@@VSLAModelRR nice, look forward to it. I’ll go back and check out some of your other videos. I currently run an N scale Cajon Pass layout but have been really thinking about switching to a Ho switching layout.
That's a beautiful layout. I'm pretty close to the 5 freeway and Brookhurst in Anaheim, CA. right now; I ought to go see the neighborhood after which you modeled your layout.
New Sub - Nice layout tour. You did a real good job weathering the ex East Camden & Highland boxcar. I see those from time to time on the rails here transporting beer from Mexico. - Jason
Thanks for the tour. I like the street running. An inspirational layout. It gives me some idea for my own. I watched the IAIS Hills Line layout tour yesterday. Nice layout!
I like that custom bridge going over the Santa ana freeway I-5. Looks so real. The streets are well done ...no issues with trains on them either. Nice! You have a detail oriented layout and I like it . Thanks for the post . Gave you alike and sub.
An NMRA Turntable email had a link to your Santa Ana Industrial Lead layout video. I was gobsmacked to see it. It’s absolutely wonderful. I grew up in Anaheim, and the West Anaheim yard and Santa Ana St were part of our extended playground area. I loved seeing your modeling of it. Wow!!! I’ve always fantasized about a 1960s layout based on the yard and Santa Ana St, with the lumber yards and packing houses, including the spur near the yard that went through Taylor lumber and Home Oil, and across Hessel to the Ice House that used to there. And Harmony Park!
Your layout is coming out very nicely 👍 . When it comes to layout operations and construction……. Follow your gut and be happy with all that you have done so far 😊 !!
Thanks for producing and sharing this video tour of your layout. I also follow Rick on SoCal Model Railroading, so it's interesting to see another take on L.A. suburban branch lines. Your approach, having a few industries, relatively spread out, should provide a more satisfying approach to branch line operations -- not too much tracksge squeezed into your scenes. I'm looking forward to more videos, both showing further developments, as well as some operations. Finally, I would like to encourage you to add that bridge to allow for continuous running. Sometimes it's nice to hear a loco chugging and the sound of rolling wheels in the background while you're busy with something.
Incredible modeling! I worked in Anaheim for 38 years, off Lincoln and Broadway. I KNOW that area, and you have nailed it. I was awestruck the moment I saw the bridge over the 5 Freeway. I have watched trains over this branch since the Espee days; back then, Espee serviced their engines just north of that bridge, crews reported to an office. There was a very interesting Wye at that space. Right up to 1990, there were wig-wag signals at the intersections along Santa Ana street. BTW: cold storage is the perfect industry for Anaheim; there are quite a few of them in town...some served by BNSF.
Nice layout watched your earlier video and how things changed great work the details coming out good. Can't wait to see when it all connects together and you start doing opps sessions 😊
Yes soon. I think I need to do the plastics transload area in a session, seeing it would be easier than my attempt at an explanation like I tried to do in this video.
@11:45 Personally I think a more interesting modeling subject is the Anaheim Packing House and the nearby lumber mills. Packing houses required wooded crates and when those were phased out, they became lumber mills, especially for the construction boom in Orange County after WWII (that displaced the orange groves). As you know, the packing house is now a food hall. The development and lack of activity at some of the lumber mills suggest that these too will soon be gone. So even if you don’t end up modeling the curve from Olive to Santa Ana, I recommend checking it out and pondering on what it looked like, before it’s just another beige housing community.
Really enjoyed the video. I enjoy how you utilize your place into something believable still without compressing tons of unnecessary industry or track where it’s not needed. My humble opinion regarding making the layout a continuous loop - I say go for it especially when you have guests that may not be familiar w railroading but want to watch a train it allows you to run something without active management. Could make a simple drop bridge that can be down normally but allows you to run continuous if needed. Keep up good work.
Interesting, I worked for UPS for 41 years, a lot of it out of the Anaheim building which is right behind Ganahl Lumber. I spent most of my career in tractor trailer, which meant I was in the pig yards for years. Im down in south OC modeling Rio Grande narrow gauge steam in Sn3. But from being in the rail yards Ive developed a liking for modern diesels also.
I see the building on the map, looks like the Ganahl delivery and ABC Supply delivery (asphalt place) you may be able to see from the parking lot whenever they got delivered.
Hi. First time viewer. Very nice layout. I would keep it your continuous running and then you can railfan if you want to and keep different industries there. Definitely got some idea for my n scale layout thanks. Matt
I like your Edison poles. Did you scratch build those? Many don't put the high voltage signs on them, but I see you did. I do the same on my poles, too.

I forgot to put the slide in that shows the layout stats, room dimensions, etc. so those have been placed in the description in a text format.

Nice layout, and again, the street running scene is great.
Thank you, still a lot to do in the scene but a lot of the hard work is done I hope!
Epic Fart Barf tag on the bridge… not many people know about them but they are genius
Love your layout, I will refer to it often when building my own
Thanks! Glad I can help.

Yeah, I have considered that place as well. It's still a possibility
You should add in the turnout to switch out the building where the lumber company was. Run the sp equipment. Retro.
Tremendous amount of work accomplished ....

Yeah, its a kebob skewer with Rix products crossmembers and some styrene details. I think maybe 2 videos back (Dec 22) I talked about those.
