    Just like the other gentleman thanked you for mentioning folks that can’t get out to do things like this, I’m one of those people also. Im permanently disabled now. I was hit head on by a drunk driver so I’m very sedentary now because of it. Long story where that’s concerned so no need getting into it, but your videos make it feel as if I’ve tagged along with you. Anyway, thank you for making an old veterans heart smile.
    Best wishes,
    God speed

    Such a beautiful place....I hiked and camped in colorado and Wyoming back in the 80s and 90s ....not as many people back then....I drove 50 miles and not see another car...Wyoming is still much like that, not nearly as many people as Colorado....but you guys found a great , beautiful, magical place.....loved it....

    I had altitude sickness once and had to be evacuated by helicopter to the hospital. The short answer is I was not in good shape. I didn’t acclimatize for one day at the lower elevation before climbing the mountain. The biggest reason. I went up too fast with out resting properly and didn’t bring enough water. I ran out at the top. I was very inexperienced then. I went back a couple of months later and climbed it. I had to prove to myself that I could do it. Been climbing mountains ever since. I LOVE THE DANCING AT THE END. Hilarious. 😂😂😂. Great video.

  • @richardedwin5980
    @richardedwin5980 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Luke...altitude sickness is the real deal. She obviously didn't have an opportunity to acclimate which is key to success at altitude. I had the fortune of being able to travel to Kathmandu and then do the 23 day hike to Mt. Everest base camp which sits at 17,552 feet & Island Peak this past Oct. We spent four nights sleeping at 16,076' before proceeding up to base camp. It took us 11 days of up n down acclimatization before we hit 16,995'. My trek also had a built in more difficult destination and that was the summit of Island Peak at 20,305'. It was a kick in the ass and O2 at that elevation is only about 47% of what it is at sea level. Tons of carbs were taken in daily, water was consumed at 4 sometimes up to 6 liters a day. I prepped with 6mos of training and used Diamox to combat altitude sickness and I was fine. Biggest thing was it was hard to breathe. The trip of a lifetime. You can never imagine the scenery of the Himalayas. Oh yea...it's also cold like you've never felt cold!!!!!

    Luke, you guys produced a real keeper. I loved the entire episode but was a little concerned for Susie. She is a real brave trooper but her bravery is what had me worried. It was a loving and committed husband who helped lighten her load. You backpack sure was towering over your head! Tell Susie I admire her because I know it was difficult for her and she did it to make your dream a reality.

    A great adventure, thank you for taking us along!
    As an old fart, I have found - that a hydration pack allows me to maintain exertion over time. If I sip water whenever I want, it's better than waiting to drink the same amount later - all at once.
    Before adopting hydration packs, I'd slow down every 1/2 hr or so - and need to stop and drink water before continuing. With a hydration pack, I never slow or have to stop! Amazing difference.
    I'm sure, Susan's rapid heart beat during the ascent - was dehydration and low oxygen. That, was indeed - a danger sign.
    I'm glad you noted, that increased dreaming is common at altitude. As a CPAP user, that gives me insight into when my blood oxygen has been low - thank you!
    Thanks again, for a fun vicarious adventure - and professionally done video!
