Perfect timing!
I just came back to the hobby two weeks ago after a decade hiatus. Bought a used DR10, but wanted to build a mid motor car. Was in the process of figuring out what I needed, and was ready to pick up a B6 or a Builders Support Kit, but held off because I only could find the “D” versions with ball diffs, and I couldn’t find any gear diffs in stock. Glad I had some patience and waited!
Good on you joe. This is going to be the right move imo.
I picked mine up today. As for the toe block pills they are interchangeable and it comes with 20 different pills. It also gives you the ability for move the transmission to 1 of 4 heights and comes with stackable spacers to space the trans to where you want it. The trans is also a 3 gear trans with 2 idlers. And I also adapted at dr10 revolution design dr10 vts slipper clutch to it. Which did require some modification. The spring is much more hefty then the regular dr10 which wouldn’t fit in the end plate. So it was causing the spring to apply uneven pressure and causing the spur gear to warp. I took my dremel to the vts slipper end plate and removed material a little at a time til the spring could sit flush in the cup.
Man, I literally saw the announcement as I was cannibalizing my 22S Bullet to build a mid motor 5.0 based Bullet. Had I known this was coming, I would of waited and bought it instead.
Agree with everything you said. It's awesome that a manufacture is stepping up to make a "pro level" chassis from the factory.
Had an absolute blast at KOTS! Picked up the new body from shark bodies also! Can't wait to hit more races.
I spent a stack upgrading my Losi 22s and then this came out !
Thanks for the run down .
Right on!
I’ve been browsing the market to find which drag car to buy since I want to get into no prep but I think I may just wait for this thing to come out
Not a bad plan man. I like it.
Pre-ordered on AMAIN 10 minutes after your first vid! No time frame given however. I'm really hoping the 8s Mamba and new 1412 combo fit without much modification. Currently my Mamba 8s is sitting patiently in my new Breakout chassis,(bad timing on that purchase) just awaiting the motor's arrival here in Japan.
Being stationed in Japan, there is no NPRC groups on base, I hope to gather some interest and get something going on that front. There are 4 bases in the area and it would be pretty cool to have a team on each of them. My feelings is that it would be a welcome activity for youth and adults. Building a timing system would be the next step.
But anyway, if this is little interest, I will continue to run on my own and be ready to kick ass when I return home! Love the channel bro!
Mid may is the target date if all goes well. Welcome to the fam. We will get these things rocking.
This is awesome Chad, I mean the DR10 was kinda kick to the curb when Losi 22s and Traxxas drag slash came out. I still have my original DR10 kit built, i did very little upgrade on it such as the aluminum C arm mount to adjust Toe'in and all metal transmission gear...this new transmission comes with 4 gears as I was reading from the Key feature section
It really is impressive and changed my plans for the year.
For an all out drag build I see a few drawbacks:
Ultimately I want the floating/direct force body mounts. These may not be possible with a “kick up” which it looks like it has.
The other thing is the servo position limits battery position. Also, not running a forward servo (using the weight you HAVE to have) up front, will only make the car heavier.
Lots and lots of positives for sure.
Just keep in mind $370+125 for motor, $250 for ESC, $50 for wifi adapter, $25 for cap pack-all R1 prices because it’s what I know) plus even a CHEAP RadioLink radio/receiver and this thing is still over $900
And you still need a battery.
IDK i guess when you start doing the math on anything but an RTR the cost starts to get crazy
I've seen several bigger races with rules that include "body must be mounted to chassis"... are they trying to ban the hub mounted bodies?
@@mahamotitactical
Hmmmm I have not seen that
Great video Brother. Now I want one even more. Schultz said on another video he put different bearings in it and has been texting for a year. Keep up the great work.
We wear our sunglasses like nobody else does right here on TH-cam !!!
They definitely are making waves. To me they had the best roller already but this on checks all the boxes at an affordable price point.
Wicked video man haven't watched any In a while seen this and have watched and listened to so many going back the last month today it's got the bug back for me cheers
That’s great to hear man! The hobby needs everyone !
Looks good. A lot of DR10R in it with a B5M 4 gear transmission. Like the new rear sway bar and adjustable trans height. I saw a FB post that there will be a conversion for DR10R, won't hold my breath. But once the manual is out I'm going to go through it and start comparing to my B5M.
Yes sir. Come on up tomorrow.
@@Dorkyand40 I'm not going to make it for racing tomorrow. Caught a cold and have been coughing up a lung today.
Well take care man. I might not go either and work on the drag car
Asome You are the first the talk about the dr10m is the Gamechanger of the Year Its Asome...i think the Chassi self is Aluminium a Carbon Chassi is Option Part whst John Schultz say Asome Car...
havent seen any other picture then the carbon so hope not that would not be so good
John shultz said the lower plate and wheelie bar are made of g10 , the upper plate and rear shock tower are carbon. Check out Deserthobbies Kots coverage. They reveal the car at the beginning of the video and go over the specs and some planned upgrades
Ok. G10 makes sense.
@@schoen88ss i think this car is Gamechanger Al other Drag Cars a Do expensive i run a Undercover Iceman Chassis on a b6.2 ...and end of the day You can Win Whit a 400$ car or Whit a 2000$ Car thats i buy no more a Costem Car the dr10m is my next Goal whit a that Cool 😎 Updates in the future it will be the best drag Car ever when you have A good Compo Your Favorite Elektronic in the Car you winns a lot End of the Day Its a Bad Ass Drag Car
With the mid-motor, you really won't need weights that's the good thing about that set-up. I don't need any assistance with weights. Hey Chad I think the motor position is right.
Yeah see I still have the weight box on my breakout. I don’t have any other brass on the front but I still need the box and a few of their tungsten weights to get me to 40/60. Idk guess it’s just nice to have options
@@Dorkyand40 4sho. The best part. Especially when we share what works for us. Pass that on and let others experiment and share. 2 heads + is better than 1. Lol.
thanks Chad that was a great video ill probably going to pre-order one too. I been thinking on working on a mid motor car and this kit comes with everything not like the others were you need multiple kits to complete a good car. plus I'll be able to follow you if get one to see what kind of upgrades I'll be able to do. thanks again man
thanks oscar as always..im all over this one
@@Dorkyand40 yeap like I said I been thinking on building a mid motor but I didn't want to start all over again from scratch with this kit one will get everything except electronic off course. All it might need is minor adjustment and it should be a great car
Just saw this browsing amain..this is gonna be my new chassis I believe. Awesome over veiw my dude
thank you...pretty stoked on it man
Its been a few months since this video dropped. Would you still considerate now a worthy investment? I have 22s and think mod motor would probably be better. Do i dump more $ in it or just get the DR10M?
if you take nprc serious then go with a r1 Dc1 or gfrp apollo
The DR10 lead the way in the RTR and KIT drag car department. Now, they are at it again at AE. Losi did a good job on their release but i felt traxxas couldve jumped the gun and offered something like this since the DR10 and Losi already released and couldve beat them to the market with a true drag chassis. But they offered a high dollar body basically. Wasnt impressed with the slash at all. this is awesome that associated is offering this thing and the price is right. I already have a drk160 esc I bought last year but never put it in anything cause i wanted to build an actual drag chassis but everything was always sold out! So this is just awesome!
I’ll have my drk in mine as well. Hope it all works out my man
I’m curious as too why the new Drag Concepts “Maxim” is not getting any attention? I purchased one and it seems to be very similar to the DR10M in concept and looks. The “Maxim” has a big price tag, but has all high end components and is simple to adjust chassis geometry, along with light weight so additional weight can be added where it needs to be. My search on TH-cam is yielding zero promotions or builds of the new chassis.
Is it only slashed based? I need to look it up.
@@Dorkyand40 I believe it’s a ground up build, it comes with the DRC billet transmission, ball bearing diff, direct drive spur, CW shocks
Truth be told its a nice chassis and was developed with the maclan drk in mind we have had custom carbon chassis for a while now but a factory fresh kit now that something to be applauded for kinda like M for bmw and amg for mercedes benz i stand behind that im on the fast track cant wait to get it in my hands and funny thing is ive been this chassis and proline blues on a build that ready for kos lmfao smh
dang..nice man!!! gonna be sweet\
Not sure, but it sure looks nice and if Schultz was apart of the process it’s definitely going to be a competitor out the box once built! 💪🏾💯
We shall see lol
Might have to finally abandon my slash platform for this. Can't wait to get one for myself.
It’s going to be a really fun car!
Looks like the old b5 4 gear trans, and a b5 front end as well🤔 Backwards compatible? Asking for a friend.
Hoping so. I’ve been looking at the parts and not all are
Crossed reference. Seems like a lot of dr10m skus
Yup Ordered mine today. Mr. Chick said May. Ooohhhhh I can't wait.
Great video as always. I'm preordered too. Can't wait to put my hands on this car. Keep up the great videos
Thanks. More to come on this Baby
Chad hows it going Buddy, speaking of mid motor chassis, I'm in the process of building one. Do you know is there anything specific other than switching the ESC & Radio settings for reverse motor Direction? Trying to find some info a video about it to see with the end Bell timing where that should be if it works backwards now etc & if all the castle ESC settings will operate like normal? I was planning on starting with a DRK motor & mmx8s esc? Any help would huge. Thanks Bro
PS & I've searched FB groups on this subject I've looked for different videos all over TH-cam, I'm either searching the wrong thing or there's no info out there on reverse motor setup & tuning... 👍🏼
You’re on the right track. With my castle I reverse throttle on the esc and then just calibrate and it’s golden. Pretty sure same on the drk. End bell is honestly unicorn dust. If you buy a motor from say nick bell or rotor ron they set the timing on the motor to a spot that makes all phases of the motor to be as close as they can be. Do you can have a wide range. Typically between 30-35 degrees. If you buy an off the shelf motor I would just turn it to about 35. They are usually low so if you want to think of timing 35 is usually closer to 30 on an analyzer. All of my motors purchased from resllers like Ron or nick are usually set around 32-35. I think all of these stators and magnets all made in the same factory so that’s why they are all so close. It’s about optimizing performance and less about making power. Hope that all makes sense.
@@Dorkyand40Thanks so much for your help Brother, I knew if I reached out you would get me squared away without hesitation (hard to find that nowdays) & I learned a thing or 2 on end Bell timing from you, I really appreciate it Chad!!
@@Dorkyand40I wasn't sure if sensored 2 Pole vs 4 pole made a difference in reverse as far as does the castle timing still apply but I'd imagine like you said once the esc everything's switched over it probably doesn't make a difference what pole it is, although I do plan to try the castle Drag motor probably later this summer. again Thanks Buddy
I just installed my castle 1412 from the trinity and it calibrated right up to the radio correctly. Reverse usually goes with these mid motors having the transmission basically backwards.
@@Dorkyand40 Awesome, definitely glad to hear that. Thanks for your help!!
Hoping this makes TLR come out with a mid motor kit. Never been an associated fan but this is nice rig, screw all the aftermarket kits with no parts availability Apollo / 5 star etc.
Yeah man. I love my breakout but man the option parts and out of stock stuff. It adds up. Those other guys cars like you said are ridiculous prices. Cheaper to buy a backup car for parts.
Yep! Competition from another manufacturer(s) would be great!
TLR can't keep parts in stock for the kits they already make
so did you get it and what do you think?
I passed. But many seem to like it
@DORKY&40 Models and RC Thanks for thr reply, what did you go with?
DC1. !🔥
Do you think there will be an RTR version of this car?
I’m sure at some point. I think they probably assume people will swap from a dr10 ?? I could be wrong
It’s a b5m 4 gear based car. It’s not bad though. I think if you throw a 3 gear b5m trans in it it can be a very competitive car.
Seems to be working well as is with those test runs. 1.9 out of a basic kit car is amazing and a slap in the face to the double priced pro kits
@@Dorkyand40 absolutely, I just think the 3 gear is going to work best on the setup. I run a b5m 3 gear chandler precision bullet. Motor rotation on the 3 gear helps keep the front end down similar to a b6 based setup. The parts should simply bolt on to this chassis too.
It’s just great that a decent car will be available for the average guy and not blow the bank and have a real manual and not have to figure out crap. After kots it’s obvious the upper class is just too far gone for most of us now so having good grass roots cars will help us.
@@Dorkyand40 I agree but this car did show it could compete running faster than 2.0 on its 2nd pass. After looking the chassis looks to be g10 fiberglass and they do mention the height adjustment for the trans. Looking at the pics the height is adjustable independent from the c and d blocks. It looks like the blocks do have pills for toe and antisquat adjustment too.
No zero front bulk? 4 gear will lift the front end?
as i said in video still need to put something on the new front bumper area
I understood that it was b 5 not b6 based
The steering rack still looks like a slopfest, but other than that, looks really really good
He been testing this chassis for a year
I can tell. They brought the house on this one
