Anne Lister was very brave and strong, living the life she wanted to live at the time without compromises at the best of her possibilities.

It made me cry, it's spot on..
I am not gay but that was my favorite scene of the whole series. that is so deep. Walker was a strong lady as well. Living with depression is not easy, it kills your confidence, makes u more venerable to what others think of u cos u have little self asteam she did suffer from depression. Still in the end she was willing to risk everything to be with Lister.

Yes, I agree that Suranne Jones quite simply “owns” the role of Anne Lister in this series. She is incredible!! However, Sophie Rundle is marvelous as Ann Walker. She gives a nuanced performance, filled with vulnerability, fragility and a degree of self awareness that was painful for her character to achieve. We were able to watch her grow in self knowledge and finally to acceptance of her sexual orientation and her love for Anne Lister. Kudos to Sophie Rundle......as well as to Suranne Jones. They are well matched in their roles!!
The entire cast were brilliant, casting certainly put the effort in with this series! Apparently there is going to be a second series too!
Its like you can feel and see their whole relationship in just these few minutes. Well done its beautiful

God! That smile at 3:52! I haven’t seen the show yet (I don’t have HBO), only watched the trailer and these short combo videos here on TH-cam. But Suranne’s smile is the first thing I noticed, which even made me smile and think, “Gosh! That woman has a beautiful, heartwarming smile!” It’s rare that people, actors/actresses have that kind of effect on me. Also, judging by her movements in some of these videos, I can clearly see that she’s an amazing actress.

Though Ann Lister's characterization is terrific, the choice of woman to play the other Ann is so cool--a great actress as well.
Indeed, Sophie Rundle gave a very nuanced performance as Ann Walker. She displayed vulnerability, fragility, uncertainty and confusion regarding her own sexual orientation as well as her love for Anne Lister. That depth of a performance in one as young as Rundle (only 30!!) is very unusual. Kudos to Sophie Rundle!! And most assuredly to Suranne Jones as well.
@@barbaraglynn1531 My favourite Sophie Rundle role is in the series "The Bletchley Circle". Former WW2 Codebreakers involved in 1950's Crime Solving.
Sadly it was expensive to make, and didn't seem to bring in the audience. Good performances from all the Female leads though.

madsteve9, Yes, Sophie was very good in “Bletchley Circle”, as she was in “Jamestown” and “Bodyguard”. She has an amazing resume for one so young. If you have not seen her play a psychologically disturbed new mother in an episode of “Call the Midwife”, please do. She was simply marvelous. I think it is in season three or four of CTMW.
