    When I consumed high sugar foods and drinks, it reduced appetite suppression effects on Ozempic. I felt little to no appetite suppression for days. After I reduced sugary foods for 1-2 days, I felt strong appetite suppression again. I’m now careful with high sugar fruits, juices, carbs bc of it.
    And I avoid eating oily, fatty, fried, greasy, creamy buttery foods. Instant nausea all day and night.
    This video plus adjusting to my two tips + drinking water all day + walking more will help kick all of this in gear in the first 3 months.

    I immediately started losing weight on 2.5 MG on Zepbound, lost 12 pounds in first month. I am an experienced dieter. The main reason I lost was because it helped me cut down my food intake by 30% by reducing my appetite, I get full faster, reduced my desire for carbohydrates and allows me to just say no to that extra food. I work with it and don’t expect it to do the hardest dieting work for me.

    I have lost 102 pounds on Mounjaro. The reason you are not losing weight is that you are eating too many calories, or choosing the wrong foods. I eat meat and vegetables. That's it. No snacks or treats. I am not seriously exercising yet. I drink a lot of water, too. My A1c is now 5.1. You must be in a calorie deficit. You can do it!

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! Im hoping @patriciasullivan8337 will share this part of their experience. Since I’m a pharmacist and not a dietitian, I’m not an authority on this topic but I can share guidelines. The CDC recommends weight loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week. According to many experts this can often be achieved by reducing daily calories by approximately 500 per day, but this varies for each individual. An important part of our macronutrients is protein. If we don’t get enough while we are losing weight, we can lose muscle mass in addition to fat. The recommended minimum daily intake of protein is 0.8g per kg body weight to prevent deficiency. When we are reducing calories, we still need to maintain our protein needs, so the calorie reduction should ideally be from reduction of carbohydrates. Your doctor may be able to provide you a session with a registered dietitian that will be able to give you personalized information and macronutrient plan for weight loss. Best of luck to you!

    I have been on Ozempic since the end of December and have lost 15 lbs. Need to lose about 80 lbs. I am on 1mg presently and will be taking 2mg in a couple of weeks. I have had zero side effects. My A1c has dropped to 6.2 so it is definitely working on that. I am eating less and track my carbs. No more than 60 per day. I feel like a failure on this medicine. Appreciate this video knowing that it's just not me who is not losing weight!!! Thank you so much!!!!

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      You are actually a success! Here is why: your A1c has dropped to 6.2, you limit carbs to 60g per day (you’re amazing) and you already lost weight on the 1mg dose of Ozempic! The reality with these medications is that you can lose up to 15-20% of your starting weight. Losing even 5% of your body weight can give significant health benefits. You are headed in the right direction and will probably do even better when you start your 2mg dose. Best of luck to you!

      If you are only eating 60g carbs per day, you are effectively doing KETO, and you don't need the meds. KETO is why you are losing weight, and have dropped your A1C to a healthy level.

    Too much food/drink intake or the wrong type of food/drink should be the #1 listed reason why it's not working even at a normal dose. You can easily out-eat these medications! Aside from some serious metabolic conditions, it comes down to what you put in your mouth regardless of the drugs or dose. Even with the meds, to succeed, you MUST track your calorie intake, and should remove all junk and refined carbs from your diet. Just like gastric bypass surgery, you can fail these treatments due to bad choices and giving in to cravings. Treat these drugs as tool giving you a helping hand with making good decisions if you want to be successful. Best of luck out there.

While Mounjaro does show better weight loss results in studies vs Ozempic, you really took it to the next level. In fact, I don’t think I know anyone with better results than yours! It’s so great that your blood sugar is better controlled too (which is the most important part). It’s interesting that some people’s bodies do not do well on Ozempic and do fabulous on Mounjaro. I drank a ton of water on week one and lost 26lbs. The next two weeks I only lost 4lbs. Today I start week four. I feel like I could go a few days without eating since the food noise is gone. My issue has always been unhealthy overeating with sloth type activity.

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Congratulations on the weight loss! The extreme weight loss in week one, followed by much lower (more normal) weight loss in subsequent weeks is a phenomenon that has a possible explanation. You did mention that you drank a lot of water, but it still may be the water loss effect. Here is what happens: When we first start any diet and reduce calories, our body starts to use our glycogen stores for energy. Our body stores glycogen with water and as the glycogen stores start to become used up, water is released. This is why people often lose water weight first.
      Excellent that the food noise is gone. Keep in mind that it is important to consume adequate protein. Without intake of adequate protein for body functioning, the body may start to pull it from the muscle, and you could get muscle loss (vs fat loss). The RDA is 0.8g of protein per kg body weight. Just something to keep in mind while on this journey. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us and best of luck to you!

      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Your comment is important because it is similar to feedback I hear regularly. The downside to losing weight and then gaining it back is that metabolism can slow down after significant weight loss. This can make it harder to lose weight again and maintain weight loss. You are on the right track to try Zepbound. Don't be discouraged; just keep titrating up on the Zepbound. It will be challenging though because it is often unavailable. I am not sure if you have a support system. It will be well worth it to work with a weight loss program. In addition, on the Zepbound website, you can sign up for "Tips, Facts and Inspiration" because they want you to be successful. You can still lose that weight -it will be a bit more challenging now and will take longer. Hang in there!

    After bad side effects of metformin my Dr put me on
    Mounjaro 2.5 for three months with exercising & only lost 6 lbs. I increased to 5.0 for another 3 months and only lost 7 lbs. Very discouraged I couldn't imagine feeling any more full but went up to 7.5 for 2 months and my hair got thinner so I went down to 5.0 and skipped the doses a lot & started intermittent & prolonged fasting. I believe the fasting has been the key for me while using Mounjaro sparingly as a tool. Its been a year & 3 months and I've accepted that weight loss for me is SLOW but Im down 45lbs A1C is 5.6 and on my last box of 2.5 hopefully 🤞🏻

      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Congratulations on 45 pounds lost and A1c 5.6! Slow is perfectly fine! I hope many people read your comment. Sometimes it takes a long time to lose the weight. Unfortunately, alopecia is an uncommon side effect of Mounjaro and affects females more than males. It sounds like fasting and intermittent fasting were your success. Those that are able to maintain intermittent fasting are often successful with weight loss and it leads to less insulin resistance (according to a meta-analysis published in 2022) so you become healthier. If you can keep the weight off without using any medication and only fasting / intermittent fasting, then excellent for you! That is the best way to live! • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s too bad about the diarrhea. If I understand correctly, you skipped the 2.5mg dose and started at 5mg. I am assuming you never increased past 5mg and have been on that dose for 5 months. Hopefully your blood sugar is responding. If you haven’t already, please let your doctor know that the diarrhea is still happening. They may want to reduce you to the 2.5mg dose for a period of time. You shouldn’t have to deal with diarrhea for a few days every week. I am not sure what percent of your body weight the 11 pounds represents. If you have lost at least 5% of your body weight, then you may have significant health benefits from even that amount of weight loss -so congratulations! Make sure that you exercise to prevent muscle loss and to maintain that weight loss in case you end up needing to stop the Mounjaro due to the diarrhea. Best of luck to you!

      Unfortunately, you may not have been able to get to a dose high enough to be effective for you for weight loss. I do see several patients that experience nausea at the 1mg dose, but for most, the nausea is temporary and they are able to continue the titration. Probably you would have tolerated a 0.75mg dose (the dose they don’t make) but it may not have worked for weight loss. Since you couldn’t continue due to side effects and no weight loss, you may consider talking to your doctor about trying Zepbound. I’ve seen people have success at lower doses and insurance may cover it since you did already try Wegovy. Also, Zepbound has a slower titration (2.5, 5, 7.5 …). Best of luck to you!

    • @veena-usa

      Compounded tirzepatide should (in theory) be the same or very similar to the brand name Mounjaro or Zepbound because they will contain the same active ingredient. I’m only familiar with sterile compounding regulations in the U.S. so I can’t speak to one’s produced outside the U.S. When compounding pharmacies fill an order for a patient, it is not supposed to be for the exact same strength and dosage form that is commercially available. They are allowed to compound something with a similar strength /dose that the patient would not be able to get commercially. The device to inject will also be different. The compounded products are not FDA approved but should provide same or similar results.

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For Wegovy, Zepbound and other weekly GLP-1’s, you would typically titrate up to the next dose every 4 weeks. Doctors usually have their patients check in each month to see if they are tolerating it prior to advancing the dose. When side effects like nausea are continuing throughout the month, doctors typically pause the upward titration and keep the patient on the same dose for another 4 weeks. If you are already on a medication like Wegovy, just make sure to check in with your doctor each month during the titration so they know if you are ready to advance. Best of luck to you!

      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes! Since you have no negative side effects, move up to 5mg of tirzepatide. I’m not sure what you were at with semaglutide, but if it was less than max dose than it could have been why it didn’t work. For you, weight loss may be a slower process. All of us have unique genetics and some may get weight loss on a low dose but most need a middle or even high dose to see results. I love that you are doing all the right things! Now it’s time to continue your good lifestyle habits, and be patient as you titrate up the dose. At the 2.5mg dose, it’s just not high enough to work for most people. If you are not already doing resistance training, that will help prevent muscle loss when the weight starts coming off. Best of luck to you!

    I also have hypothyroidism and taking Wegovy does it affect me losing weight?

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have uncontrolled hypothyroidism, then losing weight will be a challenge. The reason I mentioned it in the video is just in case someone has undiagnosed or uncontrolled hypothyroidism. If you are taking medication to correct your hypothyroidism, and your TSH is in proper range, then you will be able to lose weight using Wegovy just as anyone else. You will always need to make sure your thyroid stays in proper range. It will be dangerous for your thyroid to be too high or too low and too low results in weight gain. By the way, the TSH number is inversely related to thyroid level (the lower the number, the higher the thyroid hormone level). Lastly, since Wegovy can slow stomach emptying, it has the ability to cause the concentration of levothyroxine to be slightly higher, but it is not usually significant.

      I was prescribed Metformin (Oral) 500MG and Ozemphic 0.25/0.5. I couldn’t decide so I took both of them home but I need to decide by this weekend, which one I will start taking. Any recommendations?

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on several factors. The vast majority of patients with Type 2 Diabetes start out with Metformin. However, Ozempic is now also considered an option for first line treatment. If you are not overweight and / or will have difficulty continuing Ozempic due to the price, then I would start with Metformin. You can always add Ozempic on top of Metformin after your body gets used to Metformin. This is a common combination. If you are significantly overweight in addition to Type 2 Diabetes and your insurance coverage allows Ozempic at a reasonable price that you can afford, then I would opt for Ozempic. Depending on your A1c, you may need to eventually be on both medications -but you should not start them simultaneously due to gastrointestinal upset during the titration period for both of these.

    I’m on Ozempic for 6 weeks now. I’m only at 0.5mg and haven’t lost weight. I’m concerned as I eat about 1500 cals a day and have been walking 30mins a day. Even without the drug, I should have lost some weight. It’s super frustrating and have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I feel hungry all the time, so I can’t cut my cals any lower… cravings are also still here. 😮‍💨 don’t know what to do as we do not have Mounjaro in my country. Hang in there! Many folks do not lose weight on 0.5mg Ozempic. Hopefully the cravings will soften when you titrate up. Its not fair to you to eat 1500 calories a day and also be starving all the time. However, this can happen sometimes after someone has lost weight and then gained it back. When we reduce calories, our metabolism can slow down. Unfortunately, if we gain the weight back, our metabolism doesn’t always bounce back and then losing the weight again can be much harder the second time. This was a phenomenon that was seen after filming the TV show “The Biggest Loser.” I am not sure if this is your story -I am just guessing.
      For anyone that is consuming a small number of calories per day, it is important to consume adequate protein of at least 0.8 grams per kg body weight per day. This can be hard to do unless we are tracking the protein. If we don’t consume enough protein, our body may take the protein it needs from our muscles, and we experience muscle loss. I just want to point this out in case it may apply to you. Push through this and get to the higher doses! I know you can do it because you are already calorie restricted and walking 30 minutes per day. Best of luck to you!

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is very frustrating and unfortunately a scenario that happens frequently. When we lose weight due to eating less calories, our body’s metabolism may slow down. Then, if we go back to eating the original amount of calories, not only does the weight go back on, but since metabolism is slower now, weight can go even higher than before. The great thing is that you are healthy and you exercise. I have a possible suggestion for you that is more affordable than Ozempic. It is an oral prescription medication called Qsymia. It is $98 per month without insurance (see their website). Your doctor will be able to tell you if you are a candidate for it. Knowing your history with Ozempic, it may take you a long time to gradually reach your target weight. Realistically, with Qsymia alone, you may be able to lose about 10% of your body weight. Since you are healthy and you exercise, you may be able to lose even more, but be patient and keep up that exercise! It is going to be a marathon, not a sprint -and it will be worth it. Best of luck to you!

    What about sublingual semaglutide drops? I'm on the 2nd month, started with 0.5, now at 1ml daily... am i still in introductory stage? Haven't lost a single pound

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately, at this time there are no published clinical trials using sublingual semaglutide so there isn’t an established starter dose or maintenance dose. Additionally, the ingredients added by the compounding pharmacy can differ and affect the percent of absorption. I am not sure which concentration of semaglutide you are using. Here is what I can tell you about compounded sublingual semaglutide. Several compounding pharmacies suggest using 0.3mg to 0.5mg as a starter dose and 1mg to 2mg as maintenance. Usually, sublingual dosing is once daily, but there are some exceptions. If you are on less than 1mg, then it is reasonable that the dose is not high enough for you to see weight loss. Something that could affect efficacy: its very important to leave the dose under the tongue for at least 90 seconds before swallowing. Some people hold it in place at least 2 minutes to be on the safe side. Doses that get swallowed without absorption through the blood vessels under the tongue, have only about a 1% rate of absorption. We know this from Rybelsus studies. After reaching the 1mg to 2mg dose and still no weight loss, it would be reasonable to talk to your doctor about switching to the once weekly injection. At least we do have concrete data with the injectable version. Best of luck to you!

      As for Victoza, 1.8mg is the daily dose for glucose control for Type 2 Diabetes, but it is a mediocre dose for weight loss. The Victoza pen cannot dial higher than 1.8mg, but the Saxenda pen (FDA approved for weight), can dial up to 3mg which is the daily dose for weight loss and weight management. However, even 3mg of Saxenda is less effective for most people vs Wegovy or Zepbound for weight loss.

    I took Tirzepatide 2.5mg for 7 weeks loss 10 lbs, I thought I was not losing at a good pace I was instructed to titrate up to 5mg on the 5th week but I remained on 2.5mg because the only side effect I experienced was constipation. So on the 8th week which was Thursday June 6th I decided to titrate up to the 5mg and why oh why did I do that? Friday evening June 7th I realize I had only taking in 712 calories but I wasn't hungry, and I said I better eat a few more calories so about 5:00pm I ate 155 more calories. Three hours later I got so so sick with upper stomach pain, and sulfur burps was coming every 2 minutes seems like, I was in so much pain I tried taking different things nothing worked a hour and a half passed I was still in so much pain, then I started having bad diarrhea and got so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out and I was babysitting my 7 month old great grandson. That was Friday, Saturday woke up still not feeling to myself so I only wanted to eat a very little that day which came to be about 447 calories, and that evening I still got sick again same pain and diarrhea. Today is Sunday June 9, and I'm so afraid to eat, it's 4:07pm and I have not eaten anything all day and not going too. I just now about 20 mins ago drank a good cup of coffee, I pray I don't get sick from that, tomorrow I may try to just do liquids or maybe a light soup, but I will not be taking my 9th injection this Thursday coming and if I start back I'm going back down to the 2.5 mg.

      Oh how awful! I have had a handful of patients experience similar. Some folks have very slow stomach emptying and the food just sits in the GI tract and doesn’t budge. Some patients describe “fermented burps” and others describe “sulfur” taste like yours. Hopefully you can get in touch with your doctor who may move you back down to 2.5mg dose. My patients tell me that very small portions (vs regular size meals) are tolerated better in the beginning. I hope you are feeling better today and especially I hope you can tolerate drinking water so you don’t get dehydrated. By the way, your 10 pound weight loss by 7 weeks is actually much better than you think. Some folks don’t lose any weight on the 2.5mg dose. Your body seems more sensitive to it. Thank you for sharing your experience because it could help others. I wish you a speedy recovery!

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depending on the type of hormone medication you are taking (and the health condition), it may impact your ability to lose weight or it may not. There are many factors involved and your doctor will be able to help determine if the hormone is making it more difficult. I am wondering if it is Wegovy that you have been taking for the past year at highest dose. If so, the good news is that switching to Zepbound may actually trigger better weight loss because it works through 2 different pathways in the body. If you are in the USA and you have tried Wegovy and its not working for you, your doctor can ask your insurance company to cover Zepbound (its called a prior authorization). Even if you and your doctor determine that your medication is making weight loss more challenging, you may still be able to lose some more weight, but it will probably take longer. If your insurance allows you to see a dietician, that may be helpful, just to make sure that part is optimized. Best of luck to you!

      @veena-usa  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First of all, congratulations on only 20g carbs per day and sugars in control! Assuming you are getting the 7 hours of sleep, not under daily stress and you are exercising, then you could consider asking your doctor to switch to Mounjaro. It controls glucose levels just as well as Ozempic and studies show better weight loss. I don't want you to have to share too much private info here, but take a look at the other medicines you take and talk to your doctor or pharmacist to determine if any of these have weight gain as a common side effect. Assuming you don't have an issue with another health condition or medicine causing the weight, then my best luck to you to fill your first Mounjaro prescription. It is hard to find, but looks like the right direction for you.

      Don’t be discouraged! Pause for a minute and congratulate yourself for going down 2 pant sizes! Additionally, not everyone has the determination to do time restricted eating and OMAD is the strictest version so I know you are determined. Here is what may be happening: you may be experiencing something called “Body Recomposition.” This is when you lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. This is a good thing and muscle is denser than fat and weighs more than fat. This causes your body to be thinner and more toned. This will only happen if you are exercising and apparently you are doing it well. That said, I am glad you will be meeting with your doctor. Hopefully you will be able to have a good discussion to go over everything (all of your health conditions, medications…). Yes, I think it will be appropriate to ask for Mounjaro (or Zepbound) if your weight fits the criteria. Best of luck to you!

      I want you to know that when it comes to Mounjaro, there is a smaller percentage of people that are “slow responders.” These are folks that had less than 5% weight loss after 12 weeks. A study showed most slow responders did achieve at least 5% weight loss by week 72. You may still achieve that weight loss! However, for unknown reasons, there are also a very small percentage of people who do not lose weight. If you are getting good sleep, exercising and don’t have other issues mentioned in the video, you can discuss with your doctor about continuing to the 72 weeks to see if you are a slow responder. Best of luck to you!

    Interesting watch. I was on ozympic for 2 months and lost roughly 3 kg. Switched to wegovy for 2 months now and absolutely no weight loss and I am hungry as I used to be. I do take venlafaxine could this somehow counter the effects of wygovy? Should I just give up?

    • @veena-usa
      @veena-usa  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Venlafaxine should not interfere with Wegovy and it is not a medication that is associated with weight gain. In fact, a small percentage of people actually lose some weight from venlafaxine so it’s unlikely to be interfering. If you were on Ozempic for only 2 months, I imagine that you probably only got to the 0.5mg dose. I am wondering if your doctor started the Wegovy at the next dose up (1mg) or did you start over with a starter dose again? Ozempic and Wegovy contain the identical ingredient: semaglutide.
      One possible reason for a stall in weight loss is the dose being too low. Since you are starting to feel hungry again since you switched over to Wegovy, it sounds like you may have started the titration over again. Here is another possible reason, but less likely with the information you provided: when we start losing weight because we are consuming less calories, our body starts using stored glycogen. Glycogen is stored with water. The water gets released from the body as glycogen stores get utilized which can result in many pounds of water weight being lost within the first couple of weeks. Then, the weight loss stalls because it actually takes longer to gradually lose fat.
      Hopefully your doctor talked to you about getting the proper amount of protein and also about being active. If we don’t take in enough protein when we calorie restrict, the body may pull protein from your muscle (instead of fat). If the weight continues to stall and your appetite does not decrease, you can talk to your doctor about switching to tirzepatide (Zepbound / Mounjaro). It is associated with more weight loss vs semaglutide (Wegovy / Ozempic).
      Definitely don’t give up! Even if you end up losing only 5% of your body weight, you will experience clinically significant health benefits. Best of luck to you!

It is FDA approved for Type 2 Diabetes and it is similar to Trulicity. In fact, the data shows a small advantage with A1c control using Ozempic vs Trulicity. There is currently no back order on Ozempic and it is fully available in all strengths. You can call your doctor and ask to switch temporarily for a month or two until Trulicity is back in stock.
