intentional, because the devs wanted players to stop their existing survival game, and start a new save file (because the devs were embarrassed by how little content there was; they thought players cared about that more than being able to play it for months straight) That didn't work though. All it did was make people stop playing their first save file, but then never start a second one. The reason why the first one was being played was taken away by force, by the devs. Probably one of the dumbest things for any dev to do...but this is literally the reason why there's so little attention on survival mode, right now. Right now, I would still be playing with my first survival save file, because that's how much fun I was having building a megafarm. Take away that fun, and I don't want to start another save file under the risk of having what I started taken away again. These devs are bonkers. Trust me, would love to play survival mode. So why the updates that push me away from it?
I think that the extreme speed of the blue totebot is to counteract how easy it is to avoid underwater edit: after finishing the video, i have some things to say. not much tho. axolot is starting to follow an unfortunate trend of posting little to no social updates. i feel like the concept of challenges or weekly build themes similar to space engineers or even trailmakes could help players engage a little more and not completely get bored of the game. also, i really feel like they should at least release a test branch with the finished features of chapter 2. this will also fix that boredom issue. maybe even bite sized updates could solve this issue, rather than dropping the "behemoth of an update". why not just finish and release the features every month or so?? damn that was a lot more than i thought it was gonna be lol
3 month since this comment, still no DB, Or update...
4:43 he exploded before he reached the player because he was shot and shooting an explosive multiple times makes it explode faster.

In competent hands this game cpuldve been an actual minecraft killer. But they seem to have made every wrong decision.
The red tote bot exploded at a different distance because of it being shot at, I assume causing it to explode before it got close
This would be my guess too, but then it should just immediately explode like normal explosives instead of using that suicide animation.
If they released chapter 2 in 3 or 4 diffrent parts, its just re-branding the outfit update problem.
Don't even get me started on "Attack On Titan" 😤
Attack On Titan has around 90 episodes in 4 seasons...or 7 seasons depending on how you look at it.
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 3 Part 2
Season 4
Season 4 Part 2
Season 4 Part 3 (which just has one episode named "the final chapters (part one)", so presumably there is a part 2, of the part 3, of season 4, of the anime)
Although i think you took it a bit too rough i do agree with you on ur writing analysis 2 they’re giving teasers for a bunch of random things so you dont really know what to get hyped for instead of focussing on a single part creating much more satisfying hype and a much more clear view off what it will look like in the end
As for now i barely know what to expect off the new chapter seen all these different mechanisms but not how they will affect eachother in what way for example the puzzle’s that got announced but not in detail or the scuffed boss in the underground mines and now this random schematic system
I do think that ur review is correct and justified in the way the devs are handeling these updates
I feel this is the analysis we've all been waiting for ;)
(A promise is good, until it's not!)
it feels like the update is mostly about destroying our work with these bots, but it does come with some sidegrades to try and make up for it?
but if it's not going to be ready this year (they said they are going to try but i highly doubt it will happen)
Even the devs couldn't properly test this just by comparing explosion sizes
But I would say even if it was smaller, it wouldn't change much if several are running at your vehicle.
Blue boi is baby. He may be a bit confused, but he's got the spirit.
with glass now having a refractive effect, I think glass behind other glass won't be nearly invisible anymore
Well, we'll see about that. 🤷♂️ I wonder about "how many layers" the shader will be okay with
I think that was the invisible issue in the first place. Seems it is currently set to just 1 layer (for performance?).
I also wonder just how complex this can get, or if it works with a normal map.
And I don't think it will, but would it affect light going through it?
(in code this would be like blocking out all the light with a shadow, then creating a special "spotlight" inside the shadow, to display the lensed light)
like a magnifying lens shadow.. it looks different because the "shadow" of the glass is in another direction.
Durf, will you play Plasma again, now that it's been released?
Yes
I've resorted to only saying "get a discord" now
There's nothing else worth attempting. That is the first step to any other step.
It's a silly situation.. Axolot actively works against some mod makers they personally dislike (trust me I know all about it lol)
And I would go as far as questioning the things Scrap Man says, simply because of how much coordination there is between him and the devs.
He's an influencer after all. A valuable commodity for any dev looking to make their game seem popular, or any way they want it to seem.
So just based on how Axolot is with the rest of their community and other TH-camrs; it's safe to assume there's an agreement between Scrap Man and Axolot
To be clear, I think that is how some people make a living, and it's a fair thing to do for business (very biased advertising).
But, for the time I was in "multiplayer monday" videos with Scrap Man and his friends,
I was treated very differently, and many of the ideas I suggested were outright refused. The reason? It required mods to play.
One of the "limitations" was that the videos had to show vanilla gameplay
And it took months of explaining that showing people "this is fun" doesn't mean vanilla or modded, it just means "fun".
For example, here are 2 mods that I created for the community:
Day / night cycle mod (before survival mode was made, I created this in 0.3): th-cam.com/video/iJa465JsM6o/w-d-xo.html
Tone generator in Modpack (0.3.5 - Feb 2019): th-cam.com/video/ZSkBpMaq5aU/w-d-xo.html
Both of these mods were released the day the video was published.
The day after, the mods were no longer working for anyone.
A game update was pushed immediately after these mods were released (which anyone can verify on steamdb, all the times SM was updated)
And the game updates broke those mods.
I've done nothing but try to help this game and focus on its community (not its devs)
Seriously when you try listing all the things I've done involving this game, and try to categorize them as "good" or "bad"
it makes the devs' hate boner really clear.
When a dev has a personal issue, well... for so many reasons that's just childish and unprofessional
But I think this all stems from a mod maker doing something "amazing", which causes an inferiority complex in Axolot.
They feel like their boob size is small next to the large chest I just presented the community.
And so get angry at me like I did something wrong, even if I didn't do anything but to just be myself. This happens all the time.
And it probably doesn't help that I have a social media following, which I then make criticisms of the game that Axolot made
(so the person with bigger boobs is talking about how the boob size is smaller on Axolot... I can understand how this will only make them feel worse)
But Axolot's insecurities are not my problem, and don't magically justify the actions that Axolot willingly chose to take against their own community.
And even crazier is in those emails, Kacper (the game director), tries to portray an attitude that Axolot are the ones being professional, and that my emails were unprofessional
Except, when a piece of shit talks to you... do you respond with "yes my king"?, no, you treat it like a piece of shit.
Easy, just never promote anything they make on the workshop, and even hide it (shadow ban)
They personally want to be worshipped by their players? And they see mod makers are getting support? Pretend to be mod makers themselves.
What? Another mod maker is more popular? Start defaming and slandering
change the format of mod support so it benefits the devs pretending to be mod makers, but not real mod makers.
LOL my very long comment ☝️
Anyway, here's another demo video for the Tone Generator th-cam.com/video/syTUnNTOMCI/w-d-xo.html
Tone generator was supposed to be improving upon the music of scrap mechanic, and giving music lovers and opportunity to get into the game (just like train builders are really into the game)
The biggest problem was note range.
The vanilla totebots have a very short range of notes, and so that means that some songs are impossible to play, or sound bad because you have to change instruments.
The tone generator was a part that supported ALL the notes possible.
There were 2 ways to use it: input a number for the note (musical), or input a number for the frequency of sound in Hertz (science, so 40 hz to 40,000 hz, just like human hearing)
And in the beginning it was created with some very simple instruments: sine wave, square, triangle, sawtooth wave patterns
So exactly the sounds that old cell phones and arcade machines and game boy used to use.
This brings the format MIDI into scrap mechanic, and number logic (number logic + music)
My future plans for this part was to add more instrument types besides just beeps and boops.
It is possible to recreate the original totebot head sounds in the full range of frequencies
It is possible to add sounds like instruments, guitar, trumpet, violin, etc
It is possible to add custom sounds too, like fart noise, alarm noise, tornado siren
And all of that would be controllable with logic! Choose the tone, volume, instrument, etc
This is not only for great customizability (players can build more ideas, and add sounds to their idea! Fog horn sound? it's AVAILABLE!)
But also players can program musical sequences like I showed in the video (using the memory panels and number logic...an entire orchestra can be programmed and saved as a blueprint)
This is just 1 way, I tried to increase the size of the SM community, by appealing to music lovers.
The devs took offense to that / felt the need to keep the usefulness of their vanilla parts (and so destroyed the custom sound mods; impossible to replace vanilla now)
The problem is always the same.
Axolot doesn't understand that THEY could have made the better solution, and it could have been vanilla. The vanilla game could have been that great.
Instead...Axolot's stubbornness to feel like they did something instead of a mod maker doing something
They are forcing all players to use a worse version of the game
Music lovers are not interested in picking up the game now, because there aren't options for them to express themselves
Same with so many other types of players. Heck, even train lovers...there are better train games to play than one that limits what you're allowed to do.
Robots *can* in fact get dissy if they get into a feedback loop
This comment inspired something.. a new game mechanic?:
a fake player (part or tool or something, creates a hologram or is a tracking part like the tracker/orient in the modpack)
Something a player can craft and later deploy in a time of need to send bots away to the fake target
However, I am apprehensive to mention any ideas I have for the game..
It's more worthwhile to see all the enemies in action before trying to say "this is a good addition to the gameplay mechanics."
(I was thinking "feedback loop"...kinda makes sense for robots with a "bad firmware update"...and that's why they "target" a mechanic...so a gameplay mechanic that can exploit that software bug in the player's favor [what is the story of this game?!] - I wasn't at all thinking about robots being dizzy lol)
Interesting perspective though!
(they don't like how I criticize)
Kacper, Axolot Games' "game director", really set the standard for what kind of devs these guys are.
Thanks for being awesome :)
It's weird having to deal with extra drama and well that's why I try to keep my criticisms focused on things that matter and can easily be changed.
But there will always be that one person rushing in to say I'm somehow the one starting drama just by criticizing.
And in relation to how I would have a lot of motive for hate (because yea the devs definitely have been jerks lol),
people can easily buy this idea; that my criticisms are not based on anything real and it's somehow just a feud between me and the devs.
The Red Totebot Exploded From Afar Because The Player "Killed" Him
at this rate theyd be better off just adding a hostile wongle to the game
a wheel on a stick is still the greatest thing to come out of this game and the devs have spent years trying to add cool enemies
I don't won't to wait 2 month for a outfit devblog. With ❤
I feel like these new bots are kinda overpowered
Indeed. It feels like they were kinda tossed in without regard for the gameplay
I mean I feel like the tapebots are STILL overpowered... so what can we expect 😅
But maybe after they're all in the game, then we as players can figure out what to suggest for changes 😉
Maybe the difficulty setting in survival will improve and offer a range of options for everyone
They are not, they will probably dont Spawn everywhere.
And if you Think bots are too hard there is a easy doficulty mod
This is how most people feel that still remember scrap mechanic exists.
Always a good day when we get a new devblog.
Plasma is come out Durf.
A Red Totebot AWW MAN
Don’t they usually have some sort of invincibility when they show off this stuff?
they nerfed tapebots btw at least on my side they do only ~28 damage
I really wish the davs would be more clear with the community. I feel the game has lost so much potential due to a mix of a lack of communication and lack of content.
They could distract us all from a lack of content if they just communicsted... more. Like at all. Not even showing us progress, just... anything. The lack of communicstion is what makes me feel like this is abandonware in all but name only.
This is both Devlog review and rant in one
35:52 that’s what happens when you run out of brain juice
(Listen, Axolot could care LESS. Months between communications, photo-albums, and broken promises. It's been 12-years. They should stick to publishing, like they did with Raft.)
It not been 12 years its been 7 😅
plasma just came out
I really kinda like the end music and how it is synced with the music, but sadly, I'm already subscribed, so i'm not gonna click the button
You could click it twice you know 😏
@@Durf I could, but what if i accidentally click it three times?
You just love to push my buttons 😜
... you know I never counted how many times I told people to click the button the video outro...
even or odd, now I have to know!
these bot and new updates are amazing so just play more survill it will be amazing....
amazing
I would still be playing survival mode if it the devs didn't randomly change when and how resources respawned, or the "balance" of everything.
The first survival release was more playable than the most recent survival update.
But this was intentional, because the devs wanted players to stop their existing survival game, and start a new save file (because the devs were embarrassed by how little content there was; they thought players cared about that more than being able to play it for months straight)
That didn't work though.
@@Durfthey neefed resource respawn ? Okay that explain everything....
i agree
cool
I think that the extreme speed of the blue totebot is to counteract how easy it is to avoid underwater
edit: after finishing the video, i have some things to say. not much tho.
axolot is starting to follow an unfortunate trend of posting little to no social updates. i feel like the concept of challenges or weekly build themes similar to
space engineers or even trailmakes could help players engage a little more and not completely get bored of the game.
also, i really feel like they should at least release a test branch with the finished features of chapter 2. this will also fix that boredom issue.
maybe even bite sized updates could solve this issue, rather than dropping the "behemoth of an update". why not just finish and release the features every month or so??
damn that was a lot more than i thought it was gonna be lol
Yea, what is "early access" anyway? Seems more like a publishing tool than what the words mean.
haha
