  • Here is some more April lake trout action from beautiful Lake Champlain! This was my second trip out after lakers on the boat this year. On the first time out, I zipped over to a shallow hump in the southern end of the lake and tried to catch some fish using spinning tackle, but had to resort to trolling after I couldn't pin down exactly where the trout were. This second time out was to a different location and ended up being a phenomenal day, almost exactly how I would've liked the first outing to go! Enjoy!

    that rod just exploded!

Absolutely detonated haha. Watching the slow mo I can’t tell if the tip snapped first or if I dragged the rod over the rail when it was bent over. Was pretty spectacular either way!

Can I ask you guys a question: I fish only in far northern Ontario lakes. I mostly troll bc fish finders are too heavy to portage. How can I find spots to cast/jig like you guys without fish finders?

I use Navionics to find places on the lake where I know they’ll be at different times of the year. This spot is on the broad part of Lake Champlain, and is only about 20 feet deep, but there is a sharp drop off to 100-150ft just west of the ledge. They’re usually there in the spring right up until the water reaches 55 or 60 degrees, then they head for deeper water chasing baitfish. Same in the summer, I find humps that are about 100ft deep and surrounded by even deeper water. The lakers will tend to stack up on these humps when the surface temperature hits 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Check out some of my lake trout jigging videos if you haven’t already, I go pretty in depth in a video I published a couple summers ago! Good luck my friend! 😎

@@WoodsNorth Thanks. Sorry I’m late on this. I’ve downloaded the app. The app is asking if I want to download maps. Do you have to pay for that?

It doesn’t cost anymore to download maps, but there is a limit on how much data you can have downloaded from the app at one time. If I know I’m going somewhere without cell service I’ll download the depth chart in advance, there’s a few lakes in Northeast VT by the Canadian border that I know are out of cell phone range that are loaded on my phone currently. I pay yearly for charts for US & Canada and I think it’s like $35-$40USD per year, and I’ve never been charged extra for downloading anything
