- How to install Android on iPad.
For years now this phrase & a number of variations of it have ranked at the top of the search terms in the statistics of blunty.tv/ as they wonder "Can I install Android on my iPad", trying to figure out of someone else has figured out the secret to "installing Android on the iPad"...
And I've gotta ask... WHY? Why would you WANT to do it?
Same goes for Installing android on the iPhone too, or people wanting to install Android on an iPod touch... hey, don't you hate it when people call it the "iTouch"? That shits me.

I got my iPad for free (I won it at my company Christmas party), can I have Android on MY iPad now?
Maybe people want to be able to switch...cuz I have an iPad and it would be cool to switch between iOS and android without buying a new tablet
It's not the end product, it's the joy that is involved in the process of modifying it. That is why you would do it.
I love the iPhone design but I want a android operating system and that is all it is to it-
Maybe i have old ipod and i want to test android on it ?
(continue) In this case, which means I have to bring 2 tablets every time I go. It is too stupid and heavy for me. Therefore I am looking for tablet that has ios and android system at the same time. Can this be a reason?
Wow. I'm glad you told us how to do it...
Dylan Adrian ikr 10/10
I understand that and completely agree, but would the OS even have driver support for a display with a much much higher resolution of the Retina display?
@Blunty3000 Honda Civic Engine?
Also do you have the same opinion about having windows on macs?
hi there i understand this isnt abo ut cameras but i have a samsung hmx q10 would a step up ring allow me to attach a fish eye or is the frame square so i cannot do that thanks :)
The pen example I can definitely tell you the reasoning behind, as I have done that in the past: The blue pen has a much better feel than any black pen available but the writer does not like the appearance of blue ink.
The same reasoning probably does not apply to tablets. After all, in my case the nice blue pen was free and I had plenty of black cartridges from cheap pens available.
maybe some people want to have apple hardware like the retina screen and pretty good processor and stuff like that have an Ipad don't feel like selling and buying something different and just want something simple to use android is a lot more user friendly plus it's open source and so the possibilities are endless yes maybe right now it isn't as smooth but as updates come out for the software I'm sure it'll just keep getting better again the beauty of android it can always get better
Buying new things costs money. It's the same reason many people have OSX on their PCs. Not to mention the whole "best of both worlds" idea. That's why I put OSX on my computer; I wanted to try out the OS in everyday life, but didn't feel like putting a couple grand down on an OS (since you're essentially paying that much money for a perfectly stable version of the OS when you know how to build computers yourself) I didn't even know I'd like. I don't really care for it, by the way.
Would android even be able to use the full functionality of the Retina display on the iPad 3?
okay what about my situation i got ipad3 as a present even thou i HATE apple with extreme content but i dont mind android so is it so wrong to want android on my ipad?
"because i can" is a perfectly fine strategy to find things to entertain myself. worked for me for years .. i run MacOSX in a VirtualBox on my PC .. that's just cool! Never used it though.
I think the "because I can" mentality is the reason. People like to do this kind of thing just because they're geeks and it's an interesting exercise. It has no real advantageous results, but it's just a fun thing to do.
It's just fun to mod stuff. Curiosity...I encourage it.
But Blunty how will i show my Ultra Trendy Hipster status without an Apple logo on the back of my Android tablet ?
Hey Blunty, watching this from the future on my "New" iPad. I can run Android on this and its battery life is 18 days.
It's maybe just a matter of preference for operating system. I am very used to Windows and, personally, don't like the Apple interface. However, when it comes down to tablets, the iPad still has a minor advantage in some fields, I believe.
If it doesn't exist already, I want to see is a tablet device with free choice of operating system. Basically, an empty shell. Maybe it already exists?
man I can't wait for the next gen android tablets , so I can sell my iPad 2 ahhh
I think tablets need to be like computers. You can build your own and load up software, or just buy an empty one.
I have to LMFAO this dude drove me up the wall.
My iPhone 3G stop getting updates in November 2010, that's three years since i first bought it in 2008. While my Galaxy S1 only get updates for 2 years and I don't have ICS on it now (i know you can update to ICS with other means but it is not official from samsung)
Hell, I'd try it just to see where it takes me. Trying different things like that is what I enjoy. For example, I had heard a lot about linux from some people so I decided to try it out. Sure, I may have had no use for it at the time but going through and learning how to set up a second os on my hard drive, learning how to partition properly, and how to set dual booting have all left me with a better understanding of how a computer works.
maybe they bought an ipad, and then later played around with a friends android, and liked that better
so way you put on ANDROID you i pad ?
Hey Blunty,
Does it make sense?
because its fun
@Shalkification I call it the iTouch, it saves another 2 syllables.
is there a linux tablet?
Only reason I can think of would be to do a comparable hardware benchmark. There is currently no benchmarking tool out there that can accurately compare the hardware specs of the ios devices with those of android.
What if you got the ipad for free for what ever reason, like say some give away, but you prefer the Android OS. How ever you do not have cash for said tablet out of box ect. Good enough reason?
Thanks for answering the original question.
DUDE YOU REMIND ME OF... Dr. Perry Cox from Scrubs.... and that is.. Awesome!
Maybe he wanted petrol in the beginning, but after some time had a change of heart :D... just shooting in the dark here
oo how bout if i was entered in a contest to get a tablet, but all they gave away were ipads, u still entered bc it's free and ur a fan of android, so you try to find a way to make ur free ipad an android. good?
but what if the person change their mind after buying an iPad and think its not as good as an android os so they just switch?
Well just this past week I have been looking into phones because I am looking to finally take the plunge into smartphones. I wanted android but the most important aspects to me was a good camera, a good screen, and a good battery - I didn't need big performance, I'm not trying to game. What I described was basically an iPhone, for the most part. In the end, I am just going to get a Galaxy S3, but if I didn't want to wait, or was doing this before the Nexus, things may of been different.
Because I may want to use a specific app that is exclusive to Android but does not warrant a purchase of an android device? That specific app may not have an Ios equivalent.
Haha love the analogies
Why do people dual boot linux and windows?
what about IOS on Droid?
Someone who actually makes sense. Refreshing.
(continue) However, I actually found an app on android which allows me to type by using Cantonese pinyin method straightly type into the place that I want to use Chinese (not copy and paste). But you may say I can just buy an Android tablet to fix this problem. Then my second reason comes up, there are some apps I found on ios are not available on Android and some android app are not available on ios.
WARNING: Bluntly looks like he is gonna explode while explaining something to the camera. This video is gonna be hillarious.
I want to put Android system into my ipad 2, and at the same time I want to keep the ios system. I want to do that is because of 2 reasons 1) I am Chinese from Hong Kong, not from mainland China, so I don't know how to type Chinese in mandarin pinyin method; If I want to use Cantonese pinyin method on ipad, I have to download an app, then type by using that, then copy and paste it to the place that I want to put the words in.
It does make sense. I would love to instal android on my ipad 3. Great hardware + great software = awesome experience.
I am curious how many people clucked your article with an excitement XD
Is it strange that you remind me of tony stark blunty? you know with all the gadgets and stuff
I'm no car-guy, but I watch a lot of Top-Gear... and I'm pretty sure the VW Golf comes in a Diesel variant... if you wanted Diesel why did you buy a petrol one?
Here's a good reason I'd want Android on my iPad.
To piss you off and fuel the fire that keeps your awesome videos going ;)
This man reminds me of my uncle, he is savvy with technology, Australian AND (sorry for the play on words), he is very blunt with what he says, blunt but right
If this could be easily done and have it work I would do it in a heart beat to my iPad. The only thing is I still want expandable memory.
Blunty, the reason why we want to install Android on iPad. Is to check out the OS on a tablet. Some of us don't want to fork over 100$+ on a Android tablet; just to find out we don't like it. Wheres we could just install it on an iPad.
Adobe flash player doest work with IOS
Then why did u do it
Pizza analogy ftw!
Only reason i can think of is to get flash support on that sweet retina display.
HAHA 5.33 Just let it gooo......*fluttering*
Indeed.
Maybe it's like using Bootcamp on Macbook. Want Macbook but use Window with it.
As a software developer I just cannot look past the technical shortcomings that IOS has. True, it looks a lot more polished than Android, but Android is just so much more capable once you get down to the innards of both OS'es.
On the other hand I think Apple makes the best hardware out there, period.
As an owner of a Galaxy Nexus, which is my 6th android phone since the original HTC Dream, I'm always left craving for better, more robust and non-plasticky hardware in Android phones and tablets.
Its like buying Pepsi...and then adding shit to it at home, trying to get it to taste like Coke!
I actually found more COMPLETE ipad copies while searching for an android tablet here in croatia, than any other kind of android tablet...
well, blunty told me on my post want i told u on ur post so hmmm idk
you make a good point
I need to run Android Ice Cream Sandwich to run Google Drive (Which is believed to be coming out soon on iOS.) and the Chrome Browser. The Mobile Chrome feature that allows you to have histories, bookmarks and the webpage synced anywhere on Android ICS Chrome browsers and on desktop, so i don't have to manually search it up... thats just mind blowing innovation!
My reasoning for getting android OS on an idevice is if it were a hand me down. I currently have an iphone that was given to me as a gift, but much prefer android because of its customization. The only thing iOS has as far as that is wallpaper. Idevices seem extremely limited compared to android devices. That said, it might not be enough to actually convince anyone to apply the change. I am merely stating my own personal opinion.
You are a philosopher mr. Blunty.
It would be like getting Razer's "Fiona" tablet and asking how to put Android on it (which I might, but I will be using VMWare and the Intel port)
In the same vein, I am far from a photographer and as a result I find it difficult to comprehend that people spend so much money play around with their settings and lenses so much to get a (from a non-enthusiast's viewpoint) marginally better photo quality to a standard £50 digicam on default settings which is easier to operate for me.
As far as I'm concerned it is nothing more than a difference of value and I don't think it's fair for you to blanket bomb a different community with such hate.
Look at all those dislikes, must be people who wanted to install android
Im pretty sure the question was ….what.? You are so right , thanks
I own a 3gs and I'm waiting for the iPhone 5 to come out to upgrade. I'd like to chuck android on it to try something different before I buy another apple product for $1000 +.
Can... can you tell me how to put WebOS on my Nintendo DS? *troll face* Ok, I'm not good at this... Um... I agree? Two different devices, we have tons of different tablets to choose from... Gah, what was I talking about?
I take it you don't like jail breaking an iPhone or rooting android devices?
I think it's simply that if a person already owns an iOS device and bought it because it better suits their needs, but they would like to use some features that are specific to Android. I feel like it's partially the same mentality of the people that install Windows on their Mac computers; just to get a piece of both worlds.
What if a flying dish demon came Down and said give me an iPad that runs on android or else I'll do flying fish demon things
I want to put Android on an iPad to feel like the Dr. Frankenstein of tablet software!
I feel u blunt blunt
As for why you wouldn't just sell it, maybe that person would like to check it out first insead of going through the hassle of packing/selling/buying
@Blunty3000
The only reason I could think of is one would be too broke after buying an iPad to afford an Android tablet.
I know! Because it makes a very good TH-cam rant.
watched this on my Motorola XOOM :)
good to know
I'd do it just to collect all the apple fanboy tears in jars and start up my very own wandering shop to travel the globe and sell them.
Cant wait for the Asus Infinity thats due Q3 2012 and runs Android on a 1920x1200 screen :D
well I'd do it because there is a very limited selection if any of licensed anime cases for android, so sadly it's an aesthetic thing.
I am getting so many giggles from the way you handle these peoples bullshit. But i still wanna do It just to see I if can.
Well I installed Windows on my mac ONLY to say that I have windows on my mac (:
I think the point is that a lot of people go the 'save' route of buying an iPad because they know that they get a high quality product with a good value.
However they might get bored with iOS and want to try Android without the need of buying an additional 500$ tablet to see if it suits them better.
a voice of reason
hm...jow about mac or whatever ipad uses on an android pad THAT would run smoothly
Only reason i can come up with is nitwits saying "haha i have an IPad but its running an Android system haha im soo cool like that!" so...In my actual reason is that there are different programs u can do? i guess but nothing concrete for a reason though.
For the same reason some people buy mac computers and bootcamp to devote their entire hard drive to Windows. :P
How about this, you want the look of an iPad but you want the OS of android?
Just like you want the design of toyota but with the Honda engine?
Stupid reason but possible, the world is big enough to allow this possibility after all =.=
yooo screen is retna and android is the best os out there, combine them you got the best tablet. but it s not runnig smoothly, you are right
No, a design wants it to test WITHOUT having to get an Android/iOS simulation.
well as far as i know the iPod is praised by many for its aesthetic design. also many people like to buy apple products just to be able have bragging rights. It would be good for and an android lover to own a physical iPad to fulfill their aesthetic and/or need for attention and praise for owning an iPad
