Not hard to rebuild, however, keep in mind that this riveted bolt is hard to rethread. The best solution would be to have a die to rethread the damaged part, something I don’t have.
Interested in bike parts and accessories. Especially quality made parts. Enjoy history of cycling too! This is what I like to bring to my videos and to share my slim knowledge with you.

    Excellent!
It was a tremendous help in repairing mine.
Of note, aside from cleaning and lubricant, the pawl was worn down at an angle and would not engage the last 4 steps. The pawl on the 3 shifter is almost the same and it works in the 8.

I had a similar issue, except the tip of the pawl was chipped and not engaging the last 4 steps also. I was able to file the chipped area flat, then using a dremel with a small grinding stone I ground down enough of the curved concaved area to allow the pawl to engage again.
Thanks ATBOY for the video. I couldn't have fixed it with out it.

Thank you! This video just saved my shifter. The old grease lubricant turned into glue and the shifts were skipping towards the low gears (shifting up). I cleaned and lubed everything with your help. Now it works perfectly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! Have to share this story...and a tip for others who might find this video and encounter the problem I had dealing with those tiny springs.
After ~6 hours of painstaking, delicate, frustrating work, my XT M739 shifter is working, back together & installed on the bike, THANKS TO THIS VIDEO!
Anyway ... yesterday, I’m working my way through your video, nearing the end. Got to the part where I had to re-insert these springs into the shifter body. They say if you think about something, it’ll happen. I thought to myself, “if one of these drops onto the shop floor, I’ll never find it.”
Sure enough, a few moments later, the top spring ejected itself, ricocheting off my left cheek just below my eye, over my shoulder, into the expanse of my shop.
My heart LITERALLY sank.😔It was dinner time, I lost my appetite. Started to plan to list the remnants of the shifter on eBay “for parts or not working.” No way I’d find that tiny spring. NO WAY.
Decided to look anyway. Combed every inch of the shop on my hands & knees where I thought it might have landed. Nope. Swept the floor into a nice pile of dirt & proceeded to sift through it, with my finger, searching. Nope. Scooped that dirt into the trash can & started cleaning up, putting tools away, I was done.
I decided to take one more look. Again, I scoured the shop floor on my hands & knees. I was all the way in the back of the shop, near the wall. THERE IT WAS! Another inch & it would have rolled under a shelf, never to be seen again. Somehow, it hadn’t. I was so relieved. I put it with the rest of the parts so I could try again in the morning.
Thinking about what happened, & how to prevent it, I realized I could put some through the spring, like a safety cable. Worked great! I ended up taking the shifter apart & putting it back together 3 more times, & each time, the thread worked as intended. Once the spring was in place, I carefully pulled the thread out.
So, if you ever need to rehab a shifter like this, have some thread handy!🤣

Kevin I’ve done this many of times with shifters, sometimes having to wait days before restarting. One time, it landed in a plant pot, only to find it when I was watering the plants. Glad the video helped.

@@atboy4342 By the way, the shift indicator is no longer working. Aren’t the shifter pod and the indicator connected somehow? I didn’t see any reference to that in your video. Thanks for any input!

@@KevinJarrett Theres a small nib/nob on the dial indicator arm. This slots into a hole on the opposite side of the lever of the mecanism, from what I can recall. Usually it’s the turning cam. Simply need to remove the mec unit and install. It’s also possible the part metal part that pulls the cable nob is stuck since it’s moving inside.

@@KevinJarrett You can alternatively remove the dial indicator unit and check from there. Haven’t got these anymore so can’t physically check.

@@atboy4342 Thanks, yes, my plan is/was to remove the dial indicator and investigate. I had a similar STX-RC shifter's indicator apart the other day and noticed the cam and pin setup. Was a PITA to reconnect, eventually gave up. Wondering if this will be the same. Appreciate the replies, and again, the excellent video.
