➡️ After hearing these sisters for the first time a few months ago with "Dust To Dust", I really wanted to see ‪@TheWarning‬ kick into a higher gear that I KNEW they were capable of. You guys understood the assignment and recommended that I check out "EVOLVE", live from the 2023 VMAs. I did not expect what I saw, and I'm so glad to see them unleash some serious power! In this video I hear "Evolve" for the very first time, which is from their latest album "Error". I discuss their stage presence, some tips on bettering your OWN stage presence, Ale's bass playing, and a breakdown of the song's chord progressions. I also offer some insight on the music theory behind their effective transitions by using chromaticism and diminished arpeggios. I'VE BEEN WARNED!

You need to listen to this young 3-sister band's TEN year history and THREE studio albums before the oldest sister was 23 to understand how far and wide this band has come since that legendary cover of Enter Sandman in 2014 when they were little kids -- the one that Metallica noticed before inviting them to reinvent Enter Sandman again as a contribution to their 30th Anniversary Black Album release.

As her sisters have said, it is sometimes a bit intimidating to play with Ale, because she is demanding, precise and very rarely makes mistakes. By the way, Ale also gets to sing as the lead vocal, but she doesn't like to do it. She only does it when Dany needs to give her voice a rest. That's why at TWA we say that watching Ale sing is like seeing a unicorn, something unique that rarely happens.

Here is the thing. There isn’t another example of a Warning song just like that, because they don’t write the same song over and over. Every album, every song has its own life and feeling. You are just as likely to find a serious bit of storytelling, or a ballad, as you are to follow up with a high tempo rocker. They can Warn you about the perils of tech addiction, or bemoan the breakdown of the family unit with a song about domestic violence. These sisters are every bit as into the lyrics of their songs, as they are the composition. My best advice would be to dig in, and enjoy the truly diverse and powerful catalogue. 🤘🏻🤟🏻

I love the Warning, but there are very similar songs to Evolve. The entire Mayday EP has a very similar sound across all of it, which is fine, because it makes up a good chunk of their absolute best work, but they do have similar songs. Like, I'm sure there are people that love Evolve but don't like More or 21CB and vice versa, but there's no way in hell you can love Evolve and not also love Z, Disciple, Animosity, Choke or Martirio (unless you truly hate Spanish lyrics).

I love More, it's not my favorite, but I'm glad that was their other VMA song because it shows just how hard that song goes live. The VMA live track really makes the studio track obsolete.

Watched an interview with this band and they said that after they got back home from making this album they had to relearn to play not as individuals but as a band and that is what they did during the Pandemic. They became super tight as a group and they now play off of each each other! Super tight, super fun and endless energy this is what you get from this group of young ladies.

this was such a huge and powerful exhibition they gave with the short time they were given... they performed two songs, *More* (done first) and this one, *Evolve* which is certainly a fan favorite... Pau, the drummer, came up with *Evolve* after watching a documentary about evolution and gene manipulation... this isn't the first time she has drawn inspiration from a TV show or movie, either... i understand that MTV is still looking for their roof LOL
watch Pau closely... you can see her preparing herself, taking a deep breath, shaking her head, and firing her "Scream of Evolution" toward the heavens releasing all of her frustrations and pain so she can *Evolve* and grow past them 😜... she has described it in similar fashion and brings it for real each and every time they present this hard rocking power ballad in concert or live sessions...
Pau has also stated that playing here on this stage was a very surreal moment... the stage was very much like the stage in the game Rock Band... i can easily see that they might have felt as if they had been transported into the game... i'm sure they imagined similar when they were playing the game as children and just beginning to find their path in life...
Fun Fact: Pau has three screams/yells that she does... the first, most well known, one in *Evolve* , one in *Z* , and the other in *Hunter* ...

As others have said, The Warning is not a one-trick band. All can sing lead, although Ale (Ah-leh) prefers to not be in the spotlight, so she only sings lead when Dany's voice is tired. They draw from a wide variety of inspirations and no two songs sound the same. Pau (POW! like the sounds she makes) sings lead about 20% of the time (10 songs of their 50ish current catalog.) They have a signature sound, which makes people wonder why a three piece band sounds like four or more and the answer is their arrangements where no instrument is just playing along. Normally they play to a click-track, but, at the MTV show, there were technical difficulties and no click-track. They have written all their music so if all the backing technology fails, they can still perform the full song. They can all do the grit in their voice, but can also do beautifully lyrical voices. In their 2021 Enter Sandman OMV, Dany sings with Alessia Cara and matches her pop sound in the beginning. In that same OMV, Pau and Ale sing some haunting beautiful harmonies. Or you could listen to Disciple or Revenant from the Teatro Metropolitan concert. I think they are best when all three sing together.
Also, fans of The Warning are called The Warning Army (TWA) and are already here. You have been Warned!

the advice about stage presence you start giving at 6:55 is genuinely so huge. I just recently joined a band and we're hoping to start gigging soon, and it will be my first time playing in public like that, and I'm definitely going to try to keep "you gotta be a satirical version of yourself" and "if it feels a little silly, it's just right" in mind when I'm up on stage

I’m so glad that part resonated with you. It’s so true. It’s acting, and it’s entertainment. Big body movements, focus on making sure the headstock moves up and down a lot. Look around, make grotesque faces. It feels silly at first until people tell you that you look amazing and they loved the show. You definitely can overdo it, and it may take a dozen gigs to find the right balance. If you can get a video recording of your performance, that’s a priceless tool. Athletes watch film of themselves all the time for similar reasons. Good luck with the gig!!! You got this.🤘🏼🤘🏼

Here's another tip: something that a nervous first-time-performer friend of mine found out by watching somebody much more experienced. If you make a mistake, don't try to hide it, or apologise or get embarrassed: own it, laugh about it WITH the audience and you will totally keep them on your side. If you've got a mic and an opportunity, make a comment about "live music, right?" and roll your eyes or finger-gun your head. Let yourself off the hook: the audience do NOT expect you to be perfect and they WILL forgive a mistake, IF you deal with it with a humourous and self-deprecating attitude.

Dany is the primary lead singer (75-80%); Pau is the secondary lead. Ale doesn't enjoy singing lead, although she will do so if needed because e. g. Dany is sick. However, she has an impressive counter-melodic line in one of their not yet released songs, Hell You Call A Dream (or "HYCAD" as we typically call it).

They toured Europe and headlined many concerts as well as opened for so many huge bands like Foo Fighters, Lzzy Hale, GnR, three Days Grace and their all-time idols Muse- who was so taken with The Warning that they asked the ladies to go tour Europe with them for the UK run! Matt Bellamy was also so taken with Dany (guitarist) that he gifted her a customer Manson guitar. Lzzy Hale was also so taken with the band that she also gifted Dany a customer Gibson Explorer on-stage mid-concert. If you know how to pronounce Alejandra, you know how to pronounce her nickname Ale; just say it exactly the same way, but without "jandra".
Daniela aka Dany, the guitarist, is the principal lead vocalist but on some songs, Paulina aka Pau takes lead fully, or they both share lead. Ale expressed not wanting so much to take the lead, so, except on rare occasions, she sticks which backing vocals, often the low voice.
Also, mind that the riff you liked is in 7/8. To my knowledge, that's the only song where they used that metric.
Finally, Evolve is not really "the band, now". It was recorded in 2021. The Warning is currently in the process of writing and recording their 4th album, knowing that each of the 3 other albums sound differently one from the other, showing the evolution of the band as they mature.

Alessia Cara wasn't "put in". She was the original artist who was invited by Metallica to contribute a song for the album.
Alessia is a Grammy winning pop/R&B singer. She wasn't sure how to approach the project, so she asked her team for suggestions. Someone in her management team who also has dealings with The Warning, suggested they do a collaboration. Metallica gave their approval and The Warning re-imagined Enter Sandman into a new version.
The studio version and OMV feature Alessia Cara fairly prominently. The live version that The Warning still perform at all of their shows is adapted yet again, basically making it their version, with Alessia only being heard on backing track vocals.

What's not to love? The Warning is the real deal. I've seen them 3 times now and they bring it. Shredders. Simple as that.

Just announced- new album comes out late June. "Keep Me Fed". Released tracks so far are 'More' & 'Sick'. 'Hell You Call a Dream' is about to release, if it hasn't already.

I liked how he was trying to play that 7/8 riff and getting confused because it wasn’t 4/4. Still pretty good being able to hear it and play the notes right away.

Ale is 2 syllables, just take the pronunciation of Alejandra and shorten it. Dany (guitar) sings lead on most songs, Pau sings lead on some. Ale will sing lead if they need her too, but no songs designated for that, and no pro shot video of that either. On "Disciple" you get Dany and Pau on co-lead, check out the live version at Teatro 2022. Spoiler: Disciple starts with a bass intro.😁
This crowd still doesn't know what hit them, most here didn't know who they were, just a few TW fans and they were brought to the front of the crowd. They played the extended play stage , prerecorded on Friday. Only a couple less than a minute clips were aired on the Tuesday awards broadcast. The only artist on this stage to do their songs in 1 take, and the only artist not nominated for an award. They gave up 1 of 2 dates opening for G"N"R for this. 2 songs played here, the other is a newer song called "More", I think it will be on the upcoming 4th album.

"Evolve" is the one that got me hooked on this very talented band. Paulina's scream takes the number to an entirely higher level...

    Yep. You've been Warned!
    New sub, great reaction.
Like others have said, their songwriting is not about rewriting the same song over and over. Always creative and pushing the new riffs and progressions. HOWEVER ...my best suggestion is to check out the entirety of the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX concert starting with either Z ( their opening song ) or Disciple one of their most dynamic. Both have the elements I think you are looking for.
    I LOVE THIS BAND !!
    ✌️🎼💖

None of their songs sound the same yet they have a style that is uniquely theirs. If I heard a song of theirs I had never heard before I would know it was them immediately.

@@LowEndUniversity great pick, but don't wait too long on Z; it's often overlooked but well worth it for the way it sets up the whole concert.

Thanks for this nice reaction! Like your channel and subbed! Loved your reaction to Rancid a week or so ago, and I love these rocking sisters! Saw them in London this year, the energy, the wall of sound, the voices! They are a power trio, to me the purest band formation, that’s why Ale‘s basslines are not only rhythmic, but also melodic, often start or end their songs. She plays a beautiful custom Spector bass 5-string, Spector gave it to her in the studio, and she loves it! Will see them on their next Euro tour in April! In August 2024 they are invited to Wacken Open Air! 🤯 Thanks, greetings from Germany 👍⚡️🤘

Thank you so much for the nice words, and the sub!! Means a lot to have you here. Super jealous that you’re getting to see them in a festival setting because I feel like they’d just dominate those audiences. Their songs have so much crowd participation opportunity. I hope to catch them soon. Cheers!!

You nailed it, seeing a band live blows away watching on TH-cam. I’ve seen The Warning 3 times. They brought me back to rock and going to shows. I hadn’t been to a concert probably 15 years. Then I decided I want to see them, I’m like what have I’ve been missing? Now I want to see Nemophila. I would love to see Halestorm again also. The Warning opened up for Halestorm and I saw that concert what a show.

@11:26 -- I've seen The Warning live 6 times (4x as the headliner; 2x as a support band) -- this song has closed their concert / set every time but one. Paulina's Scream of Destruction, Live, has been worth the price of every ticket I've bought.

I saw then live in 2022 and it was amazing. When the drummer erupts with her "Scream of Destruction", you feel it in the audience. The Drummer, Paulina does a lot of singing on the "Queen of the Murder scene" Album and in a song called Survive which was my introduction to The Warning back in late 2019 and early 2020. Please check it out. It is the University of Nevada show and Dany the Guitarist has a kick ass solo at the end.

The Waring is the best damn Live Band I have seen in 20 years. They are a must see if they come anywhere near your town .. I have seen hundreds and hundrens of Bands/concerts in my life time. I saw the Warning in small venues to bad those days are gone. This Band should be headlining stadiums.
