      @@KathyLuluandDonna As Anthony said above, I saw him in London on May 28. Have seen him several [maybe 8] times, my YT handle is taken from another awesome track of his - I guess you could call me a fan!!!! He was AWESOME, his thing is totally TONE and FEEL: he is getting better and is 79 going on 39. This is probably the shortest clip of this song out there, from 50 years ago, nowadays it usually runs at 9-11 minutes. I enjoyed your reaction👍👍👏👏 , this is a recording of the show I was at th-cam.com/video/Ybr0GIszgRg/w-d-xo.html , BoS effecfively starts at 41:30, finishes at 50:30. Listen [not crazy] loud and with eyes closed, is magical.

    Robin Trower is legendary guitarist and a master of his craft, he's way up there with those, let's just say, who are spoken about more often in the music press; get well soon Robin. James Dewar was a wonderful vocalist, he had a voice that was not only powerful but one which also had a wonderful smooth soulful timbre to it, he sadly passed away in Scotland in 2002. Greetings ladies from the Scottish Highlands.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    This is literally blues with a historical bent. The Bridge of Sighs was from a prison (in Venice) in in olden times where the condemned crossed to be executed. Which explains many lyrics like "cold wind blows and gods looks down in anger on this poor child..." and "why so unforgiven, and why so cold? 'been a long time crossing Bridge of Sighs" Wonderful track.
    He has so many other great songs. Among the suggested would be, "Little Bit of Sympathy", "My Love", "Day of the Eagle". Have fun with this ride!

    Fun reaction. Robin Trower is a great guitarist, still playing and releasing albums today. James Dewar was the singer for Robin's band in this clip & through the 70's when they were big. I would recommend hearing some studio songs, since Trower's guitar sound is huge and rich, and Dewar's voice is very rich too. This clip is a bit thin and muddy. This album (Bridge of Signs) was popular, so try Day of Eagle, Too Rolling Stoned, and Bridge of Sighs (studio) from it. In This Place is a beautiful ballad from the same album.

    I saw this tour in Toronto in 1976, James Dewar, the bassist here, is a great singer. Robin is a stellar guitarist very much inspired by Jimi Hendrix.
    I saw them the next year in Pontiac Michigan, James singing and playing percussion, a new bassist ex of Sly and the Family Stone, as was the drummer. This was their 2nd album. I love 'Day of the Eagle' from 'Bridge of Sighs', my first band also played 'Too Rolling Stoned.'
    From their first album I love 'Daydream', 'Hannah' and 'I Can't Stand It'.
    He also has one called 'Alethea', I named my daughter Alathea.
    From his Procol Harum days, I'd recommend 'Whiskey Train', not so typical of the band, but a cool, rockin', bluesy workout for Robin.
    Happy Birthday again to the young bug-eater. 😊❤😂🦐🍤

    Robin Trower.. 1st concert i went to . It was 1974. Because my cousin would stack records on the turn table we were not sure which one it was so we got really confused at the concert. There was supposed to be only one other band. The 1st one that played was really good. Then 2nd one and it was OK but then before the lights came back on all of a sound there was intense GUITAR!!! Robin Trower starting with In the "Day of the Eagle" It made the place come alive. . The other bands ... Ruby Starr opening and a band we never heard of called Fleetwood Mac. I would recommend ..."Little Bit Of Sympathy"

    Donna, I bet you were a blast in your stompin' days. Oh man, you ladies have fallen onto one of the most under rated and under appreciated guitarists ever. Robin Trower is an absolute master. His songs took you on journeys and always had soul. James Dewar played the bass and sang the vocals. James had one of the best voices rock n roll has ever heard. James vocals brought the same soul and Robin's guitar, together they were a perfect match. Robin did an album with the legendary bass player Jack Bruce of Cream fame. The album is called "Seven Moons" - there are several really good songs on it. Jack Bruce was one of the best bass players ever and he had a voice you knew by the first note he sang. He was simply on another level. He did some solo work that is some of the best in my library - damn he was good. Jack, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton made up Cream. Cream changed the rock n roll world and advanced guitar playing 10 years at least.

    The inspiration for this song is an actual bridge in Venice, Italy. There is quite a story to it that I encourage you to research. The lyrics will take on a more complete meaning in light of the bridge's story. Ponte dei Sospiri....The gods look down in anger on this poor child.
    Great choice for this guitar legend. You will hear people recommend the entire Bridge of Sighs album and I heartily agree! Limiting myself to one song- Too Rolling Stoned is probably my pick.

    • @forearthbelow
      @forearthbelow 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, the inspiration you mention had nothing directly to do with the name of the tune. Robin has somewhere out there stated that he had the tune and words but NOT the title for the song. He said he got that from the name of a horse he saw featured on the front of a daily horseracing paper here in the UK called The Racing Post which some random guy was reading!!! I actually think the tune is the finest ever written in rock 'anthem' history: it can be played short/medium/long, slow or more upper tempo, loud , louder or subtle, aggressively or gently, allowing each note and the spaces to complete their cycle in the job of transporting the listener to some magical place. AWESOME.

Like many places in the old country, it seems like a magical place - Florence is 'my' place.
      One curious thing about the BoS tune, for me, is that I was hooked for life as a fan from the opening bars of 'I Can't Wait Much Longer' and Robin has said that he no longer plays ICWML as it is too similar.
