Ya know, when I first saw the title I was a bit, "another fauxing video." However, as I delved into your video, I was reminded of ya"lls superb and eloquent instruction. Fantastic video, brother. We need to see more. And before you ask, yes, I am cutting film as I recreate my YT channels. Watch for me.
You’re too kind! Finally filming- woot! I’ve been waiting for over two years! Can you feel the mounting pressure? Hehehe
This was impressive. How would you suggest minimizing the seams if you didn't want to use something like vines to cover them?
Other than filling on site, if it is going to need to stand up to CU's then you can either buy the offset versions or make your own by cutting out all the split bricks and one row of bricks alternating from the top and bottom. It's more fragile since on one side the fingers are going to unsupported till the wall is assembled but you won't have any seams to deal with. So it's a bit of whether you front load the work or back load it. Generally front loading is the best choice because shop time you have some control over and location time not so much.
Use the tiniest bit of spackle on your fingertip to rub it into the seam. We often mix a bit of paint with the spackle so it doesn't dry white, then touch up the brick with a bit of dry brushing.
Your materials list looks great, you might share it with Escape Room Technology and Props on Facebook. I'll share it with Room Escape Artist.
Awesome, thanks for looking at it for me! Just asked to join the group.
Absolutely!
It's a great resource. Group master is Pat Moreno- great guy.
This is a *great* tutorial, I would love to do this for an 'indoor set' for my business but the 'brick panelling' you speak of is *way* more expensive down here in Australia... I may have to find a way to recreate the bricks first. But this looks perfect, thanks so much!
If you can call me on WhatsApp, I can tell you how to how to make the brick pattern from scratch... 😁
Our number is in the "about" section on our TH-cam channel page...
Nice build. Probably not what they would have wanted for this set but a really nice and fast weathering technique that works really well on surfaces like this is to take some "rat paint" (what we used to call it for some reason, it's just the left overs from shows and such that are not standard colors and you just dump them in a big bucket and use it for priming and such, it generally looks like a dirty grey brown) thin it way down till it's just very dirty water. Stick it in a garden sprayer, the kind that you pump up to spray plants, and wash the wall down with it. It will leave "dirt" in crevices and on texture but doesn't really change the over all color because it's too thin so only places where it pools will have enough pigment to show. Supper quick and adds a lot of that natural variation your talking about, pluss it really takes down that "fresh paint" look.
Nice! I did something similar years ago
More stuff - Wooo! Loved the tutorial, thank you. I'm going to shamlessly borrow La-La and Brick Kisses when I land a dream job naming paint colors. ;) They are such fun.
LOL You're gonna kiss my WHAT?!?!
Nicely done. The fixative is a good trick. I use clear chalkboard paint for a similar result to seal in weathering.
That's a good idea! I never thought of that one!
@@GratuitousSets I needed some matte and it was cheaper.
Holy crap... why didn’t I notice that...ever?
5:35 Woah, you can see the brick start to come to life as you're painting! And that's painting at a 45 degree angle? Even at this stage, it looks so much better than the original colors!!
It's really dramatic on camera! Since I was so close to the wall, it didn't seem that way at first but, once I saw it on camera I was even happier!
@@GratuitousSets It would be really interesting to see if that method of painting would work on other surfaces like faux stone or wood. Imagine how cost-effective that would be!!
It’s badass! It works beautifully on anything with raised texture. I’ve used it on fake barnwood, Stone, lots of things. The order of operations is critical and changes depending on the desired outcome. I’ve added a light grading comb effect to my barnwood, but everything else stayed the same.
This was awesome!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!!😁
Thanks for sharing this.
Absolutely!!!
You have a career as a sit down comedian, every time you tell a joke people say "sit Down and don't do it again". LOL The wall looks great.
Carwyn! Good to hear from you, you Limey bastard 🤣
What was up with the Banksy Nixon on the back of that one panel?
We have a series of Banksy style stencils that Matt did years ago. We have Marilyn Monroe, Buzz Aldrin, Nixon, MLK, Einstein, etc. They are all based on iconic photographs. We use them to graffiti the back of sets- makes the backside less boring...phrasing!
Gratuitous Sets ah cool. I thought it might have been an amusing way to number the panels and Nixon was “panel 2”.
Very Nice tutorial!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
awesome thank you
You bet!😁
Oh to be a maker in the usa, we have nothing like that in our home improvement shops in the UK. Also no large cardboard concrete form tubes, those look so useful :(
To be sure! Although, the cardboard concrete tube should be available somewhere -sometimes there is a language barrier in terms. It might be “phenolic concrete form” or something like that... or maybe the UK has a profession like “tubewright” . My father’s father was a tubewright, and so am I! Lol
FOUND IT!!! www.defendapack.co.uk/concrete_footing_tubes.html
This might help easypanels.co.uk/product/red-brick-panels/
@@GratuitousSets Thanks! I'm envious though that you have regular stores that have this stuff, you can find it in the uk like your links, but usually you need a trade account and its more costly!
This is truly awesome!
Your cruelty is boundless.
Love the tutorial!
Thank you! Cheers!😊
Nice. It does look way better than the normal panelling. Panelling is the worst...but this stuff is cool.
That's very kind of you! Thanks😊
FIRST! ok, not really... :(
What the hell, Chad?!?! You weren't even close! I'm returning this trophy and you're suspended for the next round.
@@GratuitousSets yeah, I watched it yesterday but wasn't first so I wanted to be more dramatic today
LOL -Freakin' perfect🤣
