This reminds me of a story I was told years ago. Down at my local renascence fair. Someone edited over a photo of one of the volunteers and posted it to FaceBook as their own costume. The volunteer had to send photos of her body and costume to the FBI to get the photos taken down. Seeing this kind of story pop up more is disturbing.
I remember my sister was trying to get something from Shein and asked me if I could share so she could get some store credit I told her about some of the creator theft they have done and sent a link to the video where the theorist discussed Sheins theft and I think she stopped shopping there. This isn't something that can't be sidestepped. It's the exact situation with food and artificial ingredients. Brands now have a way to stand out as ethical by getting consent and signing deals with the creators instead of using AI to remove their likeness. Whichever method the customers want will get the bigger slice of the market pie.

It's more than just Temu! My Mom got off Facebook because someone used a phony message to get her to click on a link. The person stole all her contacts & sent phony messages to her friends posing as her. Facebook wouldn't answer her emails or phone calls, so she quit.

Since I watch a lot of callout videos I found that the personalized ad system on TH-cam is incapable anymore of recommending me stuff I would be interested in so I have been using ad blockers to try and remove those scams from what I watch.
Theft is getting easier and easier to pull off, especially in the online world. Makes me glad I’m not one of these influencers or creators but I genuinely feel for them, they’re fighting an uphill battle.
It reminds me of an advertisement I saw recently for an Ai program to help with editing footage that also just so happens to have the ability to remove watermarks, and I just remember doing a double take on that part as I realized the implications of having easy access to doing so
It's a Chinese company. In order to get them banned there you need to convince the CCP they're a threat to the CCP. Are influencers' rights a problem for the CCP? No. Especially if they're not in China. So you can't touch them.
We shouldn't be surprised, China doesn't have copyright laws like we do. And the memes about being made in china in a sweatshop is a meme for a reason - it really happens. From video games, mobile games, and websites, to straight up stealing and recreating knock-offs of identities and fast fashion made by exploiting children in poverty to give you the unreasonably low costs.
I need this copyright problem talked about on Film Theory...we use clips from movies on our movie channel and it is definitely fair use, but we get hit with copyright claims...sometimes not from the actual studio. What is happening and what could happen when the world (or TH-cam) have to face the consequences of letting randos file copyright infringement when there wasn't any infringement.
What if creators got their audiences to review bomb the products, specifically pointing out that the images are fraudulent? Sure it might get caught by spam filters, but they wouldn't be lying AND it would actually maybe ping something in the store's systems
