I have 3 cameras on a race car so for the first time I'm working on a multi camera composite into a single video. At this point my question is, once I have the multi camera sequence how can I edit that for example to cut out dead space where the race had been stopped for a period of time? I normally like to color correct and sharpen each video clip separately so you're tip on how to do that will be a great help. Thanks!
Brilliant stuff! Love the breadcrumbs. Adding corrections before nesting is a great tip. I edit a lot of stage cams and they all have different lighting and exposure. Many thanks.
Love your breadcrumbs approach to make source corrections when needed. I knew that N turned on the rolling edit tool, but I appreciate how you called it Nudge to make it more memorable. Also love the idea of making a copy of the source view before flattening so you can go back and make more edits. Finally, making additional nests to make your PIP overlay as an additional camera is a great tip.
Could use your insight on some multi cam issues I can't figure out. 1) My camera cuts long clips into shorter (10:00) clips so the main camera on a 12-min interview has 2 files. Do I need to join/nest those into 1 clip before the multi cam process? 2) My B cam was accidentally set on 1080 instead of 4K so in the sequence window it was the wrong size. At what point in the multi cam setup process do I correct that? Thanks!
Assuming you're in premiere? If so, You can butt the two clips together on the timeline (no need to nest) and as long as your audio is in sync, you should be good. For the 1080 on 4K, you can upscale the 1080 clip by right clicking on the clip and hitting "Scale To Frame". Should fill the frame up. Once you get these two things down, you should be able to complete the rest of the steps on the MC. Good Luck!
@@RobertMTeegardenyes, using PPro 2023. Appreciate the feedback. For some reason when I follow those steps the new sequence that’s created only has one of the video tracks so there’s nothing for me to switch back-and-forth between. I will go back and try to follow your video step-by-step, because it sure would save me a lot of time if I could multicam edit it. Thanks for the excellent video!
Hey Robert, I'd like to know how many multicams your mac can handle without proxies? I am often working with 5-7 cams and am wondering which macbook to buy. I use h264 4k xavc-s files, thank you.
Great question. I use 4 routinely and it seems to be fine. It's more a matter of how fast your drives and cables are from what I have found. That's the biggest bottleneck.
This video is by far the most valuable for me. There are a few things that went a little fast but basically very good. I have a question though. I have 3 camera that were shot fullscreen 1080p I want to add a different background to each one by making each camera size at 75% one a 50% and one at 30%. Can I make a (I'm not sure if this terminology is correct) nested sequence of each camera ahead of time (or even be able to adjust sizing or cropping later if need be) with that background and size and position? I want to be able to do a multi cam switch with all those settings. Is that possible? Please if so can you make a tutorial or point me in the direction of one that perhaps you did. Thanks so much!
Yes, you’re basically creating a new timeline with that set up, nesting the entire sequence into one nested clip and then copying it back into the sequence. I’ll be doing this for a podcast soon. I’ll try to recreate this and share.
@@RobertMTeegarden Got it!! After messing around I was able to figure it out. Thanks man! I was able to create multi camera views on different backgrounds, different sizes and crops and nest them as a look with only using one camera. Very easy to do now.
I have two cameras that I know have matches. From mayor keeps telling me that they can't find a match. I broke one of the clips audio into mono then tried to multicam sequence and it worked. I have no problem with polarized doing this. Do you know why multicam does this from time to time and reference to not finding a match when it clearly is
I'm stuck!!! I created a multicam sequence with 3 cams...of a band singing...they are not syncing up...how do I see all 3 on the timeline so I can manually sync up? then create a multicam sequence again...
Can you edit 4 4K videos without proxys? I can’t and my pc is so powerful in task manger, none of my components are maxed out Unfortunately Premire is not optimized for multicam 4k videos and higher.
@@RobertMTeegardenI’ve just had Adobe test this out on my PC and they concluded that the software is having issues. Adobe said that 4 cameras in 4k should work.
2 things I don't like with the multicam setup. First is nesting. Once you nest, all the frame sizes conform to your sequence dimensions. For me it's 1920X1080. Well the source footage I use is 4k. So I can't scale individual shots via the nested edit because it doesn't retain the original source footage dimensions and resolution. Cumbersome workaround for a fix to that. Second thing is I rather not having one video layer contain every single edit. It's a nightmare to visually look at it and determine which camera you are on. Because of that I usually just edit from my original sync sequence to retain my source layers. Or I multicam cut it with all original layers disabled in the sequence, just so I can easily reference back to the individual cameras for adjusting frame dimensions and resolution.
Thank you for the very thoughtful comment. My thoughts: 1. I the only time I nest in a MC setup is if the composition for that camera will never change so I'm not sure I have ever had that issue. Plus I think you could technically go back into the nested seq and recomp/edit the shot, although, as you said, cumbersome solution to your issue. 2. The other option is that you color your source clips and when you are content with the MC cuts, duplicatio and then flatten the sequence to reveal the color-coded source clips for your finish edits. Just my $0.02. Again, thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts here.
What types of multi-cam sequences are you putting together; podcast, interviews?
Reality show.

I'm editing MMA instructionals so lots of single cam talking and fast cuts during action sequences
The breadcrumb sequences are brilliant!
Thanks, dude. They're so helpful!

So glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Thank you for the help! I'm surprised you dont have more subscribers - the quality of your channel is through the roof. Keep it up!
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words.

flatten is cool, thanks man!

Great stuff!
Thank you very much!
Thanks a lot for these tips (make my life way easier ❤) keep going 😊
Appreciate that. Thank you.
TYSM!!! I was looking for a way to nudge the footage, very helpful!
Glad I could help!
It was VERY useful to help me editing multicam for the first time. Thank you very much!
That’s great! So happy it was helpful.
Been looking for the right keywords to find out how to flatten a multicam sequence for awhile now thank you so much! Saved me loads of time😭😆
Ayyyye! No prob, Bob!
Moving to Premiere from Media Composer. The hint about nesting "effect" tracks as separate cameras is pretty clever. Thanks for the tips.
Happy to help!
Thanks for the advice. Do you know a way to keep the color of the clips' labels in multicam clip without having to make a flatten?
Not that I know of
спасибо! очень полезное видео ♥

Use the soundtrack from each clip (wavs) to sync of the 3 cams visually (if you must). Once soundtracks are in sync the picture will be as well.
