Hi Aaron, I think there may be a few jobs abroad still. The alternative here is to try and go down the maintenance/technician route who still have to maintain our Lighthouses. Cheers and stay safe.
Hi Peter I it's been a while since I've had chance to watch your videos but I'm binge watching now to catch up, I love the spooky story at the beginning of this video, very creepy, thank you for sharing another great film, it's good to know that someone is keeping the subject of lighthouses alive, keep up the great work mate 👍👍👍
I've heard of the tragic story of Grace Darling. So she is haunting the tower... blimey you must have nerves of steel, walking around there in the middle of the night in the dark with that going on... Notice how on all the old machines it says "made in Birmingham"/"made in Smethwick Birmingham". In the olden days, Birmingham was a center of manufacturing, anything made in Birmingham was good quality and lasted. Nowadays... well, Birmingham is on the list of the ten most dangerous cities in the UK, it's a filthy rathole, a giant slum, Smethwick is one of the particularly bad parts of Birmingham (one can smell it from miles away!) and if you travel into this rathole you are risking your life. Amazing video - beautiful lighthouses and magnificent lenses, it's criminal that this was all done away with or is at best a tourist attraction! All this modernization is not safe, the day will come and they will regret doing away with the lighthouses, just as they will regret doing away with our signal boxes on the railways! All this computerization has its flaws, when that comes crashing down everything will collapse and I dread the day this will happen!
Thank you very much. Birmingham used to make Lighthouse lenses/optics, machinery for the Lighthouse authorities of the World. Yes, some companies/organisations have a very loose idea when it comes to progress, they often mix it up with demolition. Stay safe.
Thank you Peter another great video these videos are so precious in remembering the history of these lovely lighthouse stations . Re Pendeen lighthouse i sent some emails off to trinity house complaining of the forthcoming removal of the lens , I finally got a rather snooty reply from the manager saying all catadioptric and dioptric lenses will be removed as part of the ever evolving history of the lighthouse and the mercury posed such a danger ( well nobody’s died from it yet during the last 100 years ) and trying to sell the wonders of an led flash .all cost cutting clap trap in my book and so sad not to have any left for history . I told him why doesn’t he just have done with it flatten them and stick a galvanised lamppost up , to which I had no reply . The lens will be removed in October this year , so I will head down in September to spend the last few nights watching this old beauty one last time it will be very sad . All the best as always to you
Thank you David for that and for trying. I suppose the lens will be preserved somewhere, in the past some went over cliffs! Yes it's a crying shame but Grade 2 listed doesn't seem to mean anything nowadays. Cheers and stay safe.
Thanks so much. These videos are a lighthouse enthusiast's dream. We get to see the insides of closed and remote places. I really appreciate the work you do to share with us. Ive been to quite a few Icelandic and Faroese ones too. Icelandic ones are generally square section, like little castles, bright orange.
No worries, appreciate your content. The Faroese ones are mostly smaller, more akin to navigation aids. The one at Akraberg, the most southerly point, is tied down with wires as well.
Thank You for your amazing work, i follow your channel years ago but i mever commented before. wish you all the best, greetings from Basel - Switzerland.
Spooky peter that will be a keeper from the past doing his duty still on watch forever and a day your vids will educate future humans way in to future cheers
Hi Mark, thanks for that, and yes I'm still hanging in there. Most days verbally abusing my computer that occasionally dumps me in the middle of trying to edit another lighthouse video. Ah modern technology Ha Ha. Take care and stay safe.
Honoured to have my snapshot of the old Coquet lens in your video! Oddly enough I visited Souter again a couple of months ago and the Coquet lens had gone - requisitioned by Trinity House apparently, I wonder what for... (I read Coquet is due for a refurb in 2025 - it would be the perfect fit)
Thank you for that. I did try and get confirmation from Souter that the lens was still on display, but no response, unless I was out when they may have returned a call. Really odd of Trinity to have taken the lens back, I too wonder where it is going? Thanks for taking such a great photo. Cheers and stay safe.
Hello Peter. Thank you so much for archiving the wonderfull world of lighthouses. I have one question with all that automation. What about cleaning all those lenses? Is that still a keepers task? All the best from Willem Huson.
Hello Willem, I'm really not sure if cleaning the lenses are on anybody's brief nowadays. As they are all automated, they may not see anybody (out to sea) for Months. Then it is only maintenance techies, no more Keepers to tender TLC to the Lighthouses. Thanks for your input, take care and stay safe.
Good morning Peter. Thank You.
Good morning Tommy, thank you and take care.
Strange optics in coquet? Cracking video. Love these videos. It's my dream job, alas, no manned lights now so I missed my opportunity.

Great accounts of Grace Darling's bedroom. Especially from such a reliable witness.
Thank you very much Liam. Grace was one extremely brave young Lady, one of a kind. Cheers and stay safe.

Love these videos. Did you ever have a plague of lighthouse keepers? 🤔
Mmm, I'm not sure how to answer that one Ha Ha. Glad you love my videos, thanks again and stay safe.
