The Santa Susana Model Railroad Club was built in the freight house of the Santa Susana former Southern Pacific Depot in Simi Valley, CA.
The layout was built with both an ops-based and also public display-based features, which makes it perfect for the members who maintain it. The layout also represents real-life places, with signature scenes that faithfully capture the places being portrayed. Find out more in this layout tour.

There club is great! They let me run my train even though I’m not a member!
Scale train movement. Oh so nice to see the engineer pull out the slack. When movement is in scale you become immersed in the scene. Model Railfanning at its finest.
Fantastic video. If any viewers have questions, feel free to let me know. I’m Josh, the first club member in the video :)
Thanks for checking in, Josh. There's almost always a question or two after a layout video publishes. Thanks also for your part in making the project happen!
Really good layout.. love the older day's.. I have mine 50's to late 70's.. glad I didn't see on your layout a 90'car . You guys kept it real... Thanks for showing, joe
What an outstanding club! The enthusiasm is unmatched by any other club I have seen online. Thanks so much for 😊sharing!!
Thanks for the compliment. We’re really proud of the club, and super appreciative of TSG and our club members for documenting it.
@@jgalexander510 You and your members are an inspiration to us all, and show what this hobby could, should be about. Please keep it up! I know all of you inspired me.
Some of the best backdrops that I've ever seen; very impressive operation.
That's an awesome layout very detailed everything I saw is incredibly beautiful! My compliments to everyone who's worked very hard I want to wish everyone there a merry Christmas
I was a member of a Club that was difficult to get folks to agree on anything! So the fact you have people who are interested in a specific line and time, I feel is a very strong Plus!!!
The weathering work on the rolling stock and locomotives is amazing. The technology and features on this layout are fantastic.

All I can say is WOW 😊😎👌👍!
Gorgeous club layout ! Must be fun to operate. Love the fine weathered cab forward stealing the show.
Well done , guys !
Just goes too show what can be done when you have a great club that works together.
You folks are all crazy in a good way! Love the setup and tour!
As usual, very good John!!!
Beautiful layout and I’ve enjoyed the professional tour.
I've never seen a moving cab forward model. To see one in action is so cool.
What a great layout, I could loose a day there.
Watching in New Zealand.
Thank you for the tour of your most magnificent layout. You’ve built the jewel that I’ve dreamed of since I first became involved in model railroading over 60 years ago. Excellent gentleman 👏🏻👍🏼😁
Thanks for sharing John. I think my modelling mojo is coming back!
Great video John I wish I had found this channel when I still live in Cali, wasnt into computers then then moved to NC and got a laptop LOL Love the layout videos

Haven't been to the layout since 2011, just before I moved away from Katherine Rd., San Su. Wow - so much has changed - You guys have really been busy! Gotta Love it!🤗 🚂Lawrence

Beautiful layout and wonderful presentation. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
wonderful layout and interesting explanation about different decoding systems and the logic behind
Fabulous layout!! Wish I had 40 more years I'd be building one similar to this. Thank for the video.
My name is Peter Waco I live in Bakersfield I remember Bill Rehart at old Park building in Simi Valley I was in my teens Iam 62 of age now, I run a lot of U.P stuff Big ALCO's C855A and B I have a lot of videos on TH-cam also. P.Waco I am in GEHAMS Model RailRoad club,
Lovely model railroad...just for comparisons sake, if you actually wanted to model the state of California from North to South/East to West in HO 1/87 you would need a layout that was 2.65 miles wide on average and a length of 11.6 miles...that would be to model the state in it's entirety to scale without selective compression.
Pretty wild. We definitely took some license and made some big cuts to get in the important bits.
Does the cab forward have a powered alco diesel in the ender to assist in pulling all those reefers?
Nope! It handles the load all by itself :)
