Free spool it out...and use a tree saver.wrapping the cable around on itself will kink the cable where the hook grabs it.

Dude, never, ever hold the winch cable while it’s under tension! If the cable broke it would literally cut your fingers off, or it could take an eye out if it whipped your face!
