GMG's customer support is amazing! I've had my Jim Bowie for about 6 years now. And even though it's out of warranty, they have sent me replacement parts free of charge and have always been prompt to return emails or phone calls. Great company.
We’ve had our Z Grill ZPG-450A pellet grill for a little over two weeks. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3c8DmtYRYEKYTiR4g7y6Yc2amUPVs_3X It was relatively easy to put together, with 2 of us. (friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also. All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.
I checked out a lot of reviews when I started my search for a pellet grill/smoker. I bought the Green Mountain Grill Ledge, after about 10 months I bought the Green Mountain Grill Peak. I use both smokers when I cook. The slow cooks are done on the GMG Peak and cook things like baked beans (several variations) hasselback potatoes, corn on the cob and bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. For me Green Mountain Grill is the way to go.
3 years ago I watched your review and liked it. It was part of what got me interested in Pellet Smokers.. Ended up going with a Traeger at that time and still love it! In fact.. Smoked some chicken legs on it today and then some Steaks right after and it was as good as the day I bought it!! 🤣🤣 Had a Gas and Charcoal Grill before, both of which have become absolute!! It is interesting though, my wife used to never like grilling on the propane grill, but since our Traeger, she uses it probably nearly as often as I do. I love coming home from work, getting out of the vehicle and smell the flavour pellets burning over some kind of meat… Always makes my day. And with the Traeger having just a simple dial, it is really fool proof. It’s sooo simple, turning on, set temp, and shut down, can’t mess it up, as long as you don’t unplug it! She used to never grill, and now she is constantly cooking all sorts of stuff for dinner on it. So from that little Traeger, I then expanded to a Pro34 cuz I got a “smoking” deal on it, and also invested in a Pitboss Vertical Pellet Smoker for the real “low n slow”. So currently I have those three Setups and each has its unique pros and cons. I like my Traegers, I like the Pitboss, however I do firmly believe the GMG is a premium and superior product over the Traeger and Pitboss both, and if I’d buy again, now more than ever I’d go with a Green Mountain. I only say that because multiple of my friends and family own GMG and I see their superior construction and design. I forgot how ugly the old GMG’s were lol, but the new Prime and Prime Plus, specially the Jim Bowie look super sexy and are a vast improvement over the original ones, from what I’m being told. So after seeing my best friends and fam enjoying theirs and watching them how they are performing etc, I am convinced they are better built, more robust. I also do like the higher dome design over the round barrel any day. It’s so much better for rotisserie, adding second shelf, etc. Also had an Austin XL 1100 for a while there, but I didn’t like that one! For now, my Traegers aren’t breaking down, they keep chugging and smoking along, so I’ll keep using them, after 3 years. But eventually it’ll be time to upgrade and for me, if it stays the same, it’ll be most likely a GMG. Unless I win a lottery, then Yoder it is 🤣🤣🤣 Great vid, thanks for sharing your experience as it helps many! Appreciated Now, as they say: “go smoke somethin…”
The GMG tech support, app support, and warranty response is excellent. I turned mine up for a long period of time and warped the drip tray, called support and had a new one in the mail two days later. The WiFi issue is an easy fix, it's just a specific order of how you connect and switch to "server mode" when you leave the house. It's tricky but literally takes two minutes for the app support team to walk you through.
I have had 3 GMGs. Loved every one of them, gave one to my daughter after 10 years of use. Only replaced the igniter during that time. Love my newest one. Bought one from a friend that had issues with it....good for smoking but has some sort of circuit board problem as it trips out when plugged in to gfci outlet. Over all a better unit than the light weight Traeger in my opinion!
I bought the same grill about 3 years ago too. I have had zero issues with it and have been very happy with it. I originally purchased it w/out the Wifi, but upgraded the controller about a year ago. I didn't have any issues with connecting the app, but you do need to upgrade the grill's firmware first. I'm going to assume that you've probably done that. If not, then just look up the video. I've only used the server mode once or twice and it worked fine. Again, just like you, we kept our gas grill. My wife would rather use that and it's obviously quicker to hop on there and grill then it is on virtually any pellet grill. I definitely would recommend the GMG for anyone looking at pellet grills in that price point.
I feel the most important thing to compare between the GMG and Traeger is that when the GMG meets the temp that you set, the fan goes into a puff mode keeping the smoke in the chamber where as the Traeger that I had before I bought the GMG, when it reached temp the fan continued to plow at the same rate, pushing the smoke through the box. I feel that the GMG gets more smoke flavor into the meat than the Traegers I've used. If Traeger changed that design then maybe I'd try Traeger again. But I've had my GMG Jim Bowe for 3 years now and I love it. I used several times a week and I'd buy it again when this one wears out.
Bought a treager 4 yrs ago had a couple of issues , Treager was difficult to deal with. I gave it away bought a GM Daniel Boone Prime Last year , GM stayed on the phone the entire time during setup including WiFi it was not difficult now it’s second nature.
Hey! Thanks for this video! I am in Germany and was seriously looking at buying a Traeger, until I saw your first video "5 reasons to buy". Was great to see this video and that your GMG is still working for you! Like you, the big put off was having to buy pellets from Traeger! Anyway thanks again!
Those GMG grills have way better temperature control also compared to any other pellet grill out there, 150 degrees to 550 degrees, in 5 degree increments, digitally. Nobody else does that for the price tag of a GMG. Just an FYI. I've got the Davy Crockett, and it has been great for 5 years straight.
I have the GMG Jim bowie. 3 years and I use it alot..ribs, brisket, pork butt.,tri,tip.bear can chicken..I really don't need any excuse and i buy my pellets at the woodshed..also us a great assortment of t Rubs as well pellets I Love My GMG
Im getting a Daniel Boone instead of the Traeger. I just purchased a Pitboss Pro series last February and that thing was the worst. I had to replace the motor twice, PLC board twice. The pellets burned through the auger to the pellet box and caught fire. I really hope this one is a winner.
The traeger you were comparing i currently own and its great. So much easier to start and shutdown and wifi works great. Also its only 699 when you go to costco for some reason they charge more online for it. That being said i just purchased the new gmg trek for on the go things but have yet to use it. Great video
For looking at temperature, I have to recommend the MEATER thermometer. It can connect to wi-fi or blu tooth and will send a push notification to your phone. It also has the USDA temperature and the good (medium, etc) temperatures automatically on it. This is better for people who can't have a grill, since they live in an apartment, so they have to oven roast/pan sear everything, or you already have a smoker, and don't want to buy a whole new smoker for that feature.
😂 Hes’ dad mode has activated more and more each video. The only youtube family vlog I can get behind and im not mad. What kind of wood do you use, Hes? I like oak like everybody else but apple is lowkey fire to me.
I do have a treager smoker and have used different pellets in it. I have found it doesn't matter on brand just keep them dry. I'm looking at the green mountain smoker do the thikness of metal and where the location the fire box. I do have both pellet and gas grill it all depends on what is cooking from breads to meat, and the flavor that I want.
Can confirm the WiFi and server mode are difficult to set up. Was about to call customer service for assistance and finally pressed enough buttons to make it work. Startup has a learning curve as well. Other than that, no complaints, and the pros you mention far outweigh the cons. Would much rather support GMG over Traeger for reasons you mentioned (i.e., must use Traeger pellets is a huge turnoff and obviously not true).
If you want a portable pellet smoker. I have had both threw the traeger out. It would not hold the smoke mode. Green mnt. Holds temps also three different power source. I smoke baby back ribs while out on the lake fishing. Mmmmmmm!!!!
Can you have to many cookers??? Thanks to a great program at work it has allowed me to get an XL Big Green Egg, Camp Chef Woodwind wifi the largest model with the side kick, pizza oven, grill box and griddle, the Davy Crockett by GMG which is great for camping, Masterbuilt gravity feed 1050, and a Weber 4 burner gasser. Still thinking about getting a stick burner though. They all have the pluses and minuses. Just get to know what they are.
If you can have too many cookers I hope that number is high, as I sit and look at my GMG DB prime, BGE XL, BGE mini max, MHO grill and Webber Q… (do I dare count my smaller Q, Weber Go Anywhere, and Volcano?
Mine keeps tripping Gfci. Strange thing it’s inconsistent. Sometimes it works great no issues but as soon as I’m having people over it seems to give me the most grief.
Got same GM for my husband for Father’s Day three years ago. Fricking wifi thing never worked right but biggest gripe is the whole thing is rusted. Huge flakes inside and out and I kept it covered in winter. Guess I need to keep it in my garage. Irritating and very disappointed I have to refinish the whole thing.
Great update. I have the same GMG. I’ve experienced this problem = 2X fire box pellet overflow that snuffs out the flame mid-cook. Had to take it all apart & vac it out & restart cook. Anyone else had this? Otherwise, I share all your likes/dislike. (SIDE NOTE: I own a pair of Jordan OG Blue/Blacks from the 80’s that haven’t seen sun since mid-80s sitting in my closet)
My GMG Daniel Boone is 3.5 years old and I'm not happy. It is rusting really badly (probably manufacture defect). The probes are always breaking and have to be replaced. The WiFi was broken on delivery and had to be replaced. The new igniter I got is going bad and the BBQ does not start on the first try. Customer service is good but at this point I feel like taking mine to the dump and buying a traeger.
I am curious if you use a cover or no cover when it is not in use and what region you live in. If you are in a wetter region like the pacific NW, I feel a cover is bad as it keeps the moisture in, increasing the rust rate. It may be better to air out to dry things up.
@@Ikevideos1 I agree with your comment about the cover keeping the moisture in. Im in Ontario, Canada. However, if I don't use the cover water will get into the WIFI system and destroy it along with the pellets. It's not the greatest design. I
I have the same one minus the WiFi. It's had 1 consistent problem...the right side is always hotter and will overcook anything if I don't rotate every couple of hours. It's annoying and I've tried everything to fix the issue.
Mine has an adjustable heat shield that can be adjusted left or right. If yours has that it may be as simple as sliding the heat shield to even out the heat side to side.
I have a Traeger 575 pro, it’s amazing! The WiFi is super easy to setup and use. Set it and forget it, put a brisket on in the morning, go on with my day, run errands and can monitor and adjust the temperature wherever I am.
Traeger app works great. For long cooks it can be a life saver. If you’re running errands and the meat hits temp you can set it to keep warm until you get home.
The wifi on mine does the same!! If you don't have the wifi connected before cooking, then it won't let you connect at all. I have had a bunch of issues with mine. I wish I would have bought a green egg instead!!!
Hes, the mic audio in the first video sounds SO much better than this one, there a reason you switched over to the rode? Sounded clearer/better before you switched, I am curious what made you change over to this format.
I'm debating getting this one or the Pit Boss 1100 leaning towards the GMG the wifi feature would be extremely helpful. Also you should do a review of different types of leather sandals to grill in 😂
I'd go w pit boss..ive had green mountain for 8 mos..its Easter Sunday..going to fo a big ol cookout..would not fire..its 8 mos old..I look like a complete idiot.
I bought my Jim Bowie w/WIFI for $799 (was miss-marked with the NON-WIFI price so they sold it to me if I bought it right then) I have found the WIFI feature is Just a Bell and Whistle, I never use it I only used it once....... It is hard to Cook something really wrong with one of these....... The main PROS too GMG for me are Down too 150 yea its only 10 degs but it makes a diff , and the GMG has much more headroom......
Question Hes. Does smoking fish leave a fishy smell behind? Will smoking fish make a difference in the meat you smoke after? Or is there no difference after fish has been smoked in the GMG?
The grill you have smokes very well, however, the new GMG Prime grills, do not smoke well at all. I find it to be a glorified outdoor pellet oven. I have had both. When they switched to the 12 volt models, I didn't like them. I purchased a pit boss cheap grill to smoke with.
Im glad you had success w yours..ive had mine mos..loved it until today..Easter Sunday..I babied that grill..im responsible for cooking supper for the family and extended family and was soooo excited to do a big grill out...WOW!!!!! DO I LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE FRICKEN FOOL....darn grill will not fire..8 months old..wow..sorry to say..had to resort to the webber charcoal grill ive had for years..it does not fail..I am so disappointed and disgusted cuz ive bragged this grill up and loved it. And now I'm the fool.
Contact GMG customer service. They are great and will help you out, and will likely send you replacement part(s) for free since it is so new. Had mine 3 years and old problem I've had is the igniter when bad and I replaced it for about $14 and now working great.
Traeger QC has gone to sh!t!! Being sold at all the crap stores as a John Deere. Friend has one and it feels like cheap sheet metal. The Green Mountain is built like a tank.
Not sure what happened to this company. My first one lasted 11 years still running. My second lasted 5 bags. I've call dozens of times. One snarky guy that acted put out when i hadn't replaced the fuse. Well didn't stop it from popping fuses. Id buy a different brand if i had invest this much into a grill. I've sent email to the customer service and not even a email back. deal said they will figure it out . Your only as good as your people . Just sad.
Don't buy GMG. Grill paint started peeling. Auger stopped working. Contacted them and they just say BS. It's out of stock. They won't replace it or sell me it. It's been 7 months. I contacted them and they stopped replying.
I’ll tell you the biggest con of these grills. Their temperature control, regulation, and accuracy is way off. The internal grill sensor and the probes can be +-50 degrees from truth and within different areas of the grill. It’s very amateurish and they’ve never done anything about it. You will NOT be smoking your food at the temp everyone you see online is talking about and you will get poor results and not know why. I’m telling you the reason is because your temperature is way different than what you think. Also, the seal between the lid and the body is very poor so you will be wasting a lot of smoke.
Not a sneaker vid today but a follow up to a vid I made 3 years ago! Have a good and safe 4th everyone!
Good review
I think the newer GMGs solved some of your cons. For example the app alerts you if the hopper alarm goes off. Setting up the WiFi into server mode when you need to leave the house is really simple to do. My biggest disagreement is the backing of the company. Every time I’ve emailed GMGs I get a response within hours and have shot rapid-fire emails back and forth to solve my issue. Amazing support.

Helpful video. Thanks!
Yeah but does it have boost?
The wifi on mine does the same!! If you don't have the wifi connected before cooking, then it won't let you connect at all. I have had a bunch of issues with mine. I wish I would have bought a green egg instead!!!
To use server mode you have to turn on your phone location function, prior to initiating server mode.
Hes, the mic audio in the first video sounds SO much better than this one, there a reason you switched over to the rode? Sounded clearer/better before you switched, I am curious what made you change over to this format.
Traeger WiFi works fine when your out and about. Use it all the time with ease.
Nice review. However, you didn’t answer your own question. If you could only choose one which one would it be?
You should know what we use on the Philippines
Anything that hole charcoal and a grill at the same time
GMG hands down!
Perfect July 4th video
The new prime plus covers most of your concerns.
Question Hes. Does smoking fish leave a fishy smell behind? Will smoking fish make a difference in the meat you smoke after? Or is there no difference after fish has been smoked in the GMG?
You won’t taste it. No difference.
I just took my Texas elite pro 34 or what ever traeger back to Costco for a 2nd time would not go past 350° I'm over it lookin for something else
BROOO MAKE GRILLING VIDEOS!!!! I wanna see you work that grill!!!
His is Hes separate from others. Smoker and Grill 🥩 🔥
When is the release date, do you see any resale potential besides it being fire personals?
Yeah my wifi says incorrect pw but its the serial...might be a knock off?
How does the cost of the pellets compare to charcoal?
So, how many words before you have to cut takes, and cut, cut, cut. Blink, blink, blink.
Why do people dislike before watching the video
The question is, what shoes you wear while using your bbq pit ???
Ed Jim Jim black shoes not white
The grill you have smokes very well, however, the new GMG Prime grills, do not smoke well at all. I find it to be a glorified outdoor pellet oven. I have had both. When they switched to the 12 volt models, I didn't like them. I purchased a pit boss cheap grill to smoke with.
Mine pumps out smoke for days
I have a Weber and want a good smoker. Pellet grills can’t out grill my Weber.
Dude.... I don't know about you, but I clean my drip pan after each cook.
It’s been years since I’ve seen u. Why don’t u make game videos anymore?
would you tie dye it?
HYDRODIP
In an old school Weber kind of guy
Really? If I’m grilling, I want to enjoy doing it. I’m not gonna sit in the house and use my phone to cook. Geez
brinkman is a good budget option grill
BIG MISTAKE DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY Less than a year of use and less than 12 times used. Unit will not ignite. Buy the Trager
Hi please do more nike outlet blogs and please show the soccer cleats too pls
I love these grill sneakers
dad life
Some say he uses the heat in his closet to heat the grill
I sense some ginger runner vibes
GMG for mine
Traeger QC has gone to sh!t!! Being sold at all the crap stores as a John Deere. Friend has one and it feels like cheap sheet metal. The Green Mountain is built like a tank.
Gmg is the best hands down
Check our Rec Tec Grills. Love both of mine.
Very cool grill but I love charcoal 🤷🏾♂️
These shoes are 🔥!!!!
Bro they fixed all those cons. Traegers are trash and like bursting into flames
I remember that video
“Hes Grills”
All over the wife situation, my wife won't look at my Traeger 3 years in
Absolutely hate my Green Mountain. Garbage. Rather have camp chef or smoke hallow
Cook some shoes up bro
Hes cooks
sneaker channel ?
That is a weird looking shoe
I’ll tell you the biggest con of these grills. Their temperature control, regulation, and accuracy is way off. The internal grill sensor and the probes can be +-50 degrees from truth and within different areas of the grill. It’s very amateurish and they’ve never done anything about it. You will NOT be smoking your food at the temp everyone you see online is talking about and you will get poor results and not know why. I’m telling you the reason is because your temperature is way different than what you think. Also, the seal between the lid and the body is very poor so you will be wasting a lot of smoke.
Does the heat spread evenly ???
