There is a "hack" (on the tube) for plowing gravel driveways without scraping up all the gravel. Black plastic pipe bolted to the bottom of the blade. It's round so it should slide over the gravel where the blade would cut into the driveway. Just a thought. Dave
That works ok on flat ground. But it leaves to much that just turns to ice on any kind of hill. Best thing to do is make your piles so that they aren’t in the yard and you put the gravel back on the drive when it thaws.
We just pack the first snow storm and then plow after that because we have snow on the ground from the beginning of November till the end of March. I plowed yesterday and will probably have to do it again in a few days.
So I watch all of your videos most are great, but this one I think you need to think about a redo. Here is why you should have used the chain on top and let the bottom pivot like it did on the truck. That is how mine is setup and it floats well. Your setup you will have to move the controls a lot to keep ground contact. It also would let it jump if you hung a curb. If you hang your it is likely to tweak the loader frame. I would consider reworking to to let it pivot and use the a chain on the top, so it can float. I have bent a load frame, huge pain to get it back right.
Paul clean the front on the snow plow, and give it a good paint job. The snow will slide right off. Once you get the hydraulics plumbed you will really like it. Great video.
We live in Canada where I am driving on snow for 5 to 6 months a year, but now I have a local farmer clear the 1km private road and driveway. I love when we get a good dump of snow, a long walk with the dogs, a warm fire in the living room, hot coffee and a nice quiet day. One year we got 4m (13 feet) of snow, which was a bit much, the kids were climbing up the snow drifts and stepping on to the roof. Good memories.
Enjoy it. We never really see much in the UK these days. Not in the Midlands anyway. Used to get full on drifts some years. Now we get sleet/slush at best.
Fab rats your channel make my soul happy you guys are always doing something fun and exciting to watch ever since I found your channel I've been hooked
Hi, Fab Rats family just wanted to let you know about something we’ve come across when we noticed a cough from your man of the house! Look up WELDERS COUGH and the serious side effects caused by the off gassing/smoke the welders inhale that will cause serious health lung risks! Stay healthy live long with healthy lungs!
I'm so gealous you guys get actual weather. You show us glorious sunshine in summer and you get snow in winter. In the UK it's essentially cloud/mist/rain and greyness for most of the year with just a few weeks of sun (and heavy rain storms) in the summer.
Nice job. on the plow. Only thing different I'd have done is made the plow float. Hinge the bottom connection and use chains. Makes a difference on a loader unless you are running it in float mode. Otherwise you dig too much gravel.
LIke I said in my original post, Unless he is running in float mode. I ran a setup very similar. But even in float mode the issue with it being rigid is that you are constantly having to adjust the tilt of the blade(bucket) according to ground conditions. Where as if it is hinged, it will do a much better job without gouging in. Been there, done that. Great reuse of a blade and still MUCH MUCH better than that box blade. Personally, I use a bucket on the front and a snow blower on the 3-point, but we get much more snow that I'm sure Paul gets.
Get the hydraulics working and put some wings on and you really be happy. That little bit of a "cup" on the ends really hold a lot more snow, making cleanup much easier.
Add 45 degree wings. You can control the snow and wind row from spillage. Don’t hack the bucket either. You’re just not using a big enough one. Drive till buckets full then go dump it exactly where you want it. Somewhere it properly drains
You sould put a piece of rubber sandwiched in between the cutting edge and leave it about 2 inches and it works great for plowing, and it doesn’t make so much noise. It will not damage your concrete.
Sitting back after a work Saterday watching you guy's all bundled up while I'm enjoying 76degree sunshine here in EL Paso Tx havin a cup o coffee and a cigarette on my porch! 😁 wishin I was there instead!👍
Love the project, but a note of caution. If you end up hitting something with an angle blade on a loader you have a good chance of bending the boom, a better design is a 'Snow Pusher'.
I've done this exact thing a few times. I'm not one to critique. When I do them. I find for me it's better to hinge the plow frame at the base run a stinger at the top with a chain down to the frame. That'll allow the blade to float
I did this with a roughly 6' meyers plow about 10 years ago, it has been one of the best tractor/loader upgrades ever. Didn't have the prebuilt QD's though, I might have to look them up.
Great video and thanks for the reminder i need to sharpen my grader blade an maybe some new inserts to hold the 3 adjustment parts as it sometimes has a mind of its own
Put some wings on the plow it’ll work 10x better and you’ll love it even more. Smart man making a $2,000 peace of equipment from some stuff laying around the yard
Well done, that is some fine fabrication work. It's also really great to see you using all your storage space keeping the projects inside. Don't get wiped out by the snow Paul, we need you intact. A really big thank you for editing out the grinding and cutting noises, it is so appreciated. I know its a fabrication channel, but the machine noises are overwhelming sometimes. Great job guys!!
We use strips of that radial rubber old mining belt and sandwich it between the blade and plow. It takes a bit to wear it down but it’s easier on cement and the wet snow we get here I utah it squeegees really nice. If you do it only allow 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to hang free. It’s awesome for four wheeler snow plows to because when you hit the lips on a sidewalk it will give a little. Better than going over the handle bars.
Works great. I have to say I prefer being in my pickup with the heater, radio and a cup of coffee, but it saved you finding a pump to nail it to one of those square bodies you have around.
11 years ago I found an old 84 square body with a nice Fisher plow for $3,000. The only maintenance I’ve done is oil changes, an alternator belt and a front axle u joint. I used it yesterday and will be using it again in a few days.
Same here. Much nicer to sit inside with coffee, heat and defrost when plowing snow. On my 1960's PowerWagon that they called the Beast the radio was more of a visual accessory that you could only hear when the engine was off since the big block V8 and factory straight through exhaust would drown out any radio (available back then) or conversation for that matter. I would have just left the plow factory and mounted the standard snow plow spring latches on the John Deer quick connects so I'd have the option to hook that up to what looks like a standard Western Plow Frame on any pickup truck and use the chain to suspend it. That way it pivots on the pins and floats as it should lowering the chance of flipping the blade on the overloads. Personally I prefer the heavier duty and more adjustable Fisher design with just the scraping edge that flips back to the fold over Western design that flips the whole blade flat when it overloads. Had to rescue too many with the Western plows who overloaded the blade and in a heartbeat ended up high centered on the snow load left when the blade flipped over and the front wheels of the truck ran up and over the banking. On a lot like Pauls though a Butterfly plow blade might be the best of both worlds due to its ability to turn into a standard V, straight/L/R angled, reverse V, right angle or left angle plow. Get a hard facing rod to treat 6 to 12 inches along the bottom of the scraper from each edge towards the center of the blade before it starts to wear and it will last a lot longer. Then every now and then just touch it up before any substantial wear occurs and life is good. Best!
Great video!! Anything that make something better is always a great idea! Looks like you just saved yourself a bunch of hours in the cold when moving snow!! Great job!!
Best purchase I made for my John Deere tractor was snow chains, it goes everywhere now and I don’t have to fire up the wrecker anymore to pull myself out lol. Love your guys channel. From (Troys Off-road Towing and Recovery@ TH-cam). Keep up the creative work guys.
I have converted one for a skid steer . Using the shoes on the plow helps with the gravel we just roll the plow back when needed and can still scrape the concrete clean
Yeah moving snow with that bucket is like shoveling a load of manure out the truck with a garden trowel, that will be even more efficient when you sort the hydraulics out👍👍 Edit spelling
I think you might like it better if the blade floats. That's how they are set up on trucks. You will probably find that it digs in too much on uneven ground unless you are constantly adjusting it with your bucket controls.
That's a great improvement for you guys. You put it to the test with that wet heavy snow and didn't break anything. Now you can send Hunter to plow driveways and make his payroll back for you 😂😂. Great job guys and Michelle can make it to work now. Best part was seeing the tow truck back to work and running awesome 👍.
Front plow is a great addition. I used to install wings on mine, the angle of the wings, when installed allowed more efficient clean up while still allowing you to use the blade at an angle.
May wanna pull the pivot pin and drill it for a grease fitting, the slides on the blade should be adjustable so you don't dig the gravel up, we used a peice of 3/8" plate to make ours, tried to get the father I law to put third function on his for the blade
I have wanted to do that on our tractor for a while... but i was going to put the lift bracket as close to the angle pivot as the geometry of the angle would allow... it would bring the blade closer to the tractor, make it easier to lift and allow for bracing to the front and rear.
I plowed snow for numerous years when I lived in Fairbanks Alaska. Just me, my 1975 Chevy truck with a 9' plow, it was like therapy. Was always happy to see snow in the forecast. My route took about 14 hours. Moved to Washington State, now I have to walk behind my snowblower, can't justify a truck and plow in the development. 🌨🌨🌨
Sometimes things like that can be the best thing for the mind, and to just get away from everything and have fun at the same time as doing something good for yourself and the people around you!
My folks live on the east side of the mountains in Washington. They get tons of snow. They also live 1000' above town in Chelan and have a super long steep driveway. They have a tractor for plowing but mostly use their 4wd quads with a plow on it as it is quicker. Food for thought. Very cool though.
I know we all love the guys on Fab Rats but does anyone else shake their heads when Paul says "square tubing". I mean I say "Square stock" it just gets under my skin for some reason when he says that🤔. LMAO. Love the show you guys are doing great keep it up. Paul are you going to build a box or a ol' drum mounted to the 3-point to put scrap or something in for some weight and a set of chains would do wonders, but I'm sure you know all this..🤙
If youre ever in Wisconsin and you want some felt to cover equipment up with ill give you as much as you want. It's not water proof but it does help keep the snow off at least
Snow plows are handy and pretty awesome. We lived 1/4 mile from the main road in the mountains of NC when I was a teenager. Every year we plowed the road numerous times, and every spring we had to add new gravel. So, Paul, be prepared to haul in some new stone when spring arrives.
All that fun and some scenery too.Yay ! The snow covered truck drifting into the drive made me wonder which son, then I recovered from 'Duh' and recalled the Dakota colors would show in snow. ;) . Like the new plowing set-up. Sheet metal screws for ice traction?
I’ve been watching you guys for a few years now, I guess I love all the mechanics you guys do. But one other thing that is apparent in the videos recently, is all the cover you have now. The new building, the over hang in front. Isn’t that nice? There’s only one problem… there ain’t enough of it…😂… but great job on adding that stuff, and I’m sure you’ll be adding more… protection from the elements makes life so much more fun! Keep up the good work fellas… I’ll keep watching!
I'm SOOOO glad I don't live in the snow!!! Was stationed in Brunswick, Maine for a year and a half. Snow and ice caused me to wreck my beautiful little '69 912. Black ice - 35 miles per hour - slid sideways into a 4 foot diameter oak tree - right behind the drivers side C pillar - bent the car in half! One day got up early to shovel about three inches of snow off the driveway - I had OD duty that day. Just as I got through, the city snow plow came through and piled up a three foot high by 5 foot wide pile at the entrance to my driveway, Thank you very much, NOT!!! Now it doesn't snow very much here in South West, GEORGIA, thank you so very much more!!
I know y'all probably aren't fans but dang that snow was gorgeous. Living where we never see that makes me really want to visit when it's going to look like that some time.
It looks pretty until the salt and sand trucks run by making things all brown, gray and nasty. Then the mud if you get hit by a mid winter Indian Summer causing ice water to get below the frost layer and kill that years and perhaps a few more years fruit crop if it gets down to the roots. Best!
I always tried to have the snow equipment ready around thanksgiving so it was ready when the snow came never ever wanted to do it on a snowy day but I had people relying on me to get their lots plowed!!! And then every now and then had something break that needed fixing during a storm and was always a nightmare if I didn’t have the particular part in stock and made me get behind in getting the jobs done!!!
I’ll bet! My Boss, farm, just got a Case 920 and it is an absolute hoot in the snow! I can bury a pickup with one load! He did ask I not do that again 😅😂🤣🙏❤️😎🤙🛻💨
Been Plowing snow for 20 years. Missed the "fun" part. No sleep and everybody hating on you even though you're the one helping them out. My guess is you have not plowed snow.
@@Utubegofukurself ITs fun for the first 2 times and then it is not fun. Long days no sleep and not to mention the toll on your body from the back and forth and hitting the piles of snow.
@@UtubegofukurselfNot professionally, just my 300 foot driveway in Canada. The way things are going here, we don't get much snow anymore so there may not be much of a future for plowing. Raining in January and February in the Prairies.
Anyone that says plowing is fun has never done it for a couple days straight. Just to keep the warehouse lot cleared so your amazon package isn't late.
I live in Cape Breton Nova Scotia Canada and in the last week or so we got hit with 200 cm's of snow in two storms. 150 cm's the first time and 50 cm's the second time a few days later. That's 6 and a half feet of snow. We are still buried here. Great video as always love the channel.
Paul, you probably already know this but don't forget your adjustable floaters or feet on the bottom of the blade. Otherwise, you may lose a lot of gravel off your roads when you plow.
As a veteran of relocating the annual fluffy white stuff, that plow should have been put on the short wheelbase free truck.... just saying, as heat and no wind make the job less sucky..
I think now you’ve got a good working snow plow and it will be easy to deal with large amounts of snow it won’t snow. I’ve got a snowblower I’ve never had to use. 😂
There is a "hack" (on the tube) for plowing gravel driveways without scraping up all the gravel. Black plastic pipe bolted to the bottom of the blade. It's round so it should slide over the gravel where the blade would cut into the driveway. Just a thought. Dave
its his driveway. He didnt make the video has a "How To". unfollow the channel and go back to your hole ,Troll !
That works ok on flat ground. But it leaves to much that just turns to ice on any kind of hill. Best thing to do is make your piles so that they aren’t in the yard and you put the gravel back on the drive when it thaws.

Replacing the missing foot would help too
The pipe idea works my farmer friend showed me that years ago he had a metal pipe tho
I’ve been watching your channel since the first Tacoma Rollover video. Your videos just make life better. Thanks for the awesome content!

Paint? That might ruin the Rat Rod look.
Just on the face of the blade. I know they don’t want to tarnish their image. But the snow will roll off the plow and not just push the way it is now.
just apply car wax to it. save the rat rod look and the snow won't stick to the wax.
We live in Canada where I am driving on snow for 5 to 6 months a year, but now I have a local farmer clear the 1km private road and driveway.

Pretty slick. Gotta' have good access when the white stuff gets thick.

Look up WELDERS COUGH and the serious side effects caused by the off gassing/smoke the welders inhale that will cause serious health lung risks!

I like how you guys recycle and reuse and repurpose so many things that other folks would just throw away or junk out!
Nice mid-winter project to finish the same day you started. Michelle will be proud!
Plowing snow is great! A perfect way to turn your brain off and just relax and enjoy!

I have converted one for a skid steer . Using the shoes on the plow helps with the gravel we just roll the plow back when needed and can still scrape the concrete clean
Getting the right tool for the job is important. Good job. Buy the way i think you need to move that sweet Firebird under a roof.
need to flap disk and paint the front, then spray it with Pam! the rusty metal created alot of friction and the snow doesn't roll off

Yeah moving snow with that bucket is like shoveling a load of manure out the truck with a garden trowel, that will be even more efficient when you sort the hydraulics out👍👍

I grew up in the snow belt in Ontario Canada, you just described the 1st 50 yrs of my life.
I live in Brunswick, Maine.
Yes You too may know snow and cold.@@roncarguy72
I know y'all probably aren't fans but dang that snow was gorgeous. Living where we never see that makes me really want to visit when it's going to look like that some time.
You should try Homer Alaska in January,, should be more snow than you know what to do with😁
Trust me snow isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Snow is cold and wet.
It looks pretty until the salt and sand trucks run by making things all brown, gray and nasty. Then the mud if you get hit by a mid winter Indian Summer causing ice water to get below the frost layer and kill that years and perhaps a few more years fruit crop if it gets down to the roots.
Best!
“Visit” is the key word.
Plowing snow is fun, you just need more of it to really enjoy it. My old 455 with loader was ideal to move large amounts of snow. Embrace Winter!
You had more snow there than we had all winter. We have had rain the last two storms!
That was a good-looking 4x4 Ford you have.
Looks like it pushed the wet stuff around well. Doesn't get any harder than that. Thank you for your time.
I use "edge tamers" on my front end loader bucket to clear snow. Just put in float mode and push
Paul, you probably already know this but don't forget your adjustable floaters or feet on the bottom of the blade. Otherwise, you may lose a lot of gravel off your roads when you plow.
Add a couple of chains cup top to help carry the load
Another project perfectly completed, it is so cool to be able to build or adapt things to work as you want to. Hats off to the "Fab Rat's ".
Thank you for the shout back, if I'm ever able to get out that way I surely want to stop in.
Normally we get snow in Minnesota but today it's 65° I am fine, just fine
As a veteran of relocating the annual fluffy white stuff, that plow should have been put on the short wheelbase free truck.... just saying, as heat and no wind make the job less sucky..
Love grandmas tT shirt @ 19:27
Nice job there making an old plow into a much more efficient snow removal mechanism. Thanks for the video. Michelle, we are missing you.
Love seeing somebody make something out of nothing. Good job boy's, you too Hunter.
This is on my to do list. I need to make a plow for my tele-handler so I can plow snow on my job-site.
I would suggest you need to put a support brace from the bottom section Of the plow to the upper section that connects to the Tractor
15:58 Yeah just like those pieces I knew you'd get that
Well Done!
I think now you’ve got a good working snow plow and it will be easy to deal with large amounts of snow it won’t snow. I’ve got a snowblower I’ve never had to use. 😂
I have a snow thrower with like 10 hours on it. About 2hours per winter since I bought it lol.
I used to push snow with a loader not too different than that tractor and the biggest thing was tire chains.
Re-purposing is good. Enjoyed the metalwork.
