  • Led by Art Monk "The Posse" were some bad a** dudes...Ricky Sanders and Gary Clark were straight burners and Monk a Hall of Famer one of the best position receivers of all time, This bunch were the first trio to each have 1,000 yards in a season and won two Super Bowls without the help of a Hall of Fame quarterback but were given plenty of time by "The Hogs" and had the brilliant Joe Gibbs calling the shots and they capitalized...I really miss real football I use to watch as a kid...Sigh Music by Billy Elm & Woody Jackson

In 2008, Monk and Green were both inducted in Canton. As a diehard Skins fan since 72 I was there wearing a Sean Taylor Jersey (RIP) and ran right into Gary Clark during Greens speech.... Gary was cool AF.... took a couple pics, signed some chit, shook hands and walked away. The 80s early 90s were some great years....... hopefully Rivera can restore the greatness! Sean Taylor Forever!!!

I considered him one of the Possee back in the 1980's. Posse was a Package for 3 WR's where Didier and Bryant would go in. Often Didier was already in. So it was 4 guys coming in for the Posse Package which included Bryant. But when the Nickname got stuck to the Receivers they didn't include him.

Gary Clark of the Washington Redskins conducted at least 3 football camps at Native American reservations during his career. He wanted to know if they thought the Redskins name was racist. What he saw was Native Americans wearing Redskins gear and saying that they were proud to be a Redskin fan and the 5% that weren’t Redskins fans were Cowboys fans and that’s why they didn’t like the name.

Ricky Sanders didn't play for Texas State, he played for SOUTHWEST Texas State. Let's not do the revisionist's history shit. "The Smurfs" and "The Posse" were AWESOME--and they deserve all of the credit in the world, but I just wish that Don Warren and Clint Didier were as well known.

The Posse was every bit as good as the great receiving corps Sonny Jurgenson had in the 70s with Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, Roy Jefferson and Jerry Smith.
Most of those guys are in the Hall oF Fame, well, at least Taylor and Mitchell are. I’d like to see the entire Posse be inducted. Monk was a shoe-in and finally got his bust in 2008, but Clark and Sanders need to go Intro the Hall just for that one quarter of football in Super Bowl XVII. Come on man, Sanders had 193 yards receiving and 235 total yards offense, both are still Super Bowl records to this day! Can’t Ricky Sanders at least get a nod from the Hall?
35 points and more than 228 yards passing in that one quarter. That was the shortest Super Bowl, but the most action packed. The entire game started and finished in one quarter. John Elway did what he could in the first quarter, putting up 10 unanswered points while Doug and company prepared for the second.
By the time the gun went off for the end of the first half, the game was over, except for Timmy Smith’s pursuit of Marcus Allen’s rushing record from Super Bowl XVIII. Allen took the record from Washington when he broke Riggins’ 166 yard rushing record from Super Bowl XVII, but Smith brought it back home with his 204 yard day, which is still the record to this day. Smith didn’t do much in Washington, but he did at least bring the Super Bowl rushing record back to Washington, where it belonged.

What was scary about Monk is that he was NOT a wide receiver in college; he was a *running back* at Syracuse. (Sounds familiar - and should - Bobby Mitchell followed the same path.) The Posse had a Sheriff - and that Sheriff was Monk. The Master of the Dodge. (That came from Sports Illustrated and ESPN - and before that season with 106 receptions - the first for ANY receiver.)

Art Monk, In the end zone on 4th down to win the game against the Rams in 1988 Doug Williams hit him right in the hands. Monk did not have great hands, he had good hands but not great. UK here and a fan. But if I recall they were formerly known as the Boston Braves. I would have loved then to become the Washington Braves, with a nod to the USMC or other appropriate military branch in their logo. I gather there is an A10 warthog base not too far away.
