@@MickDavies I'm not looking forward to that. I started at Ep. 1 and am up to Ep. 100. Need to slow down before I run into the brick wall. But, they're sooooo good!
Great video Vice
2016 called & said this story is already broadcasted! And its still hard to believe who actually was behind this incident.
I don’t get it. What’s stopping us from doing this back at them? They possibly couldn’t have the technology to defend against modern cyber attacks… we could cripple their entire country with a few key strokes but would rather sit back and let them do it to us.
Their country doesn't run on technology, and they have no money to steal. Shutting down computers there wouldn't be nearly as disruptive.
@@ItMakesYouWonder0 I’m pretty sure their missile launch network isn’t being powered by hamster wheels
@Abď oh so the state sponsored TV and their entire military complex is powered by hopes and dreams? Get out of here lmao
@@greengabe5 Close. They are powered by unicorn tears and leprechaun wishes.
Thanks a lot to all of you for making this video. From Bangladesh.
And they would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids and your dog!
🔝🔝🔝🔝📩📩 I have something special for you, you can contact me anytime.....
The animation at 4:30 goes from Bangladesh to what says New York but is actually showing some place in Canada lol
We know who is doing it, we know where they’re doing it, we know that they will do it again and yet, nothing will get done to stop them.
Cos they've nuclear weapons
@@agubuzuchisom8609 Cuz, Hackers can't be .....
I love how news media is creating a commotion on hacking. thanks for boosting my career as an ethical hacker lol
Jean Lee laughing at people in North Korea for not having electricity…nice
NK hackers will hack her data now.
Understand the protocol
4:33 that isn't New York, that's Newfoundland. Nice try though vice.
That’s like stealing a dollar to them
no it’s not you’re exaggerating
I m no N Korean. I am from Australia but I say Well Done.
This was such a well done hacking operation. Damn!
It’s more likely it was a CIA/MOS operation. North Korea doesn’t have the personnel nor the sophistication, and from a budgetary standpoint lacks several key operational facets necessary for what was described in the video.
Nah they got caught remember the paper trail
I’m from North Korea 🇰🇵 I love my king Kim
I like how you out a big circle around New York, but it actually points in the middle of Québec
You have to give them props they just don’t care and I’m sure having China on there side doesn’t hurt either
Wait, how is 81 million in any way close to a billion with a B lol
Why is New York in French Canada? 4:32
Kento Bento made a video about the Bangladesh heist a few years ago. Nice to see VICE make a related video now.
I was looking for this.
Fantastic breakdown, illustration, and reporting! VICE…. You’re a God send. Thank you for educating the world and granting open platforms for your investigative journalists. We applaud you!
lol .
No i didn't sent them
There was actually way more details left out so your getting a crumb of a pie instead of the whole pie
bruh they casually mention only $81 mil was stolen but keep saying "TRIED TO STEAL A BILLON". cmon guys
Clickbait and propaganda
A very good eye opener. Cat stuck in cage can turn to a tiger..similarly the isolated NKs are becoming tigers but in a very bad way to entire world...can't we have peace in this world.?!
Nhi..
pretty sure at 10:24 she said bahn not bank, as in the German public transport
Thx was looking for this comment
Honestly, if I’m Kim, I would chill on those “I will end the world” threats, and just enjoy the wealth. According to multiple documentaries that I have seen, Kim has around $5 billions stashed, and that figure was over 5 years ago, I’m pretty sure he has more now with all those shady dealings.
@@josevillarreal9920 when did kim threaten to end the world

@@sad_ham1 government is still giving freebies intead of making hackers like china north korea to protect our selfs and still teaching us 1900s technology
I'll never forget when I first heard about this, I always wonder if Kim knows the rest of the world views him as an absolute joke of a leader.
He knows everything. Which is the saddest thing
who trains these hackers or are they funded somewhere else? I don't imagine a lot of people know how to hack in north korea lol.
As backwards as you may think North Korea is, they do in fact put heavy emphasis on education. Many citizens study abroad as well in China. I have no doubt that they don’t have a shortage of sharp minds
It’s more likely it was a CIA/MOS operation. North Korea doesn’t have the personnel nor the sophistication, and from a budgetary standpoint lacks several key operational facets necessary for what was described in the video.
NK trains youth to hack. They grow up and can become a computer expert. They also send their employees to other countries to learn more.
Look it up. I watched a video on TH-cam about NK.
They literally train children to kill, don't they? There's a video on here that explains how children are picked to become experts in whatever field they want them to go into (obviously from observation no one really knows the inner workings of this system).
How come we havent heard about North Korea during this Russia/ Ukraine tension?
What's going on over there in North Korea every time.
You guys make really clear and good videos I think! I've been watching your videos for a long time and I think the quality is getting better and better! Keep it up! I also make videos and I can definitely learn from your quality.
This is blatant propaganda.

I was about to watch the interview….. got the end spoiled…!!
How did they win all the money back at the Philippines casinos? Did they cheat somehow, or what? If they didn't cheat, how could they just win the money back like that?
They didn't win all times so total amount is less than 81 million.
Go in, buy $100,000 in chips. Play a few games. Take $89,000 to cage and get paid. You tend to loose a little money washing it at casinos.
@@Lord_Internet Only a little money? I thought you loose a hell of a lot more than that. I mean, the house always wins, right?
Yet another example of why digital ID and a cashless Society are terrible ideas
People should be more diligent about who they take money from (if not the casinos, then the other participants of the economy).
How can they have hackers when they dont even have computers or food there : D
They are extremely aggressive once they get rolling. Kinda scary since they’ve been shooting missilles. Is this how they continue to build up their nuclear capabilities?
North korea is literally free to do what it wants without real boundaries and consequences.
Social engineering has nothing to do with social media
damn, didn't even see this in the Philippine news. they're so focused on the elections and what the candidates are doing
it was a few years ago and yes it was all over the news. New York Times even did a piece on it that appeared on youtube.
To be fair foreign media are much more interested in covering the heist than majority of TV channels in Bangladesh. That is why not many Bangladeshi know about it since probably the government is too embarrassed to admit their incompetence that they failed to safeguard USD 81 mil of taxpayers money
@@Dizinii Ohh maybe I was still too young to watch news, thanks for this
2:24 “employees were reduced to using old fashioned pen and paper” says the news anchor holding a pen
The thing I don't understand about "The interview" and North Korea trying to get it stopped ..... North Koreans cant watch movies like this anyway, so what was the issue then ?
you are publicly disrespecting a literal God in their eyes.
Are we all just going to ignore the fact that at 4:33 they show New York on the map, but that is clearly Quebec?
THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE IN MY LIFE WAS
INVESTING IN FINANCIAL MARKET. TRUST ME GUYS, IT
PAYS!

him or her of hard work and time
Investing in cryptocurrency is the best way of getting
ahead to build wealth, investing remains a priority. The

decent Payouts, with the rights skills and proper
understanding of how the market works, i pray that

Exactly, at the moment bitcoin is the best and profitable coin to buy and invest in.
Crypto trading is very profitable when you trade well.
Many of us don't know where to invest our money so we
invest it in wrong places and to the wrong people
You would think 20 guys all named Kim walking into a Casino would be a red flag.
These two are great! They did a full length podcast series for the BBC called the Lazarus heist. It's really good!
North Korea doesn’t have food but they have tech and nukes unbelievable
I can totally see Netflix's Money Heist and this story in their next season and allow a new Character named Pyongyang to play the Asian dude.
Actually 'Professor' is Pyongyang

I didn't know that you could be bad at sarcasm
This is blowing my mind. So they basically stealing digits? Like they didn't steal actual paper but just code?
Why do you think money exist in paper? Where you been for the past 60 years? Didn’t you know the financial institution around the world moved out of paper money a long time ago.
"Mind-blowing" some things should remain the same. Everything shouldn't be digitalized. Up close,& personal can then be explained,& pinpointed.
Why $1 billion? Why not $1 trillion?. This is just an example of having unacceptably low goals. Think bigger North Korea!
Please cover the Colleyville synagogue hostage crisis.
How in this day and age is a country like this allowed to exist?
It's amazing how, despite being investigative journalists, they either aren't good enough to figure out, or intentionally leave in propaganda, Details about the ordinary lives of North Koreans, like having computers. They said "only those who work for the government use computers", well I hate to burst your bubble but almost everyone in North Korea to a certain extent works for the government, because most business is owned by the state. Additionally, North Koreans not only - SURPRISE - have electricity, but have their own smart phones, which use the internet, my friends. Now, they may not use Western websites and social media, but they certainly don't live in the dark ages. The amount to which the ruling classes have gotten away with propagandizing the North Koreans is so utterly absurd.
Haha well said
Have you been there?
Do you have any proof for your claims?
@@betahouse8 i know Western propaganda makes one believe otherwise, but there Is actually pretty easily accessible information, and people on the internet and social media that regularly go to the DPRK, that share those experiences online for the world to see. I mean if you understand anything about how the West works, you know that any state unwilling to bend the knee to western business is going to get propagandized to the moon and back. There is a whole beautiful world out there you will never know about if you don't look behind the curtain.
@@saiftama no, I personally have not been there. I have tried setting up a trip, but as a US citizen, I'm forbidden, by the US government, not the DPRK, from legally visiting there. I do know a woman from Canada, who now lives in China, and works as a guide to the DPRK.

They have earned way way more than those $1bn .
Hacking is the main source of income of the regime in NK.
Wanna know the second source of income, throwing a fit and threatening to use nuclear weapons when Kim’s wallet is feeling a bit empty, and when they get their money from other countries trying to calm them down, they spend it on further fortifications, ski resorts for Kim, and propaganda instead of the people that are starving
