You know what movies are missing in today's world? Good dialogue. It's non-existent and it pisses me off. This humor is like gold. The more time goes by, the more valuable it gets.
God acting too. Most people dont notice cause it is a comedy, but these are two legendarie actors. You need to be real talented to make someone genuinely laugh, one of the hardests kind of actinf there is. True respect to these legends
I watch this part all the time on Netflix just to see Jim Carrey’s amazing acting in this scene. I came to TH-cam just to see if anybody had posted it. I also came to read the comment section to see if anybody was as moved as I am every time I watch this scene. I’ve watched the scene probably 50 times And it gets me every single time. This was before almost anybody knew that Jim Carrey was an incredible dramatic actor. And of course he went on to do so many amazing other dramatic characters and other dramatic movies but it’s amazing to see him do it in such a slap stick comedy like this. It really shows you , how versatile this actor is.
Mine is "Aspen it is..." as if they fckng have the money and have thought about it thoroughly 😂😂😂😂😂😂! This move is worth more than any precious medal 😂😂😂😂😂
This is why the first one worked and the second didn't. For a really goofy movie it has one short moment of true emotion. It is not played cheesy, or ironic. Just a real sad emotion from Lloyd.
Daniel Lundstrom the second didn’t work cause the plot!! It was quickly put together had they really put something together they could of made a good second movie!! Two hall of fame actors !!
Bro, it's legitimately an insult to compare this movie to the sequel. Dumb & Dumber is an all time classic comedy, the sequel is a pile of cinematic shit.
the funniest part of this movie is that harry and lloyd are simply facing some bad times while the 2 people following them think they are some professional hitmen after their money.
Such a unique move to have the most emotional moment pretty early in the movie and the rest of it pays off pretty humorously which is pretty refreshing but it’s nice to see that the movie wasn’t afraid to Show the more dramatic side of hair and Lloyd which made you a bit more sympathetic for them early on before the adventure begins. I feel like they were completely different characters in the second one!
It was said in a podcast recently and I was shocked in agreement… this moment is so key because it makes them human and we are committed to their journey from that point onwards.
Will never forget the first time I saw this movie. As a kid in the 90s, this shit had me rolling on the floor. Life goal is to eat that burger without a side of rat poison from Dante’s Inferno.
Leonard Harris Ironically I broke down bawling inconsolably like Lloyd after finishing the book allegiant (Veronica Roth) in which the divergent chronicles didn’t finish. The antagonist of the chronicles was Harry (Jeff Daniels) whom Lloyd seeks comfort from.
This scene is what made this movie. One brief real moment that people can feel in their core. Lloyd speaking to loneliness, despair, a pipe dream of something good that can solve their problems. Followed by 1.5 hours of ridiculousness that ensues lol
This is one of the things, I really like about this movie. It's not “just” a funny movie. It also contains some more serious themes, like for instance, different kinds of unhappiness.
2:13 "I'm sick and tired of having to eke my way through life." Damn... you're not gonna find a line this real and valuable in a movie very often nowadays, and it's a line from _Dumb and Dumber._
I think this film has a hidden moral that pertains to Harry and Lloyd's journey and what they experienced. Never let a girl come between your friendship or dreams.
according to the directors, they shot multiple takes of that scene and every single take Jim brought the same emotional rawness and tears. Really a gifted actor
Yeah, gives the character a lot more emotional depth in an otherwise silly comedy - and this scene is right after he insults and is robbed by an old lady.
When you realise it was during this scene that Harry planned to steal Mary to get revenge on Lloyd. He saw it as an opportunity to get one up on Lloyd for going behind his back with Freida Felcher.
"Im sick and tired of having to eke my way through life, im sick of being a nobody but most of all im sick tired of having nobody" man o man i know eventually jim would go on to do some drama and although this is a comedy he really delivered a taste of his dramatic capabilities here
When I first saw this I thought Lloyd just went home and made up the story about being robbed by the old lady for no reason and I thought it was hilarious.
This movie was a masterpiece

Legitimately a masterpiece lol Just watched it a few days ago again for the millionth time been watching it since I was a kid

The most emotional moment of this movie. Not bad for a wacky comedy.
This and when they go their separate ways.
it's a really nice contrast but still funny as hell
Agreed. This was actually a sad part. I felt Lloyd.

I totally agree! Some of the greatest dialogue in any comedy I've seen.

I thought crazy stupid love was a good comedy with good dialogue. Steve Carrell is really talented and they had a good cast for that movie
Great acting and dialogue is still out there, it hasn’t gone away. It’s just a bit harder to find nowadays. Honestly if you look you’ll find it :)
Even though this is a comedy movie, you gotta admit that Jim's acting in 2:07 gets you right in the heart.
Well said @cdfrost734 thats why I come here everytime I am sad. At least Lloyd has a friend like Harry even if nothing else works ;-)
You got that right
And you really feel it
