    It's actually called Signal Peak, not Single Peak. It's named that because of the Signal House on the top of the mountain (Red Mountain) that the railroad built. The signal operator lived up in the house from April to October (Summer). His job was to Signal if the any of the snow sheds caught fire from the coal burning trains coming over the Sierra Nevada. The signal poles for the telegraph and later phone are still there if you search a little on the 80 side of the hill. The last signal operator died around 1936 when lightning struck a telephone pole. The operator was on the phone at the time and was electrocuted. A little known wheeling fact, you can drive right off the top of the mountain to the left of the signal house. We used to call it the "Billy Goat Trail" as it feels pretty sketchy. I went up and down it many times in the mid-2000's on ATV. I have a video of it on my old ATVOBSESSION YT channel.

    Wow such beautiful views there! Such a shame people leave trash like that. We always carry extra trash bags as well as gloves in case we see that kinda thing. I really enjoyed this video. Good Job.

    Awesome views, this was our backup if the rubicon still had water crossings too deep, we were going to explore this whole area north of the 80.

      We are so down! Just have to hammer out some time that we can make it worthwhile to drive up there. itll be like a 12 to 14 hour drive so its too hard to do in a weekend.

    Is this a way to run part of Fordyce if the water is to high

    Thanks for the video. Id like to see if we could cut into Fordyce creek trail from the Fordyce Lake campground. I know its nearby and drops you off at the committee crossing. Thanks

      You absolutely could. But as if right now I think the trail is closed down to Fordyce lake as they are doing work on the dam this summer.

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are some of those trucks in your group running stock tires(highway terrains)?

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, at least one is. The trail has great grip so stock tires were fine.

      @Daniel M. Although in the same area, this video is of the "SIGNAL PEAK" trail to "FORDYCE LAKE" (as the video is titled)... not he "FORDYCE CREEK" trail. More than semantic, there is a vast difference between the two. Search "Fordyce creek trail" for the one you are thinking of. Side note, Fordyce Creek trail gets worse EVERY year, so if you are looking for accurate references, make sure the video is at lease 1-2 years recent.

    Would you say this trail to Fordyce Lake is Easy and is it wide enough for a Ford Raptor to make it?
