    My favorite part to watch is the introduction of foster moms. Who chooses who, what tactics they use to entice the little ones, and of course that first acceptance hug!

    My favorite part of all of what you do is release day. New moms and family is the goal and it is awesome. Poor Lolabean. I wish she could have bonded and kept a mom of her own. Maybe one of the lower ranking moms will foster her soon.

    You guys are so great, even though you are short of numbers you have kept up and integrated these little monkeys giving them their best life. For me my favourite part is when we see all of last years orphans getting up to monkey business as fully fledged members of the troop. The babies are cute, but that woeful call they have when searching for their mums just breaks my heart. I think you guys deserve the Oscar’s equivalent for the work you do, especially as you even find time to record for us despite being understaffed. Have a great week so sorry I missed you yesterday.

    Love watching these guys, and how smart they are. They are more accepting than humans, not too many humans would take someone else's young and love it they way these monkeys do, it's amazing, and I love how the little ones call and make little noises, feel bad for little Yonds, but it doesn't seem like she minds missing the leg, always looking forward to.the next episode

    That was soo cute and funny, when little Maribel didn't want to let go of Jessie's tummy, at 17:52, so she just hung her head backward, and tried to grab something to eat while clinging to new mom! 😂 She wasn't going to let go of her new mom for Nothing! 😍

    I treasure the work that you do and I am a member and do share the posts with others. I have some questions and comments and apologize for putting them here but it is the easiest way for me. (1). There are a couple of sites that feature baby monkeys dressed in children's clothing and appear trained to mimic human behavior. They always appear very nervous, focused on pleasing the humans, and never seen to relax and groom each other or play. Are these all still young and will they too tend to bite and be a problem as adults? I shudder to think that they are dumped in some zoo or just caged later in life. (2). Another site is in Cambodia I think. All the monkeys are wild but there are roads and paths with humans wandering around the forest grounds. People don't touch the monkeys, though they sometimes throw food. Many of the videos show the mothers giving birth, biting, injuring, killing or deserting their babies who die. Other females are not pictured fostering these orphans or keeping them after abducting them from the moms. No human steps in to rescue the wounded babies. Do monkeys foster in the wild? (3). A small part of my Amazon purchase goes to VMF. You recently mentioned adding businesses that do the same, but they were mostly in Europe. What other large corporations (that are not charities themselves) might find supporting the VMF good for their image, ie. pet food companies, Disney Corporation, Children's book publishers, 4-H clubs?? Charity Navigator is a site that lists and ranks all charities and might stimulate ideas. (4). Please know my comments are because I think so highly of the VMF and admire Dave, the staff, and the volunteers. I am 81 and handicapped while all of you are the ones donating sleepless nights, suffering heat and cold, having sore muscles, and broken hearts. I can only offer a few dollars, posts on the internet, and maybe an idea...such as...your store and merchandise doesn't address the diversity of your viewers. My grandchildren range from 4 to 25 years. I showed the younger ones the cups and t-shirts and most of them found them frightening. They felt, and I agree, that the faces look angry and ready to attack someone. The newer cup with the 4 babies demonstrates the difference. Also, I am guessing that the majority of buyers, especially for t-shirts, are female, and most females want pretty while advertising the VMF. I searched the internet and there are a few t-shirts of Vervets that are really attractive. I will send you a picture of one I bought that I think is the same as the picture that Dave has hanging behind his desk. I love it and am asked questions about Vervets when I wear it, which is the point. I also support endangered turtles. What sells a lot includes inexpensive gifts like pendants, earrings, small stuffed animals, small statues, puzzles, post cards, stationary, (use Vervet photos), and key chains. A small book that tells about Vervets (or the life of one like Floki) with pictures would be a good child's gift. There might be beginning artists interested in giving this a try for income. The company you use does several organizations and everything looks alike. (5).
    PLEASE know my comments are from the heart. Dave, I agree the goal is to release the youngsters into a troop with a foster mom. But I have really missed my favorite part of the weekly videos. Maybe it's because I spent years with the division of child and family services rescuing children and searching for loving foster care. What I most enjoyed seeing was when Dave went and gathered a small, frightened, lonely baby in his arms and with soft soothing words, gentle stroking, and wrapping in a blanket, this precious helpless being was calmed so that within a few weeks it was able to view the world as a safer place and be ready to accept a foster mom and troop. That is the first and vital step in reaching Dave's favorite goal - integration. Seeing the people who rescue and bring VMF the babies, watching the wonderful staff and veterinarians who work to heal their wounds, and knowing the number of supporters is slowly increasing helps me believe that mankind still has enough honorable humans that we may stop the destruction of our planet. My sincere thank you to everyone at VMF.

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, running a foundation is very diverse, marketing and products, online shops are a whole division on there own, in most cases we dont have the resources to find the required people nor the finances to pay designers, just having extra time to create merchandise is some time not achievable, most of the videos are created after hours - so hopefully one day we will be in a position to offer a whole array of products.
      unfortunately when it comes to animals, abuse is rife and its no different for primates unfortunately we live in a very sick society with people deriving pleasure out of suffering, and most of the videos of primates they have been setup for the reaction they get from the audience, primates wont generally take offspring from a different troop and if they did there would be no way of feeding it, in nature they would kill another troops offspring as its survival of the fittest.

    It's very disappointing that the past 2 weeks the releases into the troop were completely missed (not captured on video) this is one of the most important (favorite) parts of what you all do there that all viewers wait to see and no one captures it on video??? I am sure that you are short handed but at least prop a phone up to capture the release! You are able to film prior to the release and after the release how are you not filming the actual release itself?

    • @almondhastings
      @almondhastings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They don't always video the release because they are doing things like washing out and refilling the milk bottles, repairing the enclosures, giving medication, driving to the vets or picking up orphans. The monkeys come first, not the viewers sitting comfortable at home. I really appreciate that they are able to share as much as they do, especially after getting little sleep, working long hard hours, being nurses for the sick and injured.

    I would suggest to those people that want to get a monkey as a pet... Go work at one of the sanctuary foundations around the world, like VMF & see what kind of time, dedication, care, love & work that is involved in taking care of one of these babies. You can't have a job because monkeys are social beings and need to be around people or other monkeys. You can't leave them alone for 8-10 hours a day. Taking care of them is your new job. Then let's talk about the money it costs to maintain a monkey, food, vet expenses, toys, a travel bag, a very large cage, replacing the stuff they break & if it's going to be in your house you'll probably want to put a diaper on them for obvious reasons. So, diapers, wipes, creams for the diaper rash, bottles, formula & if your one of those people that dress them, then clothes. I'm sure I left something out but I think that's enough. Go volunteer!

  • @carolynmcpherson2667

    David! Good morning. You have pointed out several times that many of the best foster mums are middle-ranking in their troops. Do you think that being middle-ranking might give a potential mum additional incentive for working so patiently with the babies? What I'm trying to say is that--outside the intro cage--you have daily reminders of your "place" in the bigger troop. *In* the cage with the baby, you are Mum, and to that baby you are #!

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You may be correct, as a middle ranking female you would have an association with the alpha female and at times play babysitter to her of spring, so probably a more well balanced female

      We have had to rush things a bit this year so the orphans dont get as much time to acclimatise to the feeding cage which will be rectified in the next season
