    Wow Mark Rypien threw for 442 yards on only 16 completions! That is 27.6 yards per completion. Deadly deep ball. That is crazy. The 91 skins are the most underated Super Bowl champions ever.

      Rypien only had a deep ball, but Glanville wasn't smart enough to flood a deep zone on him. Force him to make a mistake underneath and mix it up with a blitz here in there instead of all the time and Rypein would eventually throw an interception. Oh well I love seeing him do well because he was a favorite of mine.

      @@marvinclay4476 and while the Posse was around for 2 superbowls, the first SB victory was Charlie Brown and Alvin Garrett... so he even had different WRs. The only Offensive Lineman to start all 3 SB victories were Jeff Bostic and Joe Jacoby so he even did it with different O-Lineman.... all of this with a team assembled with very few draft picks. He won superbowls with other teams rejects, undrafted free agents and late round picks. No coach in NFL history did so much with so little unless it happened after I stopped watching football (maybe patriots, not sure, don't follow it anymore)

    1991 was the perfect storm, talent at all spots hitting their strides. The 91' Redskins should be recognized as the best team in NFL history, with their overall record [ 14-2 ], points scored, avg point diff., and strength of schedule. They played AND beat 5 playoff teams from that year; Cowboys, Oilers, Bears, Lions, and Falcons. Only had like 8 sacks on Ryp all year, largest turnover ratio margin. Just too many stand-alone points one could make, but the media loved the 49ers and Giants, so they considered 91 to be an off year. B.S.

    • @CoreyT127

      Both loses were 3 points or less too! To their 2 biggest rivals. Their passing offense was as good as I've ever seen especially for it being a running era.

      In addition, they played and defeated the defending Super Bowl champion Giants twice, and played the #1 defense in the NFL (Eagles) twice, losing a meaningless week 16 game in Philly after they had pulled their starters.

      After a slow start (3-6), the 49ers were red hot at the end of the year. They closed out the season with that 52-14 obliteration of the playoff Bears. Had they been able to sneak in the playoffs with their 10-6 record, who knows? They matched up well vs the skins. Maybe they could have pulled the upset.

    Benny Robinson, that is probably the dumbest thing ever said on a comment forum. The '91 Skins buried just about everyone that year. They had three shutouts I believe, and scored 40+ routinely. They only gave up nine sacks, and two of those were the meaningless week 17 game with Jeff Rutledge at QB to keep Rypien healthy for the playoffs. The Cowboys beat an 11-0 Skins team on an afternoon where everything went their way. While everyone could tell they were an up-and-coming team/dynasty the 1991 Redskins is one of the top three teams in NFL history.

    Something I've always been curious about. Joe Gibbs was never one for running up the score, not even against the Cowboys in 1986 when the Redskins led 34-0 at halftime and ended up winning 41-14 when they easily could have hung 50 or 60 on Dallas that day. So what happened that caused him to have Rypien throw those long bombs to Clark and Monk in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach? Was it something Jerry Glanville said or did? Or was it one of his goons on the field? Something had to have set him off.

    • @jpwjr1199
      @jpwjr1199 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Well, Glanville was not the most liked coach by the NFL coaching community of the day in the league's history to be sure, but Gibbs stated after the game that the Falcons defensive staff kept loading the box and sending in LB blitzes. So....Gibbs felt that he would risk more injuries for his offensive players, if he started robotically dialing in running plays. That was his stated rationale at the time.
      However, I should clarify something. Gibbs was no stranger to dialing up the score on certain opponents. Gibbs is, and was, a good man by all accounts, but let's not paint him as a plaster saint, either. I mean there were a LOT of lopsided scores during that season. One was against the Belicheat's Browns 42-17. Which, of course, got flipped badly, when Belicheat returned the favor some 16 years later.
      Even Joe Bugel was seen screaming at Gibbs, when Buges coached Arizona for the Skins' running up the score and Gibbs later apologized. Anyway, it's pro football (which I believe is heavily corrupted and manipulated to begin with, both then and now) and the idea of sportsmanship before performance at that level is non-existent. Not saying that's good, just, or right, but that's the reality. I don't think pro sports is a good model for much of anything in this life to tell you the truth, but that's an entirely different conversation.

    90 and 92 the Niners beat the skins in the playoffs, lucky for the skins that in 91 the Niners failed to make the playoffs by 1 game.

      🤣🤣🤣🤣
      The ‘91 Niners would have gotten their asses kicked just like the Lions, Falcons and Bills did!
      NOBODY was beating the ‘Skins in the playoffs that year!
      🤣🤣🤣🤣
