    I'll never forget, as a kid, the first time I heard the mom's line telling the kids that they were in the real world, and that those people *will* try to kill them. It's good for kids to get that sort of message every once in a while.

    “Everyone is special Dash”
    “Which is another way of saying no one is”
    This is unchallenged by the film and is literally the villains plan
    “When everyone’s super, no one is”
    It’s surprising how in your face the film is yet it seems to have largely slipped by people’s notice.

    I personally feel that the point of the incredibles is that it’s not about ubermensch on the outside, but the ubermensch on the inside that counts.

    • @Ashathefree8
      @Ashathefree8 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can see it now, Scrooge is miserable at first because he’s embraced Christian herd morality and has archaic concepts of relationships. He then is visited by ghost existential past, a man with many regrets of holding onto arbitrary traditions, ghost existential present, Nietzsche shows him the consequences of herd morality by showing the life little Timmy, a boy who is weak and is taught to be weak, so that instead of empowering himself, he will die because he can’t lift himself up after being knocked over by an uncaring stranger, and drowns in mud. Than is visited by the ghost of existential future, Albert Camus tells him the absurdity of existence and that meaning can only be derived from people themselves, and shows a potential future where nothing changes because the strong are taught to be weak. In the end Scrooge realizes he shouldn’t be charitable because of Christianity, but learns to be charitable to do that he can make friends in this life, he puts Timmy on personal training regime, pays his workers more for their hard work to compensate them, and reduced his interest rates knowing well he can’t be paid if the people don’t have enough money to pay him, as well as encouraging people to come to him for his competitive rates. And becomes a boon to the local community which is revitalized so that everyone can support themselves.

  • @yoyoyodaboy

    While the video’s probably more correct than I am, I always thought part of the Incredibles theme was related to how Buddy, even since he was young, just wanted to be a superhero for vanity, and the Incredibles actually cared about others and were even willing to sacrifice their superhero identities for society.
    It’s kind of hard to argue with the ubermensch-over-gritty-underdog themes clearly evidenced in the video, though...
    Also, seems weird that a Pixar movie would endorse inequality and victimize natural talent (these strike me as unpopular). Why would Disney/Pixar would go in that direction? I know Disney’s evil, but what exactly motivated an “Ayn Rand Pixar movie.”

    I can definitely see this dilemma where during one's life, where one's identity is in flux between being exceptional and thinking that all of it is because of narcissism. Like there are all these things where one's empirically exceptional, but is forced to doubt oneself into thinking that one's exceptionalism is an illusion stemming from narcissism. Like there are people who believe that they are exceptional, but are just narcissists and there are people who are truly exceptional, but are not allowed to express that without being labeled as narcissists. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. It can be seen where mediocre people have an easier you time succeeding that exceptional people. Because as a mediocre narcissist, there is no room to think anything else. But as a balanced exceptional person, one is constantly doubting oneself.

    I don't really agree with the last bit.
    Syndrome pretty handily beat the Incredibles, and could probably stand on even grounds with any super(barring extreme cases). He lost to his own oversights and hubris, however.
    First, when he didn't take into account just how Bob beat the first robot, and again when he was trying to show off more than trying to actually save the city.
    As for the Incredibles killing him, that was for trying to and threatening to steal Jack Jack.

      Actually if Buddy hadn't shown up Bomb Voyage would have been captured and not stuck a bomb on his cape which then destroyed the train tracks which made Mr. Incredible try and save the people only to be sued. Then every hero wouldn't have been sued and super heroes would have been a public presence for a bit longer.
